On this date in Giants history — Dec. 27
2004: After the Cubs decline Moises Alou (.293, 39 HR, 106 RBI) a contract option, the Giants sign the free agent outfielder to a one-year deal with an option for a second year. It will be the second time the All-star will be managed by his dad Felipe (as he did playing with the Expos from 1992-’96).

ESPN Films debuted director Alex Gibney's documentary, "Catching Hell" this week. "Catching Hell" is about one of the most infamous scapegoats of all of sports, a young Cubs fan named Steve Bartman who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Related posts:

Forgiveness Please: The Alou-Bartman Story
Media outlets reported that Moises Alou forgave Steve Bartman for interfering in that fateful play during the 2003 NLCS. Of course, the Deuce was all over it like the best sports blogging team on the internet. We should just repeat that phrase in every post like a couple of insecure bloggers...but now things have changed...

The first full day of the winter meetings are over and the only interesting item is the fact the Mets are looking to bring a former player for the Mets to there coaching staff. Moises Alou. If you remember Alou the last time we saw him he was limping off the field sometime early May 2008. The Mets are interested in him being there first base coach. Of course as long as its not...

Moises Alou booked flight home after Steve Bartman snagged foul ball
One of the Cubs’ worst episodes — the eighth-inning collapse in Game 6 of the 2003 National League Championship Series against the Florida Marlins — is being relived in an ESPN documentary called ‘‘Catching Hell.’’ And a comment in the film from former Cubs outfielder Moises Alou might again spark talk of players conceding there’s a ‘‘curse.’’ The documentary...

Alou Out 4-6 Weeks
In general, the Mets weren't counting on 150 games from Moises Alou this year. But the news that a hernia will knock him out for four to six weeks could press Omar Minaya into action. Even before the injury they had been reportedly searching for a right-handed hitting outfielder. An...

Buckner and Bartman
As bad as it was that the Red Sox took so long to open their arms to Bill Buckner, it doesn't hold a candle to Moises Alou and his statements about the infamous Bartman play in the 2003 NLCS. If Alou's statements that the ball was uncatchable were truly honest, he would have said them much sooner.

Moises Alou says no to Mets
Moises Alou declined the Mets offer to be on their coaching staff in 2011, according to Andy Martino of the Daily News.
The buzz around the team had been that they would aim to announce the complete coaching staff by the end of this week, though I wouldn’t be surprised if that gets pushed back.
Earlier this week, SNY’s Kevin Burkhardt said on Mets Hot Stove that Alou was being...
