Morning Grind: Mets Will Regret Letting Nick Evans Slip Away
Given the financial situation the Mets are currently in, holding on to a guy like Nick Evans should have been a no-brainer. Not only would Evans have been a quality bat and add much-needed depth to a very thin, not-so-Amazin’ roster, but come at a relatively inexpensive price.
This 25-year old has been up and down from the minors so many times with the Mets that I don’t blame...

Moving forward with Nick Evans
It seems like a convenient time to write this article given Nick Evans’ heroic deeds last night, but I’ve actually been an Evans supporter for quite some time now. The only problem was that as recent as a few months ago, it didn’t seem like the Mets had any interest in keeping Nick Evans past 2011. He’s been waived more than once this season, and each time...

Assessing Nick Evans’ future with the Mets
As injuries continue to ravage the Mets, and with the team flailing as the season comes to a close, many players will get an opportunity to make their case for future inclusion with the Mets.
Enter Nick Evans.
Evans has really turned a corner late in the summer and is in the midst of an impressive streak. Evans is now batting .409 with one home run, six RBI’s and seven runs scored...

Pirates Sign 1B Nick Evans
The Pittsburgh Pirates have reportedly signed first baseman/corner outfielder Nick Evans to a minor league deal, which includes an invite to Spring Training.
Evans, who turns 26 in January, has played 159 games in four seasons at the major league level, all with the New York Mets. The righty was taken in the fifth round of the 2004 draft.
For a man of his stature (6’2″...

Nick Evans Making the Most of a Rare Opportunity
Nick Evans has spent most of his tenure with the New York Mets traveling back and forth between New York and Buffalo, but with injuries to Daniel Murphy and Ike Davis and the Mets looking to give Lucas Duda extended playing time in right field, Evans has finally been given a rare opportunity to prove his worth. And, the 25-year-old career minor leaguer, is taking full advantage...

Nick Evans Leaves Mets Behind (Finally)
The Mets have lost two players in the last few days who spent much of the season either with the Mets, or shuttling back and forth between Flushing and Buffalo. Jason Pridie signed with the Oakland A's after clearing waivers. Pridie chose to become a free agent, and wasn't unemployed for very long. Pridie played well defensively in both RF and CF; a much better outfielder...

Is Nick Evans the next Heath Bell?
Last Friday the Mets outrighted Jason Pridie and Nick Evans to Triple-A. They could have accepted the assignment or elected free agency. They both chose free agency.
A day later Pridie signed a minor league deal with the Oakland A’s. Pridie was just an OK player for the Mets, but he’s easily replaceable and won’t be missed too much.
Now it’s time to see where Evans ends...

Evans signs with Pirates
Photo by Michael Baron The Nick Evans torture treatment has finally come to an end, Evans probably should have been a regular on the bench for the last three seasons. Instead Evans was the first option to be sent down or placed on options. For whatever reason Nick was under appreciated in the Mets organization and was never given a fair chance. Pittsburgh is the perfect landing...

Nick Evans has declared free agency
According to Andy Martino of the Daily News, Nick Evans has declared free agency, and will seek out opportunities with another organization.
Earlier this week, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York said Evans had cleared waivers and was expected to become a free agent after being outrighted to the minors last week.
In 59 games with the Mets this past season, Evans hit .256 with four home runs...

Nick Evans signs with the Pirates
According to Andy Martino of the New York Daily News, the Pittsburgh Pirates have signed Nick Evans “to a minor league deal, with an invite to spring training.”
Nick Evans has been up and down between Triple-A Buffalo and the New York Mets more than any player I can think of in recent years, maybe even more Nelson Figueroa.
My take when it was reported that Evans declared free...

Has Nick Evans shown enough
Photo by Michael BaronHas Nick Evans shown enough to be kept, Evans is arbitration eligible and will tie up a spot on the 40 man roster. For several years Evans has looked more like a AAAA type player then someone you would want on your bench. But with Collins in his corner Evans has seen regular playing time since his August recall and he just might have shown enough to compete...

Post-Game – Mets 7, Marlins 4: Nick Evans: Hero
That ladies and gentleman is what a hero looks like.
Long flowing hair. Boyish good looks. The thoughtful stare of a man with a plan.
Do you feel safe? I know I do.
Tonight, Nick Evans’ plan was to get the Mets a win by any means necessary and gosh darnit he did. No amount of bullpen suckitude would get in his way.
Evans smacked run-scoring singles in the sixth, eighth and 12th...

Pirates sign Nick Evans to minor league deal
The Bucs have signed former New York Met Nick Evans to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training.
Evans, 25, is a right-handed first baseman/corner outfielder and hit .256/.305/.407 in 159 games over four years in New York. The Mets recently took him off their 40-man roster.
This is an interesting move and adds to an option for the Pirates at first base for 2012. Assuming...

Nick Evans Era Is Over
Nick Evans is gone. Off to Pittsburgh.
Evans was the type of player who always seemed always "just about ready" who always seemed like a go to option from the minors to fill in a hole in the majors.
The problem was there was always a player who seemed more attractive, more interesting than Evans. A player we wanted to see more of, when compared to Evans. So, constantly in his...

Nick Evans finally goes free; deserves a shot somewhere
Nick Evans never had a chance. Every time he gets a shot, the Mets sign Sheffield, Hairston, Harris, etc.
At first he looked like he would be a slap hitter but I think he has truly turned that around and will become an Aubrey Huff, Ty Wigginton type player who plays all corner positions and that is valuable if you can get it from one guy.
Speaking of Ty Wigginton…Mets need a second...
