The Colorado Rockies release Paul LoDuca

The Rockies have released 38-year old righty swinging catcher Paul LoDuca. LoDuca played in 14 games in AAA-ball this year and he was 10 of 43 (.233 avg, .594 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 1 homer and 7 RBIs. LoDuca got bumped after Paul Phillips accepted his minor league assignment as the Rockies like him more than LoDuca. This likely will end LoDuca’s hopes of making it back...

LoDuca: I am not a cheater

Paul Lo Duca, Washington Nationals' catcher and a character in the non-fiction essay the Mitchell Report, called into the Joe and Evan Show on WFAN 660 in New York this morning. The show hosts, who have had plenty of harsh words for Lo Duca, were extremely cordial but did an honorable job in asking Lo Duca several steroid related questions.

Lo Duca attracting interest from teams

TUCSON — Catcher Paul Lo Duca came to Rockies’ camp as an insurance policy. While he hasn’t hit much, he has impressed opposing scouts with his receiving skills and versatility. Seattle has watched Lo Duca this spring, and Detroit is another team that is considering adding a veteran backup to help catch its hard-throwing staff. I haven’t seen much from Lo Duca over...

If Posada is done for the year, Lo Duca to the Yankees?

The New York Yankees might need a catcher. The Washington Nationals have Paul Lo Duca, an overpaid, unnecessary, bump on a log who could/should be available for peanuts. Could there be something here?

Payton, Lo Duca willing to accept minor-league assignments if necessary

TUCSON — A month ago, outfielder Jay Payton and catcher Paul Lo Duca arrived in camp as insurance. That hasn’t changed, but they have turned heads with their solid play. Payton and Lo Duca both said they would be willing to go to Triple-A. They don’t have escape clauses in their contracts, so it’s basically accept the assignment or face retirement. However...

Why We Boo

Nomar Garciaparra's recent warm reception in Boston brought up the issue again, and Diamond Leung chided Dodger fans for it: Why do Dodger fans boo former Dodgers? I'm not talking about obvious examples, like if Andruw Jones were to squish out of the visitor's dugout, or every time Gary Sheffield and his collection of burnt bridges come back to Dodger Stadium. I'...

It's The Fifth Annual Hall of Hate Vote!

So it's the All-Star Break ... no baseball until Thursday (although, if you're a Met fan, you haven't really seen baseball since May, so what does it matter to you?) But that doesn't mean that baseball can't fill your lives. First, you had Monday night's glorified batting practice/swing destroyer known as the Home Run Derby. And then tonight, you have the...
