This is the fifth in a series of articles analyzing the needs of the Washington Redskins and how they should be addressed in the 2013 NFL Draft, which begins on Thursday. Previously published: Quarterbacks and Running Backs and Wide Receivers and Tight Ends and Right Tackle. We did not cover the rest of the offensive line because, while the Redskins may select someone...
While the Washington Redskins made next to no moves to bolster their roster with new talent on the open market, the club did a rock-solid job retaining its players over the last three weeks in 2013 NFL Free Agency. Let’s take a look at the Redskins’ updated team needs heading into the 2013 NFL Draft (in no particular order). Photo Credit: Redskins.com 1. Defensive Back...

IT WAS OVER WHEN... Trailing 21-18 with just over three minutes left in regulation, Cowboys QB Tony Romo dropped back to pass on first and ten from his own 29-yard line. ILB Perry Riley came flying down the middle on a blitz and Romo, who clearly did not expect to see Riley in his face, tossed the ball into the left flat, trying to hit TB DeMarco Murray...
The NFL said Monday that a 30-yard touchdown run by Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams against the Washington Redskins should not have counted because of an inadvertent whistle.
The league said that the Panthers should have instead been offered the ball at the 17-yard line - at the point where line judge Thomas Symonette blew his whistle because he mistakenly thought...
The referee for Carolina's 21-13 victory over Washington says there was an inadvertent whistle by the line judge on the first-quarter play when Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams scored on a 30-yard run.
According to a pool report, referee Carl Cheffers says the touchdown stood Sunday after the officials discussed the play because, ''We just felt when the whistle...

The Washington Redskins ruled safety Brandon Meriweather and wide receiver Pierre Garcon out of Sundays game against the Carolina Panthers.
Meriweather has not played all season because of a knee injury. He practiced this week, and the Redskins hope he plays after their bye week.
Linebacker Perry Riley is listed as questionable because of a hamstring injury. Shanahan said it...
Washington Redskins receiver Pierre Garcon and safety Brandon Meriweather have been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers, while linebacker Perry Riley is questionable with a hamstring injury.
Neither Garcon nor Meriweather had been expected to play. Garcon hasn't practiced all week because of a torn toe ligament in his right foot that has caused him...

Wide receiver Pierre Garcon (foot) was officially ruled out for the Washington Redskins' home game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, and linebacker Perry Riley is questionable with a hamstring injury. Riley will be a game-time decision after getting in limited work Friday. "With those hamstrings, you don't know for sure," head coach Mike Shanahan said...
In a battle of Heisman-trophy winning quarterbacks, the home team prevailed Sunday as the St. Louis Rams escaped with a 31-28 win over the visiting Washington Redskins.
When it came to clutch plays, Washington rookie phenom Robert Griffin III showed poise and grit, even jawing with opposing defenders. However, Sam Bradford also had much to prove from his Oklahoma days, and the...
The great thing about the NFL is that there are so many positions that every year, there is almost always at least one player who has a breakout year on every team, no matter how good or bad the team is. This is one part in a 32 part segment detailing one potential breakout player for the 2012 NFL season on each NFL team. For the Washington Redskins, that player is middle linebacker...
6 Potential Breakout Players
With the Redskins training camp coming up on July 26th, the question some fans have been asking is “who is poised to have a breakout season this year?”
So I asked myself the same question and came up with 6 players to have a breakout year.
1. Ryan Kerrigan
To me Kerrigan has it all…size, speed, the ability to shed blocks and be a great...
The Rams have signed free agent outside linebacker Rocky McIntosh. It’s June so there are not a lot of impact signings, if any, but this move might have any impact for the Rams. McIntosh was only still available on the market this long because he struggled in Washington’s 3-4 over the last 2 seasons, losing his starting job to Perry Riley in the middle of last season. However...
The Rams agreed to a one-year deal with outside linebacker Rocky McIntosh, who participated in the team's minicamp on a tryout basis after six seasons with the Redskins. McIntosh, a second-round pick in 2006, was benched last season in favor of Perry Riley and drew little interest as an unrestricted free agent. He took free-agent visits to Miami (April 1) and Minnesota (May...
The Washington Redskins have signed free agent linebacker Jonathan Goff, who played three seasons with the New York Giants before missing last year with a knee injury.
Goff was a fifth-round selection by the Giants in 2008. He became a full-time starter in 2010, but he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee shortly before the season opener a year ago and was placed...

With its second pick in the fourth Washington has selected Texas linebacker Keenan Robinson.
The Redskins are set for starting linebackers with three-time Pro Bowl pick London Fletcher, third-year man Perry Riley inside, two-time Pro Bowl pick Brian Orakpo and 2011 rookie standout Ryan Kerrigan outside in coordinator Jim Haslett's 3-4 scheme.
However, Fletcher turns 37 next...

The Washington Redskins have inked free agent linebacker Bryan Kehl to a one-year deal, according to Mike Jones of the Washington Post. Kehl played outside linebacker earlier in his career in stints with the St. Louis Rams and New York Giants, but is expected to move to inside linebacker to back up starters London Fletcher and Perry Riley.
Originally chosen in the fourth round...
The Washington Redskins signed free-agent linebacker Bryan Kehl to a contract.
Terms were not disclosed.
After being drafted by the New York Giants, Kehl has played the last two seasons with the St. Louis Rams - primarily as a special teams player.
Kehl would join inside linebackers London Fletcher, Perry Riley and Lorenzo Alexander on the Redskins' roster.
Washington Redskins linebacker Lorenzo Alexander has been nothing short of a solid player when he has stepped foot on the field. Primarly a special teams force as a backup outside linebacker, the Redskins have decided to move him as a primary backup to inside linebackers Londer Fletcher and Perry Riley.
Honestly, the move makes sense. The 6-foot-1, 275 lb. beast is meant to play...
(Photo by Patrick Smith/Getty Images)After a disappointing 2011 season, the Redskins look to fix their weaknesses in the upcoming 2012 NFL Draft. Along with the team at NFLdraftinsiders.net, I will be analyzing this year's 2012 NFL draft. At the beginning of this week, I looked at the salaries of the Redskins offensive players and went in-depth to look at some potential candidates for release. This takes a similar look at the defensive side of the ball.Defensive Front Seven (unrestricted free agency year): NT Barry Cofield (2017), DT Stephen Bowen (2016), DT Jarvis Jenkins (2015), NT Chris Neild (2015), LB Ryan...

Celebrate that TD, Chad!
The game may have been “meaningless,” but it sure was nice to end the season with a win. Actually, 4 wins.
Stud of the week: other guys posted bigger numbers, but I have to give it to pint-sized Chad Hall, who scored his first NFL TD on Sunday, and did it by plowing over Perry Riley and DeAngelo Hall, who...
