Budaj in Top Form; Avs Beat Stars 4-1
There are few back-up goaltenders in the NHL better than Peter Budaj, and he proved it once again in a 39-save effort against the Dallas Stars Saturday night. He made save after impressive save using the strengths he has always had: athleticism and positioning. It’s incredible that in one season, the Colorado Avalanche have gone [...]

Top 5 saves: Budaj nips goal in the bud
He doesn't get a lot of game action, but Montreal backup Peter Budaj was ready and able on a Pittsburgh shot that was headed for the top corner.

Canadiens - Predators: Peter Budaj Leads Habs to Second Straight OT win
With the Nashville Predators playing their 1000th game in the NHL, the Montreal Canadiens played the role of party spoilers tonight with a 2-1 overtime victory.
The Canadiens came out of the gates and controlled the played, using their speed to draw penalties. But they fell into their usual trap of indiscipline, taking way too many penalties and handing the momentum to the Preds...

10 Things Avs Fans Should Give Thanks For!
10. Youth – A young talented team that doesn’t know when or how to quit! Thanks
9. Peter Budaj – I’ll be the first to admit when Anderson went down I thought things would go south. As a matter of fact I’m shocked Budaj is still an Av. However we have to give a thanks to Budaj for protecting our net during Anderson’s injury. An excellent back-up...

Avs Sign Budaj, Koci
According to the club’s official website, the Colorado Avalanche have announced that they have re-signed Peter Budaj and David Koci to one-year deals.

I have always felt that Budaj would be a competent back-up for the Avs, and I’m not too surprised they re-signed him for another year. He seems to be one of [...]

Aaron Musick: Avs down Coyotes as Budaj earns 100th victory
What the helium balloons just happened?
The Avs, despite having a 2-0 lead at one point, had no business being in this game. From the first period on, they were outshot 31-9, outscored 3-2 and overall dominated.
Peter Budaj won his 100th career game, the first Slovakian native to do so, Ryan O'Reilly allowed his inner C to shine through with two points and the lone goal...

YES INDEEDILY DO!
Avalanche goalie's Ned Flanders mask
Peter Budaj may be a back-up goalie for the Canadiens, but his goalie mask is second to none. Ned Flanders from The Simpsons? Check. The Three Storms wizards from Big Trouble in Little China? Check. Lightning bolts? Check. What else could you possibly ask for? This beauty was featured by In Goal Magazine (with a hat tip to The Big Lead) and is designed by Dave Gunnarson, who also...

Budaj in net against Blues
ST. LOUIS- Yes it’s true. Peter Budaj will get the start in net tomorrow against the Blues. After yesterday’s 48 save workload, Craig Anderson might have been a bit tired.
Also, Yelle and McLeod may play tomorrow. Questionable with leg injuries.

Budaj’s days with Avs appear over
Peter Budaj appears done with the Avalanche. At this stage, the Avs are prepared to move on from the goalie, who has been with the team since 2005. His contract is up, and there is no plan to re-sign him. Win or lose, Budaj was an accountable goalie who was/is a good person. His game [...]

Budaj In Net, O’Byrne To Return Vs Wild
O'BURNED! (AP Photo/J Pat Carter)
*First reported by Denver Post’s Adrian Dater*
Tuesday night against the Wild will see the return of Ryan O’Byrne to the Avalanche lineup. O’Byrne hasnt played since Wednesday February 23rd when, in the first period against Edmonton, he took a blade to the face, which wound up requiring 100 stitches. O’Byrne has been an...

Budaj in net against Wings
DETROIT — Peter Budaj gets the nod in goal for the Avs tonight against the Red Wings. Game time is 5:30 mountain.
Budaj gets his first start in Game 3 of the season. Last season, Budaj didn’t make his first start until Nov. 4, against Phoenix. He got two more appearances the rest of that month.
Budaj did not play against the Red Wings last season, but went 1-0 against...

Budaj Gets First Start Since January
With the success that Craig Anderson has had between the pipes for the Colorado Avalanche in 2009-10, it is very easy to forget back-up Peter Budaj. But in his first contest since January 8, the cool and confident Budaj played very well in net in the Avs victory Tuesday night over the St. Louis Blues.

Avs Aim for 1st Before Olympic Break
There’s nothing like playing the worst team in the league to bring your players out of a slump.
Despite my protests to let Peter Budaj play this game to give Craig Anderson a break, the Avs stayed with the starter, and he awarded them with another shutout. This marks his 6th shutout of the season and [...]

Final player grades – Peter Budaj: B+
The Denver Post, John Leyba
2009-10 season statistics
GP: 15. W: 5. L: 5. OTL: 2. Saves percentage: .917. Goals-against average: 2.64. Shutouts: 1.
It would have been easy to pout a little. It would have been easy to have a grumpy look on the face. It would have been easy for Peter Budaj to let the frustration of playing so little manifest itself outwardly this season.

Postgame Avs-Oilers: Varly lays an egg in prove-it-to-me game
Tonight’s goaltending performance by Semyon Varlamov reminded me a lot of Peter Budaj’s years with the Avalanche. In a game the team really needed to win, the goaltender – Budaj then, Varlamov tonight – couldn’t make a big save when it counted. As a result, the Avs came out of a game just like in so many with Budaj – “tough luck” losers. But a loser, regardless. ...

The Washington Capitals defeated the Montreal Canadiens 3-0 on Saturday afternoon, backed by a 30-save shutout by Tomas Vokoun. Budaj to start for Avs tonight
DALLAS – Peter Budaj will be between the pipes tonight against Dallas. Haven’t gotten any “reason” for that yet, but there isn’t much to speculate about. It’s the second of a back-to-back game nights, and Budaj has earned more playing time with the job he did while Anderson was out.
Some other media outlets have reported that Anderson will start...
