Basement to Bowl: ACC

In our final installment of the Basement to Bowl series, we examine the afterthoughts of the ACC from 2011. Boston College (4-8, 3-5 ACC) It's not exactly a good thing when you have to dismiss your all-time leading rusher heading into the summer. It's even worse when your offense was the least productive in the conference the season before, ranking last in both total...

What did the 2012 NFL draft tell us about ACC Myths?

The 2012 NFL draft is in the books. There were 31 ACC players picked. Over the last few years we’ve heard certain myths regarding offenses, general talent level and recruiting that this year’s NFL draft opened some eyes about. Consider Boise St. never recruits any of those elite classes, but they had 6 NFL players drafted not including QB Kellen Moore. Tells you what talent evaluation...

Jay Paterno re-hired as quarterbacks coach

News broke yesterday that Charlie Fisher has left his post as quarterbacks coach at Penn State. “It was career suicide,” he stated. “Seriously, you have one guy who could not hit water if he jumped off a boat, another guy who can’t read books – yet alone defenses – and the last guy audibles every play to be a fade pass to Moo Moo. Now how in the Hell am I supposed to...

Georgia Tech will probably fill its coaching vacancy this week, coach Paul Johnson said. The coach will replace co-offensive line coach Todd Spencer, who resigned Jan. 27 after violating NCAA rules banning text messages to prospects and their guardians or parents. Let the Maryland transfer tally begin

((ht: collegefootballtalk.com))Randy EdsallYeah, before you say it, we know. Maryland plays football in the ACC which is essentially like talking about Conference USA football. But this is somewhat significant. The tally for defections out of fairly new Maryland coach Randy Edsall's program now stands at 24 since the beginning of last year. 12 of whom bailed after this past season...

Bill O'Brien's quest for a ring will continue at Penn State

When Bill O'Brien was named the head coach of Penn State's football program in early January, he had said without hesitation that he would remain committed to his New England Patriots responsibilities until the end of the playoffs. As it turned out O'Brien stayed on the job in New England in to February with the Patriots reaching the Super Bowl. His decision to remain...

Stupid AD tricks

It’s not like we’re unaware of the questionable decision making at Maryland of late – passing on Mike Leach to hire Randy Edsall to replace Ralph Friedgen, watching the program decline precipitously in Edsall’s first year and hiring the baggage-encumbered, über recruiter Mike Locksley as the new offensive coordinator. Given what Locksley brings to the table, I guess a sort...

Bill O'Brien said he would work quickly to put together an assistant-coaching staff, and that appears to be the case. Here's what we have so far.    O'Brien has retained Larry Johnson Sr. and linebackers coach Ron Vanderlinden from the previous staff. Johnson said he will remain as defensive line coach. Charles London will replace Galen Hall as the running backs coach...

Maryland has hired former New Mexico coach Mike Locksley to be its offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Locksley was fired in September after two-plus tumultuous seasons with New Mexico, during which the Lobos went 2-26 and he was suspended for getting into a fight with an assistant. Maryland Athletics Hits A Rough Patch

This is a tough time to be a fan of the Terps.  Head football coach Randy Edsall, coming to the program off of a BCS bowl appearance last year at UConn, notched a win in his first game out of the gate, against Miami, and then watched his team lose 10 of the next 11, with the lone win coming against Towson.  The ripple effect of this past season is already being felt (no doubt due...
