RENYEL PINTO NEWS

Pinto’s hit-suppressing ways

Renyel Pinto has been a staple in the Marlins bullpen since coming over from the Chicago Cubs in 2006. In that time, he has not endeared himself to faithful Marlins fans due to his roller-coaster, up-and-down pitching performance. I’ve always shared this sentiment myself, as I could never stand Pinto’s inability to put pitches in [...]

Florida Marlins designate Renyel Pinto for assignment

According to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com, the Florida Marlins have designated left-handed pitcher Renyel Pinto. In Pinto’s place, the team has recalled right-handed pitcher Tim Wood from Triple-A New Orleans. Pinto posted a 2.70 ERA with 16 strikeouts and nine walks in 20 games this season. He pitched the ninth inning against the Texas Rangers tonight and gave up a home run to Josh Hamilton.

Sad Day for Pinto

The Marlins designated Renyel Pinto for assignment. Some team will pick him up since he still strikes out about a batter per inning. Maybe there’s a pitching coach who can get his walks under control. He does hold a 2.70 ERA this year and 3.62 for his career. I wonder if there’s something deeper (like personality issues) to the release. Even if he doesn’t play...

Florida Marlins: LHP Renyel Pinto designated for assignment

What a great time to be a Marlins fan. In a span of nine days, much ballyhooed prospect Mike Stanton arrived and much maligned reliever Renyel Pinto departed. Wednesday will go down as a loss in the standings, but for those who live and die with the Fish the final outcome was a victory. It might not be a stretch to say Pinto was one of the most dispised players in franchise history...

Bad Day for the Namesake

Renyel Pinto comes in to the Marlins/Nationals game to face Adam Dunn in a tie game in the bottom of the eighth. The bases were loaded with one out, and Pinto plunked Dunn. That drove in the fifth run of the game for the Nationals, and they lead 5-4 as Matt Capps comes on for the save in the ninth.

No lefties, no difference for Fish

With Andrew Miller officially to start the season in Triple-A, the Marlins will head into Opening Day without any left-handed starters in their rotation. The team still has two lefties in the pen in Dan Meyer and Renyel Pinto, but of course, those guys can’t pitch (ideally) until the sixth inning. Won’t the team be [...]

Florida Marlins: Starters as big a problem as relievers

The bullpen has been beaten up pretty good in the early going, and not just by opposing hitters. Any number of Marlins fans no doubt would love to love to personally deliver a pink slip to Jose Veras or Renyel Pinto. Give Pinto credit for two scoreless innings Tuesday. The criticism is warranted. The relief staff has allowed 29 hits and walked 18 in 30 innings with a 4.80 ERA...

Marlins may look to move some interesting pieces..

The core of this Marlins team has been together since 2006 and while they've put together a winning record in two of the four seasons, they still have not created any substantial attendance numbers. While there is hope with the new stadium, that doesn't financially help the organization now. It doesn't appear that they will have another fire sale, but several players...

Blogservations 06/26/09, Rays 7, Marlins 3

Late Blogservations today, I apologize. Let’s get right to this mess. The bullpen, oh the bullpen… In what was otherwise a tight matchup between two evenly matched starters, what broke the Marlins last night was the performance of their bullpen. Burke Badenhop allowed two hits after two fly ball outs, and Renyel Pinto began the trouble immediately [...]
