Carrie Muskat reports that the Cubs have shut Rich Harden down for the season.
Rich Harden and the Cubs have decided to shutdown the right-hander for the remainder of the year. He finishes 9-9 with a 4.09 ERA in 26 starts.
“It was a mutual decision,” said Harden,...

It turns out Rich Harden isn’t a vampire after all.
I was starting to wonder, after Lou Piniella announced that Harden would only be pitching night games from now on. I wanted to ask Lou if he had also begun hanging garlic from his office door, or whether he had noticed Harden...

Nick Piecoro predicts where the top free agents will sign. This is my favorite, on Rich Harden:
He’ll be a favorite among the cheeseheads. The Brewers have money to spend on pitching and have said they’re going to take some risks to improve the rotation.

Prime Harden
Last time out, Rich Harden was wild and got beat—badly. On Saturday afternoon, Harden worked five innings in Citi Field. The Mets scored twice, only one earned on a home run, and Harden struck out 10 in five innings. It was as good as it gets, or close to it, for Harden. The number...

Wild Harden
Bad night for Rich Harden against the Mets. How bad? Just about as wild as he can get. Using a two-foot wide zone, Harden had the poorest control of his career. Your typical box score will treat the swings at pitches out of the zone as strikes, so these numbers will look lower than...

Back in 2001, a number of us hung the nickname "The Prince of Darkness" on Fred McGriff, after the Cubs acquired him and he complained about all the day games. (Might have had a point, too -- in his only full season as a Cub, McGriff posted a .935 OPS in night games,...
