Parnell started strong but faded in the end.....
The Mets second best pitching prospect is trying to dispel the label of reliever. Robert Parnell has been projected as a top reliever but the pitching prospect has been starting since selected by the Mets in 2005. His first year wasn't very note worthy in 2006 but in 2007 he started 29 games going 8-8 with a 4.19 ERA between FSL and Binghamton. This year he started 24 games for...

Life in the Majors: Pink Backpacks and Speedos
Bobby Parnell arrived in the major leagues on September 1. When he walked in to the locker room for the first time, he was greeted by new teammate Joe Smith. The New York Mets reliever greeted Parnell with a housewarming gift: a bright pink, over-the-shoulder "Sleeping Beauty" backpack.

Friends and Foes
Crack. Click. Stop. Rewind. Play.
R.J. Swindle sat in a recliner in front of his parents television set, remote in hand, watching a videotape replay of his major league debut with the Philadelphia Phillies. The last time he'd seen it was in real time, on July 7, 2008.

Minaya lays the ground work for trades.........
In the Daily News, Minaya talks how he has laid the ground work for future deals...
"There's no doubt things were accomplished," Minaya said. "Where we are today compared to where we were on Monday is, I think, we were able to at least identify clubs that have needs that you have a match with the needs. You'll see follow-up conversations from here that will...

Time for Some Stovin'
I've sat down at my computer a couple of times in an attempt to get back into more frequent updates to the site. The hot stove season has always interested me in the past, but I have to admit that I'm just not as into it this season.I suspect part of the reason for this is that I am less ...

K-Rod might not be the answer...
I have been promoting the go get K-Rod, but I have noticed a couple of things during the playoffs. He is not as overpowering as we all thought, though he has saved more games than the whole Mets bullpen this year. The other problem is he will demand a high price tag because of his new saves record. The Mets have to be careful here and even though he is 26 he might have arm problems...

Mets Might Shut Down Maine!
Ailing right-hander John Maine might be shut down for the season if Jerry Manuel and the Mets don't like what they see from Maine's shoulder in a throwing session this week, Manuel told reporters today.
Maine, who has a bone spur in his shoulder, is coming off his worst start in almost a year Saturday night, when he gave up eight earned runs in 7 2/3 innings of an 8-3...

With Maine Down Mets May Go With Niese!
The Mets put sore-shouldered John Maine on the 15-day disabled list yesterday and are preparing to replace him in the rotation with highly regarded minor-leaguer Jon Niese, according to a person familiar with the club's thinking. The Mets will maneuver their rotation so that they don't need a fifth starter until Sept. 2 at Milwaukee. When they do, it will likely be Niese,...

40 man roster signed....
Mets have signed 13 players who were already on the 40 man roster but weren't arbitration eligible. Brian Stokes, Brandon Knight and Robinson Cancel are out of options and will have to pass through waivers if they don't make the team. Darren O'Day is a major league rule V player and will have to ...

Holliday shoppers market open, but that does not mean Mets will get him...
As I mentioned in a earlier post last week, the Rockies are looking to trade Matt Holliday. They are looking to get a pitching prospect that can develop in a number 2 starter.
That leaves Jon Niese and Robert Parnell as two candidates the Mets can use as chips to get involved in the talks for Holliday. The Mets do not want to depart with Niese, who the Mets have high hopes for...

Mets Notes: Collazo, Pedro, Parnell, Ramon Martinez
• Lefthander Willie Collazo also has been designated for assignment to make roster room.
• Pedro Martinez will spend the Milwaukee series in New York working out with his trainer Chris Correnti.
• Jerry Manuel said he'd try to find a spot to use Bobby Parnell in relief, but it will be hard for Parnell to work his way up the pecking order in the bullpen in the four...

White Sox are scouting Mets Pitchers...
In the Chicago Tribune, Mark Gonzalez writes that the White Sox have been looking to deal Javier Vazquez, Jermaine Dye, and possibly Bobby Jenks.Of Course the Mets could use all three as they are looking for a closer, a starter, and possibly a corner outfielder. But the Mets remain content to get their closer via free agency and have not shown any desire to get Dye.According to...

Mets will look for that closing arm...
Mike Pelfrey took matters into his own hands last night by pitching a complete game. The bullpen rested and watch the young marvel master his craft in front of 50,000 last night. But the Mets won't have starts like that every game. Billy Wagner has said that he will be back but it is going to take some time, probably 3 weeks. So they will need to close out games whether it comes...

Niese & Callups announced
Well there was some speculation about whether Jon Niese would start on Tues. Just Saturday Lo Hud Journal had an article quoting pitching coach Dan Warthen as saying that Niese was doubtful to start because he didn't like the match-ups. Well either that was a smoke screen, the Mets didn't have a better option or Warthen was over ruled because the Mets announced that Niese...
