Rock in no hard place with 49ers

The sudden death of his mother in 2006 at age 46 taught Rock Cartwright to seize the moment, and that’s what the versatile veteran is doing during his first training camp with the 49ers. Cartwright appears headed for a roster spot with his play on special teams and at running back, where his services might be needed more than originally expected.

Rock Cartwright getting new chance with 49ers

(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By JANIE McCAULEY AP Sports Writer Rock Cartwright never got to say a proper goodbye to his mother eight years ago. That was her nature, and...

2012 NFL Free Agency: Ranking The NFC West

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS   There were only a handful of things the Niners needed to improve upon from last season, and receivers was one of them.  Smith and the Niners deserve a lot of credit for making it as far as they did with only two solid receivers, but one has to wonder how much further they could have gone with one or two more.  Well, next season we'll know.  The Niners...

Rock Cartwright Signed, Pending Physical

The 49ers added a special teams ace to their roster today. A day after Blake Costanzo signed with the Bears (note the 49ers didn’t seem to want him back) the 49ers have added his replacement. Some may ask why sign Cartwright and not Costanzo, well the answer is Cartwright can actually contribute in the running game and not just special teams. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Cartwright...

Raiders break two NFL penalty records

The Oakland Raiders have broken the NFL records for most penalties and yards penalized in a season. A holding penalty on Rock Cartwright during the return of the second-half kickoff against San Diego on Sunday eclipsed the mark set by the 1998 Kansas City Chiefs, who had 158 penalties for 1,304 yards. The Raiders tied the record for the most penalties when Stanford Routt was called...

Darren McFadden Won’t Play Against Broncos

Oakland Raiders running back Darren McFadden has been officially ruled out for this Sunday’s game against the Broncos. Michael Bush will carry the load in McFadden’s absence.  I woudn’t even be surprised to see Rock Cartwright and Taiwan Jones get some carries.
