Annual Report Card: Jonathan Blum

Jonathon Blum blasted onto the scene in the 2010-2011 season, but showed signs of regression in his sophomore campaign. Still, expectations for the young American defensemen were high going into the 2012-2013 season. Roman Josi was touted to replace Suter on the top pairing, but could Blum fill Josi’s role on the second defensemen pairing?

Annual Report Card: Roman Josi

The 2011-12 season for Roman Josi was very promising. While plenty of fans were expecting plenty more from Jonathon Blum and Ryan Ellis as their development progressed, Josi was a second round pick that had trouble staying healthy in his time in Milwaukee. He was brought up to take the spot...
Josi wins silver and MVP honors, Smith takes home bronze…
As horrible as the 2013 campaign was for the Nashville Predators, since their season ended, things haven’t really been all that bad. On April 29, the Preds retained the fourth pick of the NHL Draft by way of the Colorado Avalanche winning the Draft Lottery, they locked up Patric Hornqvist for five more years and now they have a bronze medalist, a silver medalist and a tournament...

All three Nashville Predators who went to Scandinavia to play for their respective countries were rewarded with a medal Sunday afternoon. A Roman Josi led Switzerland team played an excellent tournament, but fell to one of the host countries, Sweden, 5-1 in the gold medal match.
Meanwhile, Predators forwards Craig Smith and Bobby Butler fell...
2012-13 Season Report Card: Defense
John Russell/Getty Images
One positive entering the offseason was the strong defense of the Nashville Predators, according to General Manager David Poile. However, I will to disagree. Injuries to Hal Gill and inconsistency from Ryan Ellis and Jon Blum put the Predators behind the eight ball this season on defense.
Let’s look at the stats.

Despite Nashville’s best efforts, DeKeyser decides on the Red Wings…
He was considered the best available collegiate free agent and he was being courted by nearly every team in the National Hockey League. Among the reported front runners were the St. Louis Blues, Edmonton Oilers, his hometown Detroit Red Wings, Anaheim Ducks and the Nashville Predators. He also met with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Philadelphia Flyers.

Predators' Roster = Garbage Eclair
If I know my readers, and I like to think that I do, you’re likely a little unsettled by the unabashedly positive title to this blog entry. Before you go jumping to conclusions that I’ve suffered some sort of head injury, found religion, or made some kind of consciousness transposition with Kris Martel, you should probably note the image...
Kostitsyn's bonehead move proves to be costly
The Nashville Predators return to the United States with nothing positive coming out of their Western Canadian road trip. They lost their third in-a-row to the Edmonton Oilers, 3-2 on St. Patrick's Day. “Instead of finding ways to win games, we are finding way to lose them. It isn’t good enough,” said goal scorer Roman Josi.
Nashville can’t seem to capitalize on their...

Roman Fashions A Career Night
When Ryan Suter left last summer to join the Minnesota Wild, he left huge shoes to fill.
On Monday night at Bridgestone Arena, Roman Josi tried them on.
One year to the day of Josi’s only career multi-point game, the second-year Swiss defenseman exploded for a career-best four points.
Josi racked up two goals and two assists, scoring the overtime winner in Nashville’s 5-4 win...

Josi nets winner for Preds in overtime
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Blood oozed down Predators captain Shea Weber's face after a high stick clipped him close to his nose, though officials didn't call a penalty.
So his teammates helped him take out his pain on the Dallas Stars.
Roman Josi scored his second goal 28 seconds into overtime and the Predators rallied from a 4-2 deficit to beat the Stars 5-4 Monday night...
State of the Predators’ Union at the Third-ish Mark

It’s February 25th, 19 games played…do you know where your Nashville Predators are?
In this wacky 48-game season, that’s a tricky question to answer for any team. When you look at the way the Predators’ results have taken shape, it becomes downright baffling.
By their own admission, and by the observation of even the slightly objective fan ...

Thoughts after sleeping on it… GAME 1 vs Columbus
So, here are some quick thoughts I have after getting some good shuteye after last night’s 3-2 shootout loss to the Blue Jackets.
As Dennis Green would say, Columbus “is who we thought they were, but we let them off the hook.” The Blue Jackets had a great mix of speed and determination in last night’s opener, showing of a Columbus team that seems (in my opinion) like an...
Three Minutes With: Roman Josi…
We spent some time with Nashville Predators defenseman Roman Josi at training camp this week. We asked him to spend three minutes with us while we picked his brain about what it was like to play in his hometown of Bern, Switzerland during the lockout, his excitement to be paired with Shea Weber and, of course, the upcoming season in general.

The Nashville Predators will have only one significant change in their roster on Sunday when they hit the ice, as expected, for the start of what will be an abbreviated training camp.
Assuming the leagues collective bargaining agreement is ratified in time, the departure of All-Star defenseman Ryan Suter via free agency to Minnesota remains the most glaring absence from the team...
