2012-13 Season Report Card: Defense
John Russell/Getty Images
One positive entering the offseason was the strong defense of the Nashville Predators, according to General Manager David Poile. However, I will to disagree. Injuries to Hal Gill and inconsistency from Ryan Ellis and Jon Blum put the Predators behind the eight ball this season on defense.
Let’s look at the stats.

After missing the last game against the Blue Jackets due to illness, Victor Bartley will return to the lineup at maybe the best time possible; before a home and home with the Western Conference's best team in the league Chicago Blackhawks.
With Bartley returning, the Predators no longer need the services of defenseman Ryan Ellis and have reassigned him to Milwaukee.

The Nashville Predators get the much anticipated return of Patric Hornqvist Monday night as he has been taken off injured reserve by the club. Hornqvist suffered an upper body injury March 8 against the Edmonton Oilers where he scored the game-winning goal.

The Nashville Predators have activated Patric Hornqvist off injured reserve after the forward missed eight games with an upper body injury.
Hornqvist has played only 14 games for Nashville this season because of injuries. He missed 10 games between Jan. 28 and Feb. 16 with a lower body injury, and he was injured March 9 when boarded by Oilers defenseman Theo Peckman.

Who's Hot, Who's Not: March 24
(Getty Images)
Over the past week, the Nashville Predators have been two-faced by playing different styles each game and even during a game. There have been players who are playing and not, which is the reason for the missed playing time with the club.
Surprisingly, goals allowed have been killer for the Predators, which would have never been thought possible under...

The first goal of the night was a quick wrist shot from Ryan Ellis, who found ...
Comments from a standing "O" by the cripple beside the couch in Preds 6-1 win
As you probably do not know, the reason for my lack of posting and in person presence around the Predators' rink this year is that I will be undergoing a full hip replacement this coming Thursday which will require a six week period of no driving or public appearances. Therefore, I am limited to comments from the couch for the time being. In spite of my infirmary, I was able to...
Predators see heavy hitting as camp hits day 4 + other thoughts
As training camp trudges on towards Saturday’s sold-out home opener against Columbus, the players have slowly seen pieces of their game become re-integrated into their normal routine. As today’s on-ice sessions progressed forward, the coaching staff tried to increase the level of contact to a game-ready state.

The Checklist for Ryan Ellis

When Ryan Ellis was drafted, the times were a bit different. In 2009, the Predators missed the playoffs, and saw their best season a few years earlier come at the hands of smaller, skilled players who passed well. In 2010, Nashville was ousted from...

Let’s start from the top and work ourselves down. Based on General Manager...
With hockey back, what does the Predators roster look like (for now)?
The Nashville Predators haven’t taken the ice since May 7, 2012. On July 4, the roster got a major face lift. And thanks to the lockout, most players in the AHL won’t have a true training camp in order to snag an NHL roster spot.
So what does the Preds roster look like as of this moment?
The goaltending is set in stone with back-to-back Vezina Trophy finalist Pekka Rinne starting...
