Ryan Garko Placed on Waivers
Sigh. This is the type of move that really annoys me. No, it’s not a team-killer, and no, it’s not real surprising after what we’ve all been hearing over the last two weeks (although I certainly did not expect them to just let him go) – but it just comes off as kind of, well, [...]

What does the aquisition of Ryan Garko bring to the Rangers?
Since early into this past off season the Rangers have been looking for first base help. In December the Rangers had all but acquired third baseman Mike Lowell in exchange for catcher prospect Max Ramirez. Once Lowell was examined by Rangers doctors it was realized that he needed thumb surgery and he was sent back to the [...]

Garko to the Mariners
The Seattle Mariners sign Ryan Garko to a $550,000 contract, with incentives that could take it over $1 million for 2010. FanGraphs pegs him as worth between $3 and $4 million. His power disappeared after the 2007 season, but he still does a decent job of getting on base. Looks like another [...]

Rangers claim of Garko is best case scenario
The Texas Rangers claimed infielder Ryan Garko off waivers from Seattle which hopefully puts an end to the six month long rumors of a trade for Mike Lowell.
The problem with a trade for Lowell is that Texas does not have the at-bats currently for a player of his talent and well let’s face it trading away Max Ramirez for an aging first basemen hardly seemed like a genius idea...

Morning Buzz: 4/2 (Dodgers, Brewers, Mets, Garko)
1. Blake DeWitt and Charlie Haeger won starting jobs for the Dodgers. Joe Torre faced a knuckleballer quite a few times but I don't think he's managed one too often.
2. Ryan Garko was claimed by the Rangers. He will pair with Chris Davis and become a pretty solid platoon.
3. Baseball Analysts previews the Brewers.
4. Joe Janish goes over some Mets stories. Notably...

Ryan Garko would be my pick...
If Adam Rubin's information is accurate and I have no reason to believe it's not, since he always appears to be spot on in my book, then the Mets are looking for a right handed platoon partner for Murphy at first base...I've felt that one of Omar's biggest failures since after the 2006 season is his inability to make in-season adjust specifically by making smaller...

ryangarko
Sabermetricians blew their load all over the place on Monday when the Mariners announced they had signed Ryan Garko.
The bulky, right-handed hitter will likely serve as part of a platoon at first base with the left-handed hitting Casey Kotchman.
