Theriot inks contract with Giants
The Giants increased their infield options Friday, signing free agent Ryan Theriot to a one-year, $1.25 million contract, according to a major-league source.
Brandon Crawford, projected to be the Giants' starting shortstop in 2012, batted only .204/.288/.296 in 220 plate appearances as a rookie last season. Theriot represents insurance not only for Crawford but for second baseman...

Braves not so interested in Theriot
Last week it was reported that the Mets were interested in Ryan Theriot, it makes sense for the team to bring in a middle infielder. One who could take over full time at 2B if Murphy is a bust at the position or play short for two weeks if Ruben Tejada goes on the DL. Of the group of free agent middle infielders Ryan Theriot is the most appealing compared to aging players like...

Comparing the contract numbers: Mark Tuiasosopo VS Ryan Theriot
The Mets have not yet addressed the needs of their bench as well as depth on the rest of their roster. Nobody expects the team to sign players beyond their means, but it is starting to become a question of whether Sandy Alderson cares about what he trots out on the field come opening day. Most Mets fans would agree that the basics of the team could be competitive; the lineup, projected...

Justin Christian Designated For Assignment
The Giants Designated Justin Christian for assignment today to make room on the 40 man roster for Guillermo Mota and Ryan Theriot, per Andrew Baggarly.
I had thought that Christian may have had the inside track to be the team’s 25th man due to the fact that he bats righty, and most of the team’s OF are either switch hitters or left handed hitters, but this move makes...

Maybe Ryan Theriot was right
With the Cubs continuing to negotiate the bounty the Red Sox will receive for Theo Esptein, I find myself watching the World Series and thinking that maybe Ryan Theriot was right this spring when he said that he was finally on the right side of the Cardinals/Cubs rivalry. While the Cubs are in the process of giving away prospects for a new team President (as well as their new GM...

New York Mets Interested In Ryan Theriot
I wish I had some more exciting or hard hitting news to discuss regarding the New York Mets, but this just isn’t that sort of off-season for them. I’d love to see some big time prospects brought into the fold in a blockbuster trade or two, but we’ll just have to wait a while longer. In the meantime, the New York Mets will do their best to compete on a budget...

Seven Teams May Want Ryan Theriot
Ryan Theriot never exactly captured the hearts and minds of St. Louis Cardinals fans during his one-year tenure with the 2011 World Champions, hitting .271 with bad defense as a second baseman forced to play shortstop.
But Theriot has apparently caught the attention of as many as seven Major League teams.
The Tampa Bay Rays have apparently become more interested of late...

Jon Heynan of CBS Sports is reporting that the Giants have signed former Cardinals shortstop Ryan Theriot.
The deal is reportedly for $1.25 million with some incentives that could push it to $2 million.
My initial reaction is that this isn't a bad deal, certainly doesn't break the bank. In addition it sets up the possibility of a shortstop platoon as Theriot right...

Ryan Theriot?
Ummmm…why?
Infielder Ryan Theriot might be a good fit for the Reds after the Cardinals declined to tender a 2012 contract offer Monday, making him a free agent.
Theriot, who hit .271 last season, is not great defensively – 17 errors in 91 games at shortstop. But he’s a utility guy who plays shortstop. That’s a stated need of the Reds.
Theriot has played mostly second...
