New York Mets Still In the Market For Outfield Depth
The New York Mets have been quiet in terms of actual moves, but that does not mean that they are not keeping a close eye on the market. According to Jerry Crasnick, the New York Mets are interested in adding a left-handed hitting outfielder. Crasnick lists Johnny Damon, Kosuke Fukudome, Rick Ankiel, Juan Pierre and Raul Ibanez as potential targets. As Dan Mennella points out the...

SCOTT HAIRSTON MUCH BETTER VALUE SIGNING OVER CODY ROSS
With the word that Cody Ross has signed with the Boston Red Sox with the Mets in contention for his services, the question of the day is whom would you rather have as your 4th outfielder, Cody Ross or Scott Hairston?
Ross put a .240/.325/.405/.730 line last season with the Giants in 461 plate appearances. Hairston, stepped into the batter’s box, a sporadic 145 times to fill a...

Why Did Front Office Give Up On F-Mart?
Anthony DiComo of Mets.com tackled a question on the recently waived Fernando Martinez in his mailbag feature today.
Why waste a roster spot for Scott Hairston and let go of Fernando Martinez? Give F-Mart all those at-bats and actually see what he has to offer the team. He still is very young.
– Lou G., Kenosha, Wis.
Effectively cutting Martinez was an extremely difficult decision...

Cody Ross would A Nice Addition
The Mets have been rumored to have interest in free agent outfielder Cody Ross. Cody would be a very nice addition to a weak hitting bench. He also has the ability to start if needed.
The Mets bench currently consists of Mike Nickeas, Ronny Cedeno, Scott Hairston and Justin Turner. Ross would instantly become the top bat off the bench and provides insurance if any of the potential...

Mets Interested in Cody Ross
The Mets have interest in free agent outfielder Cody Ross and are making a run at him says Jerry Crasnick of ESPN via twitter. Ross has 345 career games in centerfield and would be an offensive upgrade to former-teammate Andres Torres, who batted .221 in 2011.
Ross, like Scott Hairston, is a right-handed batter with some pop. The 31-year old New Mexico native hit .240/.325/.405...

eMailbag: Why sign Hairston and cut Martinez
Dan in Phoenix, AZ sent in the following e-mail:
“Why did the Mets re-sign Scott Hairston? Would it not have been better to let Fernando Martinez take the backup role and save the million dollars? I don’t understand this move.”
Martinez has been playing professional baseball for six years and has never played more than 90 games in a season because he just can’t stay healthy...

Who Is The Mets’ Best Offseason Acquisition?
No, there were no big, splashy signings this offseason, but we did manage to sign some useful players that could help the Mets be very competitive in 2012.
As I look over the list of new additions, none really jump out at me as far as who might have the biggest impact, but I do expect solid showings from a couple of the relievers we signed. Now that Sandy Alderson has said there...

Scott Hairston for Fernando Martinez? Former Top Prospect Released
Really??! Don’t expect Fernando Martinez to make it back to the Mets either. He may have arthritis and may never live up to the hype but waive him for Scott Freakin Hairston?
