Lake Stevens High School Wrestling Gets MTV Treatment
Who knew Chris Pratt from NBC's Parks and Recreation was from Lake Stevens? Scott Hatteberg Pratt is the executive producer of a documentary that will air on MTV on Wednesday night called "The Berserkers." The documentary follows Lake Stevens' HS wrestling squad in its 2010-11 championship season. I profess to know nothing about high school wrestling, but I'...

Memory Lane Monday: Scott Hatteberg
Scott Hatteberg was probably best known as Jason Varitek's backup in the late 1990's, but today he is known as the former Boston athlete being featured on "Memory Lane Monday". Hatteberg played for the Sox from 1995-01, batting .267 and hitting 34 home runs over that time frame. His best season in Boston came in 1998, when he sported a .276 average, clocked 12 home...

Rick Peterson to Star in “Moneyball” Movie
Jim Baumbach at Newsday’s The Final Score reports that Rick Peterson will play himself in the movie “Moneyball”. Apparently former big leaguer’s David Justice and Scott Hatteberg will also play themselves. Of course, and this is old news, Brad Pitt will play Oakland GM Billy Beane.
If you read the book both Art Howe and Omar [...]

Moneyballs Deep: The Last Baseball Blogger to Learn Sabermetrics, pt. 5
Chapters 7-8 (Giambi’s Hole, Scott Hatteberg, Pickin’ Machine)
There comes a day in every man’s life when he realizes how similar he may be to to former Boston Red Sox backup catcher Scott Hatteberg. For most men, it’s a day that never comes. For others, it’s a day that comes all too often. But with the exception of some pretty rare circumstances...

Where are they now- Scott Hatteberg
Scott Hatteberg is another native Oregonian who played for the Sox (Ellsbury, Lowrie, and Pesky are some of the others.) He went to high school in Yakima, WA, and college at Washington State University. He was picked by the Sox in 1991 and played with them from 1995 to 2001. One of his claims to fame is that he is the only player to hit into a triple play and then hit a grand slam...

On the Beat: Moneyball at the Movies by John Perrotto
Scott Hatteberg was like so many other people in baseball, as well as fans, when word started coming from Hollywood in 2008 that Moneyball was going to be turned into a movie.
"I really wondered how it was going to be done," Hatteberg said. "It was a great book, but the subject matter was very dense. I just didn't see how a screenplay could be adapted from the...

The New Moneyball
Those that read Moneyball remember it well. You had the case of Scott Hatteberg. Hatteberg moved from behind the dish to first base because he could no longer throw effectively. He could however draw walks and hit with moderate power. There were the collective drafts of Nick Swisher and Jeremy Brown. Swisher you have heard of. Brown you probably haven’t heard of.

Divide and Conquer, AL West: Losing Hope in Oakland by Joey Matschulat
On September 4, 2002, the Oakland Athletics crammed a season-high 55,000-plus fans into the then-named Network Associates Coliseum for what is often fondly remembered as the climactic epoch of Moneyball—the night that the Athletics frittered away an early 11-run lead at home against the lowly Royals, followed by a classic incredulity-fueled Billy Beane tantrum, followed by...

Ramp Champ #33: Scott Hatteberg
Scott Hatteberg is a catcher who played for Pawtucket from 1993-1996. He also played in ten games in 1999. Didn't he turn out to be a real dirtbag?Okay, here we go. In 1993, at age 23, Hatteberg batted a mere .189 through 18 games. He split time between double- and triple-A that year. He went 10-53... A bunch of singles and one home run. In 1994, Hatteberg once again split time between...

Your First Look at "Moneyball"
Time to come clean, troops...I only read books written by my friends and I haven't watched "Entertainment Tonight" since John Tesh was in the anchor chair. So, until Michael Lewis hits me up on Facebook or the "ET" producers honor the thousands of pro-Tesh emails I've written...I'm left with "reading" my books on the big screen and watching "the most watched entertainment newsmagazine...

The Red Sox have not developed a catcher who played a meaningful role on the major league team since Scott Hatteberg , a supplemental first-round pick in 1991. He hit the majors in 1995 and became the starter two years later.

Slate’s Weintraub Finally Makes The Terrell Owens/Scott Hatteberg Connection
I finally read Moneyball two months ago, which is about eight years later than I should’ve. The perspective that comes with all those years — most notably in the way that the 2002 June draft Lewis writes about didn’t exactly change the game — is presumably the sort of thing that your more seethingly anti-idea Buzz Bissinger types take some sort of satisfaction in. “See...

Brandon Allen Starting to Look Like the Real Deal
After two blasts during today’s game in Yankee Stadium Brandon Allen is cementing himself into that first base spot for the Oakland A’s.
Since Jason Giambi packed his bags and left for New York in 2002 the Oakland A’s have been searching for his replacement at first. Year after year the A’s failed to put a competent player at first. OK, Scott Hatteberg wasn’t that bad...
