Scott Spiezio in Rome

These shots of Scott Spiezio are courtesy Chip Jett (secondbass) from Rome two nights ago. I see that Spiez is still sporting the clit tickler and perhaps a bit of a chubby.

Fox Sports Midwest allows McLaughlin to return after DUI

Dan McLaughlin, the lead play by play announcer for the St Louis Cardinals on FOX Sports Midwest, will be returning to the broadcast booth after a DUI in September threw his future into chaos. The DUI was the second for McLaughlin in 13 months and follows in an unfortunate tradition of Cardinals players and staff drinking and driving. Former pitcher Josh Hancock was killed...

Interesting feature on Scott Spiezio's comeback

Scott Spiezio has been the punchline of a lot of jokes, many of them told by me. But I wish him well in his current endeavor, which is to overcome the drug and alcohol problems that derailed his career. The Los Angeles Times today ran a nice story detailing Spiezio's comeback, at age 36 with the Orange County Flyers of the independent Golden Baseball League.

Scott Spiezio? Who's He? Giants 3, Rangers 1

Well, that's over. Edgar Rentaria's three-run blast was, approximately, the last thing you expected to see. The Giants hit 162 home runs in the regular season, or an average of 27 per month (though the 39 they hit in September/October was perhaps a predictor). Naw. It's just a crazy game. So, congratulations, truly, to the San Francisco Giants, who in 2010 erased years of futility...

Ex-Angels hero Scott Spiezio hasn't taken a flyer on baseball

As the OC Flyers give him one last chance at the game, Spiezio knows his alcohol and drug problems have to stay in the past. As the OC Flyers give him one last chance at the game, Spiezio knows his alcohol and drug problems have to stay in the past.

Kennedy, Eckstein and Spezio

I like interleague play. It's cool going to new cities and playing against teams you don't face very often. I've never been to St. Louis or Cincinnati so I'm looking forward to checking out both stadiums. St. Louis has been a trip I've been looking forward to since the schedule came out. I know more guys on that team than any other team in baseball. Adam Kennedy...

Mariners have shown they are taking the long route

Great to be back in Seattle and looking forward to spring training after a nice couple of weeks off in South Africa and France. As usual, the Mariners timed all of their big moves and non-moves for the moment I left, giving colleague Larry Stone plenty to do. I'll schedule next year's vacation earlier, so that the team doesn't leave you hanging in suspense all winter...

Throwing Money Away

Anyone who has paid any attention to the Seattle Mariners over the past four years has seen a lot of money wasted on useless players. It’s money taken from the bank and dropped off in the sewer somewhere between First Avenue and Royal Brougham. Rich Aurilia, Scott Spiezio, Carl Everett, Jeff W...
