First cuts made, 14 reassigned to Hartford or Juniors

As expected, the Rangers made their first cuts after today’s scrimmage. The cuts were all players that did not partake in the intra-squad game. Generally speaking, the first round of cuts is usually CHL players bound for Juniors anyway, and AHL players that likely just didn’t make the cut during camp this year. Those that were reassigned to their respective Juniors teams: Forwards...

"Did the Rangers Just Sign Lundqvist's Heir Apparent?" Open Thread - 7/25/13

One concern many Rangers have had the last few season regarding organizational depth is the dearth of top level goaltending prospects. Henrik Lundqvist isn't getting any younger, so the process of grooming The King's heir apparent needs to start and needs to start now. While Cam Talbot, Scott Stajcer and Jason Missiaen have had their moments and 2013 6th round pick...

Thomas returned to AHL; Stajcer to ECHL

The Rangers returned Christian Thomas to the AHL today following practice. Returning Thomas was a paperwork thing, as Darroll Powe returned to practice, and was presumably taken off IR. In his one game –his NHL debut– Thomas played a little under 13 minutes, and finished with 2 shots and 3 hits. The Rangers also sent Scott Stajcer back to the ECHL. Tweet

Is it time for the Rangers to draft a goaltender?

The Rangers are blessed with the King but shouldn’t assume he’s around forever. The Rangers are in an enviable situation with Henrik Lundqvist manning their net at an age where he can continue playing at a high level for a long time behind what should be a contender for several seasons. The immediate future in net is bright, but those who think the club should sit back and...
