2012 NFL free agency rumors: players who could be released from AFC East
Brought to you by Fantasy Knuckleheads
Well that was a fun 2011 NFL season, wasn’t it? Now that we make a transition to the 2012 off-season it just makes sense to start looking at players who could be switching teams.
This is going to be my fourth installment of an eight part series that focuses on players that could find themselves being released from each division. I had...

Coples gets to 10 for Bills?
North Carolina pass rusher Quinton Coples looked like a man among boys at the Senior Bowl by most accounts. Many draft prognosticators have him off the board no later than the seventh pick (Jacksonville)… until now.
NFL.com draft analyst Chad Reuter has Coples making it all the way to the Bills with the 10th pick. Here’s what was written.
Pick No. 10Â QUINTON COPLESÂ DE...

Opening Bell: A dumb Kansas video-Shawne Merriman’s crappy contest-Country music sparks violence
Today is National Signing Day for College Football and frankly, I think it’s about as over-exaggerated as Super Bowl Media Day. So many of these kids are going to amount to squat, since it’s impossible to predict a high school kid’s progression to college ball but hey, to each his own. I know my partner in crime … Continue reading »

Fan Friday 1-13
Time for your weekly questions from AskChris@bills.nfl.net. Enjoy the holiday weekend Bills fans!
1 - Hi Chris,
Thanks so much for keeping us continuously updated. I have a question regarding Fitz: I still think he can be a top 10 QB — he reads things quickly, unlike some of our past QBs who perhaps had better physical attributes. But he has to be more consistent and cut down...

A.J. Smith’s five questionable moves as the Chargers’ GM
A.J. Smith is known as a high risk/high reward general manager, and one of these moves turned out to be a good thing for the future, but was a gamble at the time it happened. Â This is in no particular order in terms of where they rank. Â They are just the ones that came to my mind first.
1. Failing to re-sign Drew Brees: Brees suffered a torn labrum in 2005, and the Chargers chose...

Merriman update
Bills LB Shawne Merriman was seen heading into the team weight room earlier this week and even tweeted that he’s back to jogging after getting Achilles surgery. Head coach Chan Gailey tried to provide an update on the veteran linebacker’s rehab regimen.
“It really is just things that I’ve heard,” said Gailey in relation to Merriman’s rehab. ”...

5 reasons to hate the San Diego Chargers
5) San Diego rejects? This is more about the fact that I don't really hate San Diego that much. From 1985 to 1998, the Chargers and Bills never played each other. Pretty odd when you consider that both teams are in the same conference. Anyway, you have to put Shawne Merriman on the list. Even though I'm still of the mindset that Merriman was worth the gamble, it didn't...

The 2011 Buffalo Bills: What Could Have Been OR Why Chan Gailey Deserves Another Year
One more year, Chan. What if?It’s a question that’s probably not a healthy one to ask when thinking about the past. You can drive yourself insane thinking, “If I had just done this differently, everything would have been better!”Sadly, it’s hard to not to play that game. You’ll always wonder what could have been.Such is the case with the 2011 Buffalo...

Buffalo Wins answers Total Titans' questions about the Bills
Thanks to Joe Pinzone of Buffalo Wins for joining us for this week's question and answer exchange. Our questions and Joe's answers follow, after the jump.
Total Titans: After eight weeks, the Bills were the #2 seed in the AFC. Now, they're on the outside of the playoff picture and seem to be trending downward. What's behind the recent decline? Did the Bills just...

Fantasy Football Mid-Season Awards
By Adam McGill
As usual, the first half of the fantasy football season has been riddled with injuries and irony. Many players have exceeded expectations, but as always there are some players who have failed to live up to them.  Below is a list of awards as if the season were to end right now:
Off. MVP: RB Freddy Jackson, BUF – Jackson is currently third in the NFL with 803 rushing...

We’re Missing Carlos Rogers, But He Sure Isn’t Missing Us
During his time as a Redskin, Carlos Rogers had an up and down career to say the least.
He was drafted 9th overall out of Auburn in the 2005 NFL draft ahead of guys like DeMarcus Ware, Shawne Merriman, and Aaron Rogers, but he never really lived up to his potential.
There’s no question he had talent, and his size and physicality were attractive as well. There was one problem...

Philip Rivers Dragging Down Chargers
Philip Rivers' abysmal performance on Monday Night Football cost his team the win and gave the red hot Chiefs a share of the AFC West lead. Rivers threw two interceptions, now a league leading 11 interceptions, zero touchdowns, and one very costly fumble. With the Chargers in range for a game ending field goal, Rivers fumbled the snap from center Nick Hardwick that the Chiefs...

Dareus to start at nose tackle
A defensive line move that we anticipated is happening for the Bills coming out of the bye week.
Marcell Dareus is going to start at nose tackle. He had been lining up there in practice more this week. Alex Carrington will be stepping into Dareus’ spot at LDE.
Kelvin Sheppard is also starting at ILB next to Nick Barnett.
Spencer Johnson starts at OLB in place of Shawne Merriman.

Bills May Still Owe LB Shawne Merriman $3M In 2012 From Injury Exception Clause
Bills OLB Shawne Merriman was a gamble from the beginning and now heÂ’s lost for the season, and so is the $6.95 million heÂ’s been paid by the team. John Czarnecki of FOX Sports reports that Buffalo also may owe him $3 million next season depending on the legal interpretation of an injury exception clause. Merriman came to the Bills off an Achilles injury, but claims this is a new...

Fitzmagic has landed in Toronto to take on Redskins
What is worse than losing on Sunday? Waiting 2 weeks to redeem yourselves. As much as players must love the bye week, I hate it. You get into the swing of the season then on your favorite teams bye week you’re stuck watching some crappy game and wishing both teams would lose. Well good news is that Buffalo is back this Sunday and will take on the Washington Redskins at the...

Bills bits
Before I even contemplate the outcome of Sunday’s game vs the Redskins and give a careful, prediction-free preview, there’s some necessary business to take care of real quick.
This football season has been strange and I’ve used this bye week to sort through exactly what’s been going on, what it means and where the Bills are headed. The problem is, I’ve been talking about...
