Young Corps of Wide Receivers Look to Lead Florida

The Florida Gators enter the 2014 with a number of questions on the offensive side of the ball. After finishing with a disappointing 4-8 record last season, new offensive coordinator Kurt Roper will look to bring a more prolific offense to Florida this year.Florida lost two of it's top receivers following last season, as Solomon Patton and Trey Burton have graduated and moved...

Bucs agree to terms with 11 college free agents

Two days after the end of the NFL draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers agreed to terms with 11 college free agents Monday. The team also released tight end Steve Maneri, in addition to waiving cornerback Bobby Felder and tight end Josh Baker. The lone player with Florida ties in the Bucs' college free-agent crop is former Florida wide receiver Solomon Patton, who had a career-high...

Sophomore receivers adding depth

Quinton Dunbar and Solomon Patton provided most of the playmaking for the Gators at receiver last season, but there wasn’t much depth behind them. This spring showed that things will change during the 2014 season. Florida’s trio of sophomore receivers will all be heavily involved in Kurt Roper’s new offense.

Receiver Solomon Patton shines in rain during Gators' Pro Day

He could have been distracted by the rainy weather or wet footballs or slippery turf. Or bummed that more than a dozen family and friends came Monday for his Pro Day workout and planned a sunny cookout after he was done. None of those uncontrollable factors bothered Solomon Patton. He returned to UF on a mission Monday. "I've been waiting on this," he said. Patton...

Florida WR Solomon Patton returns home for Senior Bowl

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Before arriving in Charleston, S.C., earlier this month to play in the inaugural Medal of Honor Bowl, Solomon Patton told those closest to him that he was going to try to win the MVP award. Patton figured with a strong performance in the game, maybe Senior Bowl officials would be prompted to send him an invitation. That's the college all-star game Patton...

Slumping Gators face steep challenge against FSU

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- They walked out of the visitor's tunnel at Doak Campbell Stadium last November harboring thoughts of a potential appearance in the national title game. The Gators needed help, starting with a USC win over Notre Dame. They also had to beat the 10-1 Seminoles on the road. The Gators did their part with a 37-26 victory, capping an 11-1 regular season in head...

Florida Falls to Georgia Southern: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

For some reason, I don’t think Florida Gators head coach Will Muschamp feels too secure with his job right about now. For some reason, that vote of confidence the University of Florida’s athletic program gave him early last week has all but vanished and following the 26-20 loss to Georgia Southern at The Swamp on Saturday, things in Gainesville got a whole lot more difficult...

Too many obstacles leave Florida with disappointing loss

GAINESVILLE, Fla. The Gators made history Saturday. None they will want to remember though. The cold hard facts from Saturday's 26-20 loss to Georgia Southern read like this: -- The Gators lost to a Division I-AAFCS team for the first time -- they were 15-0 previously -- since the division formed in 1978; Georgia Southern defeated a Division IFBS program for the first time...

Georgia Southern stuns Florida 26-20 in Swamp

Kevin Ellison ran for two touchdowns, Jerick McKinnon had a huge score late and Georgia Southern stunned Florida 26-20 Saturday in what will go down as the worst loss in school history. No lower-division team had ever beaten the Gators, who won their previous seven games against Football Championship Subdivision teams by an average of 45 points. So this was a shocker, even though...

Patton wants revenge on Georgia

Saturday means more to Solomon Patton than most of the other players on the team. The Gators have plenty of motivation. They’ve lost two straight games to Georgia, and both teams remain in the SEC East race heading into Saturday. For Patton, the motivation is different. The Georgia game was when he broke his arm and saw his season end last fall.

Florida Gators Lose to Missouri; Have the Wheels Fallen Off?

In many sports, 4-3 isn’t an awful record; a win percentage like that may even get you into the playoffs. In college football, 4-3 is a disaster. With their latest loss—this time to the surging Missouri Tigers—the Florida Gators are 4-3 and in a position where all hope may seem lost. There’s still a chance for 10 wins (always a good thing), but the Gators would have to win...

Gators head into bye week with plethora of questions

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- This is the way it goes at a big-time college football program like Florida. The mood swings can fluctuate like a hormonal teenager. You lose a game, any game, and fans get upset for a day or two. You get back up, lose your starting quarterback and star defensive tackle, and then win three in a row. Suddenly, the season is as fresh as a box of roses. However,...

Video: Florida WR Solomon Patton Returns Kickoff 100 Yards Against Mizzou

Florida’s offense gained just 61 yards in the first half against Missouri. But if the Gators can get a few more special teams touchdowns, they might escape Columbia with an upset win. Senior wideout Solomon Patton returned the opening kickoff of the second half over 100 yards to bring the Gators to within three of the Tigers – 13-10. Patton wasn’t even touched.

Patton breaking out

The Florida offense has had its issues with getting into the end zone this year. The Gators have been okay moving the ball between the 20’s, but when it comes time to score points the proverbial wall seems to be laid somewhere between the20 and the goal line more often than not. One guy that has made an impact in the offense working to get over that hurdle is senior receiver Solomon Patton.

Florida football: Tyler Murphy continues to impress

Looking Back On Week 6 In The SEC

With week six in the distance, teams once again had to learn how to go on despite obstacles, how the least touted skill can prove beneficial and how sometimes credit should go to those names that might sometimes get lost in the shuffle. Now that the weekend is over and a new week is upon us, we take a look back at the SEC's "winners" from week six: Marshall Morgan...

Patton's patience paying off

There were multiple times in his career that Solomon Patton could have transferred. He wasn’t getting snaps early in his career and was only used in the offense on jet sweeps and screens. He rarely touched the ball, especially when he got down the field. But he didn’t want to leave Gainesville. Patton worked hard in the offseason and turned himself into a trusted member of the Florida offense.
