Postcard tour: Cleveland, from 'The Mistake' to the Jake
It doesn't have the retro charm of Camden Yards, the spectacular views of PNC Park or the iconic bay blasts of AT&T Park's McCovey Cove. But Progressive Field in Cleveland is a wonderful place to see a ballgame. Cleveland residents must be pretty proud of it, too, based on the number of postcards I've found when visiting the city.I've seen a number of games at...

Mets show support for Queens firehouse
On Friday, former Mets John Olerud, Edgardo Alfonzo, Robin Ventura, Steve Trachsel and Matt Franco visited the Queens firehouse that lost more men -- 19 -- than any other on Sept. 11, 2011. They were joined by current Mets relievers Bobby Parnell and Tim Byrdak, in order to show their support to those who continue to risk their lives for the safety of others.

Where Does Colby Lewis’ Non-K Game Rank?
Pitchers can succeed without striking batters out, but a failure to whiff shifts more of the burden to the defense. Based on what we know about pitchers and their controllable skills, limiting the number of balls in play increases the likelihood of a good outing. Strikeouts might not guarantee an out due to the dropped third strike rule, but they result in outs virtually 99 percent...

On Pitchers and Wins
Joe D. from Mets Merized Online recently wondered if Jon Niese could win 15 games this year. The simplest and most honest answer I can muster up is, “Who knows?” I don’t mean to be harsh on Joe D. (I’m a big fan of all the guys on Mets Merized), but this question really isn’t a good one.
I think Joe’s asking “Will Jon Niese hae a good season in 2011?” If that’s...

Cubs Finally Make A Free Agent Splash
After, his abrupt departure from the team, many fans thought they would never again hear his name associated with the Chicago Cubs. Despite the potential of him being a fan favorite, Jim Hendry felt is was best that organization moved on, into a different direction. Well, the time has come where the Cubs bring back a player, in which his career started in Chicago. Yep, that is right...

It Was Benny Years Ago Today
There are three postseason games scheduled this October 7. By definition, they are all lacking a certain something. What is it? Oh right — us.
Once upon a time the Mets played postseason games on October 7. Once upon three times, actually…or thrice upon a time. However you measure it, let us recall the three best October 7 games in Mets history (all tied for first):
October...

Quiet Deadline Day Expected?
Eleven hours remain until tonight's waiver trade deadline. A year ago today, Jim Thome, Jose Contreras, Ronnie Belliard, and Jon Garland were dealt. But two years ago it was pretty much just David Eckstein, and three years ago we only had deals for Steve Trachsel and Russell Branyan. So SI's Jon Heyman may be right in passing along the prediction from baseball executives...

Mets Twist The Knife In My Gut
I’m not gonna lie and say I saw the game, cause I didn’t. I knew they were up 1-0 before I went to work, then found out they lost 6-5. But that’s it, that they lost, but not how they had lost.
That I found out an hour later and it pissed me off. Then it made me wonder.
‘Was this the game that defines the season?’
Is this the loss that proves to Mets...

Don’t Wanna See These American Idiots
I’ve been dying to see the Mets play the Tigers in Flushing since a little before 8:00 PM on Saturday, October 14, 2006. Magglio Ordoñez had just hit a three-run homer to clinch a four-game sweep of the American League Championship Series in Detroit. We were minutes from commencing Game Three of the NLCS in St. Louis, Steve Trachsel vs. some pitcher who didn’t let down...

This Day In Red Sox History: May 6, 2002
RHP Pedro Martinez allowed just one run and recorded 17 strikeouts against the Tampa Bay Rays, but his effiort was not enough as RHP Steve Trachsel tossed a shutout. Tampa Bay beat the Red Sox ace, 1-0.

What To Do With John Maine - We've Seen This Before
The big question of the day: "What to do with John Maine." We all know the SS Maine has been sinking for the better part of two years, and looks beyond repair. This isn't the first time this has happened. The Mets, not too long ago, had another pitcher who never put up great numbers, but was a good pitcher. His apparent demise seemed inescapable in May 2001. The pitcher...

Trip To Lake Elsinore
by Ben Davey
With the San Diego Padres playing in a morning road game, and the Lake Elsinore Storm hosting a home night game, what better time to go take the drive up the I-15 to the gorgeous Diamond in Lake Elsinore. Well I will answer that by saying do not leave San Diego at 4:30 pm and expect to get there before 6:40. But traffic is beside the point.
There is just something...

When the competition is two foods and a fraud, Mets can race to the front with felines
We’re hearing all kinds of rumors – mostly from reading Metsblog– that the Mets are planning to add some kind of race to add to the in-game excitement.Sadly, our team no longer employs Steve Trachsel, because we could have enjoyed races between pitches, rather than between innings. Marathons, even. At least a 5K.Granted, a competition between costumed racers is not the most...

Oriole Invite 12 Non-Roster Players to Spring Training
Some thoughts on the 12 non-roster invitees:Scott Moore: I've been a fan of Moore's for awhile. Moore came over from the Cubs in the Steve Trachsel trade but due to various injuries (most recently his thumb) he only played in 82 games in 2008 and 32 games in 2009. I like giving a healthy Scott Moore a shot to play third for Baltimore in 2010 than signing Joe Crede or Miguel...

Cubs Bullpen Session
–I wonder what Mark McGwire didn’t like about Sammy Sosa?
According to former Cub Steve Trachsel, who served up McGwire’s record-setting 62nd home run in 1998, cheater Mac was never a fan of cheater Sammy.
–Lou Piniella, however, feels bad for McGwire saying:
“It was difficult doing what he did. It was probably something that needed to be [...]

Rob Dibble: "Mark McGwire is a cheat"
Plenty of people have lobbed criticism toward Mark McGwire in the past few days. But I'm not sure anyone's worked up quite as much indignation as our own Rob Dibble. His opening monologue during his daily Sirius XM show on Tuesday was straight fire, the sort of thing that would have Bob Carpenter scrambling under his desk and looking for cover. "This guy cheated every...

Garland makes a lot of sense...
I would love to get one of these guys who many have speculated about in trade rumors such as Zambrano, Arroyo and Harang but I just don't see it happening. Maybe I'm setting my expectations low so if they pull off a trade I'm pleasantly surprise and if they don't I'm not disappointed. If the Mets don't make a trade of the free agent market Jon Garland makes...

Ana Beatriz BarrosAna Beatriz Barros is a tremendously successful Brazilian model, which shouldn't be a surprise at all when you get a good look at that thigh and seductive puppy dog eyes.Anyway, I'm off to the bar, our Internet is Steve Trachsel delivering a pitch slow, and you get the point: She's super hot. a2a_linkname=document.title;a2a_linkurl=location.href;Get...

At Least the Mets Were Awake
If the Mets win in a forest and I don't hear the Giants fall, did it still happen?
Sure it did. But the Mets winning in a walkoff usually creates a great big resonant sound in my Sunday as long as I'm near a TV or a radio carrying the broadcast. And I was — I was inches from the clock radio whose alarm I presumably semi-consciously shut off prior to gametime and then...

Cubs 101 - Pt. 45 - The Abrupt Return to Mediocrity - nay, BAD!
For fans of most other franchises, a second place finish doesn't portend to much. But we're Cub fans, and even if there wasn't the Wild Card device, we'd be giddy with excitement. Compound that with only the third post-season appearance in nearly 55 years, and the truth is that we had very high hopes for the upcoming 1999 season.
Sammy Sosa had just completed a 66 homer...

Would Doug Davis make sense..
While most of the talk has been about finding a power bat, and in my opinion, rightfully so, an argument can be made for the team obtaining another starter.Unless another team is financially strapped and just needs to get rid of players with big contracts, I believe the Mets only have enough to make one significant move and that should be for a bat.If the team was uncertain about...
