Taylor Buchholz - A Man's Man Comes Clean About Depression

Buccholz, who has been off to an impressive start (1-1 3.12 ERA), experienced shoulder discomfort, and was disabled. It was not thought of to be anything major, but a month and a half later, there have been no sightings of the Mets righty reliever. Just recently...

Stress And Anxiety In Baseball
Baseball is a team sport. Between the foul lines, however, the outcome of the game is inextricably composed of multiple individual performances, and in today’s hyper-analytical and overly-critical society that places each individual performance under a microscope, stress amongst baseball players has — by all accounts — risen to never-before-seen levels.
For some players, that...

More on Buchholz and the Mets
Photo by Michael BaronI found it interesting that the Mets activated Taylor Buchholz from the 60 day disabled list. After losing almost the entire season to depression the team could have easily justified out-righting him and hoping to resign on a minor league deal or even moving on altogether. The 29 y/o right hander will cost the team under 1M to keep and maybe showing him the...

Has Taylor Buchholz been a good reliever?
Monday I made a big deal about Tim Byrdak and the difference in his effectiveness versus RHB and LHB. But the truth is that Byrdak does not have the biggest L/R platoon split among the team’s relievers. That distinction belongs to Taylor Buchholz, who has been murder against RHB and nearly as bad against LHB as Byrdak is versus RHB.
It’s hard to determine at this point if...
