Stress And Anxiety In Baseball
Baseball is a team sport. Between the foul lines, however, the outcome of the game is inextricably composed of multiple individual performances, and in today’s hyper-analytical and overly-critical society that places each individual performance under a microscope, stress amongst baseball players has — by all accounts — risen to never-before-seen levels.
For some players, that...

While exploring the market makes sense, all three of them could make the team if they decide to return. Reliever Taylor Buchholz cleared waivers and is expected to join Nick Evans...

Taylor Buchholz cleared waivers, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN.com (on Twitter). Though he still appears on the team's official roster, it appears that the Mets outrighted him off of it. He would have earned roughly $1.2MM in 2012 had the Mets retained him through arbitration. GM Sandy Alderson isn't sure if anxiety and depression will prevent...

Welcome, THB Class of 2011
For once the actual weather matched the spiritual forecast: A day after a thoroughly entertaining World Series that featured a Game 6 for the ages, the East Coast got walloped by a blast of snow, slush and mess. The mess is gone but it’s still cold, and on some essential level it will stay that way until mid-February or the beginning of March or Wednesday, April 4 or Thursday...

More on Buchholz and the Mets
Photo by Michael BaronI found it interesting that the Mets activated Taylor Buchholz from the 60 day disabled list. After losing almost the entire season to depression the team could have easily justified out-righting him and hoping to resign on a minor league deal or even moving on altogether. The 29 y/o right hander will cost the team under 1M to keep and maybe showing him the...

Buchholz to the 60day DL
Photo by Michael BaronI'm rooting for Taylor Buchholz, it takes a lot of courage to admit that your struggling with depression, especially as a major league ball player. Taylor Buchholz - A Man's Man Comes Clean About Depression
Mets reliever Taylor Buchholz has been sidelined since May 30th with what was called a "shoulder problem." Buccholz, who has been off to an impressive start (1-1 3.12 ERA), experienced shoulder discomfort, and was disabled. It was not thought of to be anything major, but a month and a half later, there have been no sightings of the Mets righty reliever. Just recently...

Taylor Buchholz Lands on DL Because of Depression
The game of baseball is not for everyone. We know that, but we tend to make the assumption that all of those who play baseball for a living enjoy it. We look at professional baseball players and their multimillion-dollar contracts and assume they must be happy and love their jobs. Players like Mets reliever Taylor [...]

Taylor Buchholz—who was actually decent in 26 relief innings for the Mets this year—is on the DL with depression. This is not altogether unusual: note Khalil Greene and Dontrelle Willis. I Hum Allegiance to Jason Bay
Perhaps the cosmic forces could handle only so much suck for one Sunday. It was gloomy outside. It was gloomier on TV.
