NL East: A Fascinating Place: Nationals
This is the fourth post in a series that has looked at the National League East, a division that has had some dynamic movement during this off season. The first post looked at the Phillies and they are the top dogs until somebody knocks them off. The Braves were covered in the second post and it was seen that they have the potential to win 95 games if everything goes perfectly. The...

Is the Nationals Pitching Staff Among the Best in Baseball?
It's clear that Washington Nationals GM Mike Rizzo puts a premium on quality pitching, and the Nats are becoming a team that's increasingly difficult to ignore because of it. The Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Angels have incredible pitching rotations, but what about the entirety of their pitching staffs? Can anyone compare to the Nats?
It hasn't taken long for the...

When Debbi Taylor interviewed Doug Slaten
Christmas comes early in NatsTown: Nationals non-tender Doug Slaten.
Sadly, Slaten was at his most productive in 2011 during the 77 game stint he spent on the DL with left elbow ulnar neuritis.
Meanwhile the Nats tender contracts to: Tyler Clippard, Jesus Flores, Tom Gorzelanny, John Lannan, Michael Morse, and Jordan Zimmermann.

Three Potential LOOGY Targets
According to MLB Trade Rumors, each of the following three pitchers have cleared waivers and are therefore eligible to be dealt. The numbers presented represent their numbers against left-handed batters, as the Yankees have enough talented righties to allow Girardi to leverage Logan and another lefty to the best of their abilities.

Gorzelanny yearns for return to starting rotation
Washington Nationals pitcher Tom Gorzelanny wants to be a starter, not a reliever. He makes no secret of that. Stuck in a relief role behind a rotation of young arms, workhorse Livan Hernandez and the career revitalization project of Chien-Ming Wang, the 29-year-old lefty called his situation "not ideal." "It's ...

The Best of the Scrapheap
The month of August is a good time to keep tabs on Ben Nicholson Smith's continuously updated Players Who Cleared Waivers post.
Reading it on the Subway tonight after work, a handful of pitchers stood out:
Chris Capuano, Mets - Capuano owns a 3.74 SIERA as of August 14th and earns only $1.5MM plus incentives, so it's hard to see why a few teams didn't place claims...

Killer K’s: Fantasy Baseball Strikeout Options
If your fantasy baseball team is in dire need of help in the category of strikeouts, a quick trip to the waiver wire or trading block may be just what the doctor ordered. However, there may be some side effects from the medication the fantasy doctor prescribes. In other words, you may be able to pick up a pitcher or two to help out with some much-needed K’s but these same pitchers also...
