Orioles' Tsuyoshi Wada nearing rehab assignment
Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter told reporters -- including Rich Dubroff of CSN Baltimore -- that left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada is nearing a minor league rehab assignment.
“He’s had no setbacks yet, so that’s really good to see,”
Showalter said. “I like the way he’s progressing and presenting himself as an
option. That’s encouraging.”

Tsuyoshi Wada throws breaking balls in latest bullpen session
Orioles pitcher Tsuyoshi Wada threw another bullpen session Thursday morning. Wada had already thrown a few bullpen sessions this spring but began working on breaking balls in this one.
The left-handed Wada signed a two-year deal worth $8.15 million in December of 2011.
Wada never pitched during the 2012 season. He underwent Tommy John surgery in mid-May. The Orioles are hopeful...
Orioles P Chen wants to be more competitive
Wei-Yin Chen has become Baltimore's biggest winner.
Just 12 months ago, Chen was an unknown for the Orioles.
The 27-year-old Taiwan native arrived in Baltimore by way of Japan, where he spent four seasons. The unknown turned into a huge bargain for Baltimore, who signed him to a three-year, $11 million contract before the 2012 season.
Japanese left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada and...
Tsuyoshi Wada Injury: Orioles SP not expected back until May or June
After he underwent Tommy John surgery last year, the Baltimore Orioles want to make sure they are as cautious as possible with Tsuyoshi Wada. Wada is not expected to return from the injury until May or June of this year. This is not due to a setback or delay in his rehab. It's simply a precautionary decision.
The Orioles pitching coach, Rick Adair said on WBAL radio...
Orioles Injury News: Tsuyoshi Wada Tommy John Update
During the Winter Meetings, the Baltimore Orioles told media that Tsuyoshi Wada was ahead of schedule in his recovery from Tommy John surgery. Wada underwent the surgery in May. As long as all goes well with his rehab, he is expected back somewhere around May of next year. And it seems, all is going well for Wada.
Roch Kubatko of MASN reported yesterday that he was told...
Wei-Yin Chen’s Surprising Fastball
With an inability to develop quality arms stateside, the Baltimore Orioles have made an attempt to solve their pitching woes through the international market. Specifically, the Orioles have dove headfirst into Asia — too aggressively for the tastes of some in the Far East — bringing in two starting pitchers for 2012 in Tsuyoshi Wada and Wei-Yin Chen. Wada will spend the year...
Arrieta pitches gem; Orioles take two out three from Yankees, Wada
The Baltimore Orioles this season have continued to amaze me. We all know their next few weeks are going to be tough, but so far they are continuing to roll.
Last night, they defeated the New York Yankees, 6-0, in the Bronx. Jake Arrieta perhaps threw his best game as an Oriole, going eight shutout innings, striking out nine and stifling a tough New York lineup.
Matt Wieters hit...

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Tsuyoshi Wada, who hasn't pitched in a regular season game this season, will require Tommy John surgery and will miss the entire 2012 season, Ken Rosenthal reports. The Orioles signed Wada this offseason from Japan for a two year, $8.15 million contract.
The 31 year-old Wada pitched with the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks last year, where he had a...

Orioles LHP Wada seeks 2nd opinion on ailing elbow
Orioles pitcher Tsuyoshi Wada will get a second opinion on his ailing left elbow from orthopedist Dr. Lewis Yocum.
Orioles manager Buck Showalter says Wada was diagnosed with ligament damage after undergoing a magnetic resonance angiogram. The Japanese left-hander intends to visit Yocum to determine whether the ligament is severely torn and if surgery will be required.
Yocum examined...
Orioles' Wada may be facing surgery
Lefty Tsuyoshi Wada has an injury to his left elbow and could be facing surgery. There was no specific terminology given to the injury, which Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter deemed "a problem" following Tuesday's 2-1 win over Toronto. Showalter stopped short of calling it a tear, but the issue is with the ligament in his
pitching elbow. It's an injury...
Orioles place LHP Wada and catcher Teagarden on DL
The Baltimore Orioles have placed left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada and catcher Taylor Teagarden on the 15-day disabled list.
The Orioles also purchased the contracts of catcher Ronny Paulino and first baseman Nick Johnson, and optioned left-hander Zach Phillips to Triple-A Norfolk while finalizing their 25-man roster Wednesday.
Wada has a sore left elbow. His stint on the disabled list...
Wada on DL; More Moves Made...
The Baltimore Orioles made a few more moves yesterday, as the roster for Opening Day is close to being finalized. The biggest news out of the flurry of activity is that pitcher Tsuyoshi Wada will start the season on the disabled list. He says that he is fine and ready to go; however, although Wada had some soreness issues, the Orioles decided to make the move in order to get him...

MLB Excitement With a Failing Team
If you’re living in the Northeast part of the county, you know that spring is finally here. Temperatures are starting to rise, flowers are starting to bloom and the Major League Baseball season is here. Technically, the first MLB game was played late Tuesday night with the Seattle Mariners defeating the Oakland Athletics 3-1 in Japan. If you ask me, the real MLB season doesn...
Swarzak, Twins shut out Orioles
SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) -- The first spring start for Japanese left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada didn't go exactly how the Baltimore Orioles planned it -- not in length of appearance, and certainly not in the results.
Wada gave up four runs and four hits in three innings during the Minnesota Twins' 5-0 victory Tuesday. Wada walked two, struck out three and was pulled from his abbreviated...
Twins 5, Orioles 0
The Minnesota Twins scored four runs off Japanese left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada and held the Baltimore Orioles hitless until the eighth inning in a 5-0 exhibition victory Tuesday.
Making his first start since being signed in the offseason as a free agent, Wada was pulled after three innings because of a high pitch count. He threw 62 pitches, including 30 in a three-run second.
Wada...
Another Proud Day for the Baltimore Orioles
New Orioles General Manager Dan Duquette has made no secret of the fact that he wishes to expand the O’s presence in foreign scouting markets, especially those in Asia. While Asian baseball hasn’t produced any real superstars other than Ichiro, more than a few serviceable major league players have come over to the United States from Japan, Korea, and other nations. So far already...

This afternoon, the Baltimore Orioles and Atlanta Braves played to a 2-2, 10-inning tie in Buena Vista, FL. The positive news on the afternoon involved Tsuyoshi Wada, who made his first appearance of Spring Training, and gave up one run in two innings of work. He also struck out three batters. Wada does not throw particularly hard; however, his location was spot on when he pitched...
