The NHL regular season has yet to officially start, but the Russian-based KHL season has been in full swing for the past month now. The top team with the best record is SKA St. Petersburg who are lead by former New Jersey Devil forward Ilya Kovalchuk and Arizona Coyotes first-round bust from 2007, Viktor Tikhonov.

With the 28th overall pick of the 2008 NHL Draft, the Phoenix Coyotes selected Viktor Tikhonov. Tikhonov turned out to be one of the biggest busts in the teams’ short history. Everybody remembers the epic battles during the Cold War between the USA and the URSS back in the day. But too many things have changed since the 80´s. Russia has never won an Olympic gold medal in men’s hockey. The Soviet Union won every Olympic title from 1964 through 1992 except for 1980. This time Russia is hosting the Sochi Winter Olympics Games, and their President, Vladimir...
There is something about watching ads for a foreign country that is just fun, especially when they're ads for something familiar back here in North America. American hockey commercials (as well as Canadian ones) are full of grit and determination. The players are serious. They squint. They have all of Canada behind them as well as a box of Timbits.
In Russia? Just some overgrown...
