Hard Cap NBA: The Boston Celtics
I recently started a series of posts about my exploration of an NBA with a hard salary cap and other features.
Here’s how the 2011 offseason in such a hard cap world worked out:
Boston Celtics Release
Von Wafer ($872k)
Semi Erden ($1.2M)
Delonte West ($1M)
Troy Murphy ($1.2M)
Jermaine O’Neal (678k)
Marquis Daniels ($1.1M)
They preferred not to release the last...
A change of scenery was all Glen Davis needed
For the second straight game, the Celtics squared off against a recent trade partner, last night facing the Orlando Magic. Glen Davis and Von Wafer were swapped for Brandon Bass before last season by Danny Ainge. In a move that most Celtic’s fans can unanimously agree was a positive move for the future of the Celtics, it also appears to be a good move for Big Baby (via The...

All About 18: Brandon Bass
As
training camp dawns upon us, All About 18
turns its attention to the Celtics’ incumbent starting 4, Brandon Bass. Acquired in December 2011 for Big Baby Davis
and Von Wafer, the hulking Bass debuted on Christmas Day in high gear for
Boston with 20 points and 11 rebounds off the bench (second only to Rondo’s
31-point, 13-assist, 5-board effort) in a 104-106 opening...

The #NBA Is Tweeting, Featuring Brandon Jennings
In this edition of The #NBA Is Tweeting, MarShon Brooks goes to Six Flags, Tony Allen declares “astronaut status,” Sebastian Telfair dreams, and Brandon Jennings gets hungry. Also, Von Wafer eats all the wings, Trevor Booker watches movies, and Aquille Carr keeps his pockets on J. Stackhouse.

Von Wafer appeared in 33 games with the Magic during the 11-12 season.
Tuesday Morning Links, Featuring Russell Westbrook
Basketball Jones: New shirt ideas for Russell Westbrook. May I suggest one with his red glasses on it? You know, to match his red glasses. It’ll be funny because the shirt will have as many lenses as the actual glasses: none.

Former Celtic Glen Davis Suspended By Magic For Outburst
Former Celtics 6th Man, Glen “Big Baby” Davis is living up to his nickname yet again as his new team, the Orlando Magic suspended the often immature Glen Davis for two games after an outburst during the teams practice today. Davis was traded to the Magic this offseason along with Von Wafer in exchange for [...]
POTD 1/23/12: JaJuan Johnson On Von Wafer
JaJuan Johnson has scored seven baskets in his young NBA career. I’ve seen two of the seven, both of which were dunks… and fairly nasty ones at that. One of the five that I haven’t seen was also a dunk, so that means 42.8% of his scores (excluding freethrows) come on throw downs. That’s a pretty solid ratio for a young forward. Keep it up, JaJuan!

Worst of the Night: January 18, 2012
The Orlando Magic's shootin' eye: Despite a 60-41 rebounding deficit, a 2-for-17 shooting performance from beyond the arc, and Dwight Howard's Animal Style Double-Double (24 points, 25 boards), the Spurs downed the Magic in OT. In Orlando. It was San Antonio's first road win of the season.[throws confetti]And Stan Van Grumpy wants to take the blame: "Our guys...

After nine long months, Wizards finally get a win
It was exactly nine months ago that the Wizards watched Von Wafer, then with the Boston Celtics, embarrass himself by missing a dunk and unwittingly celebrating so hard that he bumped into Jermaine O’Neal and created a turnover. It was a hilarious scene that highlighted the Wizards’ last victory in 2011.

Bench Holds It Steady In Sacramento
They were rested enough to take control of the game late. The energy had been provided, the lift been given. Dwight Howard missed most of the game with foul trouble -- he picked up two quick ones nearly 90 seconds into the game and then picked up number four quickly in the third. This seemed like a game where the Magic would fold against an energetic and aggressive Kings team willing...
