Reds Acquire Valdez, Avoid Arbitration With Masset
If the signing of utility man Willie Harris on Monday wasn't enough to secure depth in the Cincinnati infield, Wednesday's deal sure did.
Late Wednesday afternoon, the Redlegs pulled the trigger on a trade that landed utility infielder Wilson Vadlez from the Phillies in exchange for left-handed reliever Jeremy Horst.
Valdez appeared in 99 games for the NL East Champs...

Should the Mets re-sign Willie Harris?
With all three of the Mets’ starting outfielders on the shelf, Willie Harris has received regular playing time the final week-plus of the season. In fact, Harris is tied with Jose Reyes for most games played for the 2011 Mets, something that no one saw coming when he inked a minor league deal back in January. It has been a nice bounce-back season for the veteran, which brings...

Should Mets drop Willie Harris despite his hot streak?
Last year Willie Harris posted a .653 OPS (a drop of 104 points from a year ago) and it looked like his career was in jeopardy. He hooked on with the Mets and got off to a hot start in 2011. But by the third week of May, Harris was back to his 2010 ways, as he had a .203/.308/.304 line and a demotion/release seemed imminent.
But the Mets ran into some injuries – or is that the...

Mets unlikely to re-sign Willie Harris
The Mets “aren’t likely to attempt to re-sign OF Willie Harris,” tweets Andy Martino of the Daily News.
In October, Martino said a team source indicated that Harris and Scott Hairston would not be resigned until much later in the off-season, “if they are resigned at all.”
However, Martino added Harris “became a clubhouse leader and one of manager Terry Collins’...

Was That Willie Harris In CF For Washington?
OUCH! Last night's game hurt. There wasn't just one reason for the pain the Mets caused fans last night. There were a quite a few. First painful stat is the Mets left 10 men on base. With the dearth of run production the Mets have had of late, this stat really stands out. They are getting people on base, but incapable of plating them. Second wound was opened when Collins...

MLB stars seek hits for at-bat music
When the Mets' Willie Harris hunches over the iPod in his locker, as he seems to spend hours doing, he is not just going through the clubhouse motions of killing time before a game.
Very deliberately, almost subliminally, he is sending messages to his teammates, The Wall Street Journal reported. This song, he tells them through the music and a cranked-up speaker, should accompany...

Last Night: Harris comes through in the clutch
Yesterday, Willie Harris went 1 for 3 with two RBI and a run scored.
In the top of the ninth, Harris capped the Mets’ six-run rally by delivering the go-ahead, two out, two strike, two-run single.
Brian Erni: Since his rough start to the 2011 season, Harris has been quietly productive coming off the bench. His .256 average and .361 on-base percentage — along with his...

Redder Pastures
Further proof that the band will not be getting back together, Willie Harris has left Flushing for the allure of chili cheese coneys and bad pizza ... and a much more realistic shot at a division title in Cincinnati where Harris has signed with the Reds on a minor league contract. Willie Harris in LF, Murphy at 3rd base Mets vs Braves June 14th, 2011
Terry Collins knows Jurrjens is tough. He playing the numbers tonight. Willie Harris starts in Left field over Jason Bay. Harris is 7 for 14 against Jurrjens in his career. The Mets will have Turner on the pine and will have Murphy at 3rd tonight instead. Murph is hitting .333 against Jurrjens. Pretty odd lineup if you ask me as the Mets start a 3 game set against the Braves...

Beyond the Diamond: When Life Gets in the Way
There are two things that have been nagging at my mind, in a sad way, the last few days. First, when it was announced the other night that Willie Harris had to abruptly leave the team to fly home to be with his wife who had gone into premature labor, at first I thought, ok the baby is probably a few weeks to a month early, no big deal, hospitals deal with that all the time. Then...

About Last Night: Harris on Collins, team’s struggles
Posted in MetsBlog
Last night, Willie Harris struggled defensively at third base.
After the game, Harris talked with reporters and basically said:
This is without a doubt the angriest he’s seen Terry Collins, who’s brief post-game talk with the team was taken to heart.
When a team is struggling, it can be a good test of a player’s character.
In the 7th inning,...
