Philadelphia Eagles Need to Leave Underachieving Draft Pick Behind

With the Eagles trying to figure out a messy roster situation, it maybe time to cut ties with underachieving receiver Reggie Brown “When I’m wrong, I say I’m wrong.” A simple line said by Baby’s Dad in the pop movie Dirty Dancing, that could become some sound advice for the Eagles when evaluating an underachieving, highly drafted player.  A good...

Vince Young's really struggling

Proof: He couldn't make Bobby Carpenter miss in the open field. Actually, give Carpenter credit for making a sound tackle in space. Speaking of struggling, the Cowboys have now muffed three punts during the preseason. Willie Reid did it last week. Patrick Crayton and now DeAngelo Smith have done it tonight.

Joe DeCamillis can't be especially pleased with special teams

The new and improved Cowboys special teams units weren't so improved in the preseason opener. Sam Hurd was called for holding on the opening kickoff, giving the Cowboys terrible field position to start the game. Nick Folk missed a 36-yard field goal. Willie Reid muffed a punt, giving the Raiders the ball deep in Dallas territory. David Buehler, who hit pay dirt on every kickoff...

Steelers Start Preseason Undefeated!

So one preseason game is like, what, 10 tweets? We saw the starters for a few series, got our first look and the new mugs, and now we'll spend the next week making predictions about what it all means. With that in mind:* The first-team offensive line is in midseason form. Not a compliment, but again, I've learned to accept it.* Bruce Arians is still in love with the five...

Whoops! Willie Reid muffs a punt

WR Willie Reid's roster chances were slim to none anyway. Slim might have left the building the second he muffed that punt to give the Raiders the ball at the Dallas 11. The fourth quarter has been about what one should expect out of preseason opener garbage time, which is another way to say painful to watch.

BTB: Friday's Practice #4

Dallas Cowboys 2009 Training Camp: Practice #4 by Dave Halprin (Grizz) on Jul 31, 2009 6:37 PM Full pads for today's affair. Stephen Hodge, Tim Anderson still rehabbing. One thing I like, DeAngelo Smith was out on the field 30 minutes before practice catching punts from the machine. Nice to see a rookie dedicated like that.Started out with special teams drills again, and then...

Todd Archer's training camp observations

I'm sure Tim covered some of this stuff in his chat during the practice, but I'm coming from a field perspective so maybe we'll have some different nuggets. Here goes: ** Wade Phillips started the day off by getting Rowdy out of the team's stretching drills. The mascot that will not be mentioned here again was hamming it up with Rodney Hannah when he was told to...

Live from Standridge Stadium II: Hands-on coaching

The Cowboys' second practice of the day is underway. Refresh repeatedly for updates. (Except for about 10-15 minutes, starting at 4:20. Then tune into ESPN 103.3 for my award-winning -- potentially -- practice report on Galloway and Co.)\ 3:24 -- Here's what I call hands-on coaching: Offensive coordinator Jason Garrett and QB coach Wade Wilson are under center, taking snaps...

One new rule and two new players

Cowboys PR chief Rich Dalrymple met with the media before allowing us into Standridge Stadium and informed us that reporting about strategical moves is off-limits. In other words, no more detailed Razorback reports. The Cowboys signed two new players for minicamp: P Matt Fodge (Oklahoma State and Garland) and WR Willie Reid, who has spent time with the Steelers and Eagles. Special...

Ziggy, Frank The Tank, Mike Wallace And The Rest Of The '09 Draft Class

This year's was a predictably austere but encouraging draft by the Steelers, one that putatively addressed an array of team needs, from shoring up the secondary, adding a possible starting interior lineman, providing much-needed depth to the receiving corps, picking up a bruising short yardage back, taking another shot at drafting a kick returner and, inexplicably, another tight...

Steelers ink Bloom to practice squad

It seems as if the Steelers management wasn’t all that thrilled with Willie Reid’s return game Sunday, either. The Denver Post is reporting that the Steelers signed former Colorado standout return man Jeremy Bloom to their practice squad. The Post is saying Bloom will practice with the te...
