The Tigers made a roster move today to clear space for the newest Tiger, Victor Martinez. RHP Zach Miner, who missed all of 2010 with injuries, was designated for assignment today. The Tigers would have non-tendered Miner on Thursday, but with the need for an open spot, they made this move today. Miner will become a free agent, but can re-sign with Detroit. What a grand off-season...

Junkballing: Red Sox recap, Miner’s elbow

My stream of consciousness on the Tigers most recent two games against the Red Sox, Zach Miner’s injury, and what ever else comes to mind. Beating the Red Sox Honestly, I’m thrilled with the series. Friday night was certainly a clunker and Saturday was shaping up to be one. From where they were in the first half of that second game to where they ended the series is reason to...

Miner Elbow Issues

Another possible solution to the Tigers impending roster crunch involving the pitching staff emerged today when Zach Miner underwent an MRI on his tender right elbow. According to a tweet from Tom Gage, Miner shows no structural damage but his soreness could restrict his availability to the point that he would begin the season on the disabled list. As much [...]

Game 124: Orioles at Tigers

PREGAME: The Tigers look to squeak out a series win. They'll send out Zach Miner who is trying to lock up a spot in next year's rotation. News and Notes: 11.30.2010

- Zach Miner has been designated for assignment. Assuming he clears (I’m sure he will), he’ll be a free agent on Friday.  But the Tigers are likely to bring him back.  He’s been a great spot starter and will be a good long man starting off in 2011.  Good info on the rationale for taking Miner off of the 40 man in lieu of a minor leaguer in yesterday’s Freep. - Expect the...

Game 114: Tigers at White Sox

PREGAME: I'm going out to enjoy a lovely day on the beach. When I settle in tonight I'll see if the Tigers as a collective team have anything left - like pride, or if they simply mail in the season. Seay, Miner hit the DL

The Tigers trimmed their roster down to 32 this morning with a couple of disabled list moves and other cuts. Most notable was the placement of Bobby Seay and Zach Miner on the 15 day disabled list. Seay has been traveling from doctor to doctor in search of a diagnosis on his balky left arm. Miner’s malady seems less dire but he won’t be ready for the beginning of the season....

Game 119: Blue Jays at Tigers

PREGAME: It's A.J. Burnett against Zach Miner. Miner has had a quality start in 3 of his first 4 efforts since returning to the rotation. Burnett has great peripherals. His home run rate of .8 per 9 [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Game 119: Blue Jays at Tigers", url: "http://www.detroittigersweblog.com/2008/08...

Player Profile: Zach Miner

Did you miss Zachary? Well, he’s back! Okay, so maybe it’s not the return of Greinke…or anything like Greinke for that matter. Nonetheless, the Royals signed ex-Detroit Tiger Zach Miner, a right-handed pitcher, to a minor-league deal today. It’s not a hugely notable deal, but it could have an impact down the line. So, I want to run over a few things about Miner. The first...

Game 155: Royals at Tigers

PREGAME: The battle for last place is underway. The Tigers have a 2 game lead, that could evaporate if they keep playing their current brand of baseball. In 3 starts [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Game 155: Royals at Tigers", url: "http://www.detroittigersweblog.com...

Game 129: Tigers at Royals

Things In Sports That Make Me Want To Plunge Knitting Needles Into My Eyes

1. The baseball Wild Card. Yes, I know it saved the Tigers' rear ends last season, and it was providing them (until this week) with their only legitimate postseason hope this season, too. But how much more exciting would the Yankees' relentless pursuit of the Red Sox be if the loser of that division would be left out of the October tournament? Instead, it's merely something to be...
