Ted Nolan should soon have his interim tag removed after what he’s done with the Buffalo Sabres (via BuffaloHockeyBeat)
November 13, 2013. It started off as a normal day in the NHL, but in the late morning, the Buffalo Sabres ended that feeling swiftly. Owner Terry Pegula announced, in a press conference, that he had fired coach Ron Rolston and general manager Darcy Regier...
The Boston Bruins did a lot of good things in their first game after the Olympic break against the Buffalo Sabres. But even that wasn’t enough to beat the NHL’s worst team.
The Bruins were uneven in their first game since Feb. 8, and too many ill-timed mistakes cost the B’s in a 5-4 overtime loss to the lowly Sabres. Boston does get a point out of the disappointing defeat,...
Matt D'Agostini outraced Zdeno Chara to a loose puck and scored 22 seconds into overtime in lifting the Buffalo Sabres to a 4-3 win over the Boston Bruins on Wednesday night.
Matt Moulson forced overtime by scoring with 53 seconds left in regulation in a game the Sabres won after squandering a 3-1 second-period lead. Brian Flynn had a goal and assist, while Tyler Myers and Zemgus...

If you read last week’s column then you already know how I feel about the Olympics… If not, they’re officially over, WOO-HOO! Despite my self-admitted disinterest in the Olympics, international hockey is the one sport I do enjoy watching during this time of year. I was rather annoyed/bummed, as I’m sure most of you were, when team USA put up a goose egg in the semi-finals...
9:15 a.m. ET: Team Canada caught a break when Latvia upset Switzerland on Tuesday.
The Canadians are undefeated thus far in Olympic and would have been favored against either opponent Wednesday in the quarterfinals, but the Swiss were the tournament’s best defensive team in the preliminary round and a sleeper pick to make a deep run.
Their time in Sochi was cut short with a 3-1...
Latvia will play Canada in the Olympic quarterfinals on Wednesday in Sochi.
No. This is not a typo.
Latvia, the under dogs with the pit bull terrier spirit, have defeated the previously unbeatable Jonas Hiller and the Swiss in their semifinals tap-out game on Tuesday. Now, the little country that could will stand nose-to-nose...
Team Latvia head coach Ted Nolan and power center Zemgus Girgensons must feel like their preliminary round game against the Swiss was a game that they had played earlier this season with their Buffalo Sabres. The game had all of the elements to qualify as a 2013-14 Buffalo Sabres NHL game: the opponent held the puck for what seemed like an eternity, there were low chances to get shot...
Olympic hockey is almost here. The first games are Wednesday at noon, but the U.S. won't play until Thursday morning.
Of all the Sabres players in Sochi, Ryan Miller is the obvious one to watch, especially if he gets the start.
Jhonas Enroth and Henrik Tallinder will represent Sweden, while Zemgus Girgensons will represent Latvia. Team USA won't face either of those...
Team Latvia hockey has had some famous players do damage on international ice. Arturs Irbe is easily the most famous player in national history. Latvian head coach and current Buffalo Sabres bench boss Ted Nolan has his work cut out for him as only five players have NHL experience.
The majority of Team Latvia plays in the Kontinental Hockey League for Dynamo Riga based in Latvia...
Some members of the U.S. hockey team heading to the Sochi Games this weekend will be carrying some high-tech gear with them that will be kept under wraps.
Socks. Very high-tech, performance socks.
During the last couple years there's been a growing trend among NHL players trying to protect their lower legs from skate blades. Several manufacturers produce these high-tech socks...

Who says the Phoenix Coyotes don’t have passionate fans?
This one young Coyotes fan was the life of the party when Phoenix hosted the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday, tearing it up on the air guitar as Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird” pumped through the speakers at Jobing.com Arena.
Unfortunately, this youngster’s night ended in disappointment, as a Zemgus Girgensons goal early...

On their heels and down a man early in the third period, the Sabres apparently had the Phoenix Coyotes right where they wanted them.
Buffalo rookie Zemgus Girgensons stunned the Coyotes and goaltender Thomas Greiss with a short-handed goal two minutes into the final period Thursday, breaking a 2-2 tie and lifting the Sabres to a 3-2 victory.

Zemgus Girgensons scored a short-handed goal in the third period and had an assist, and the road-weary Buffalo Sabres knocked off the Phoenix Coyotes 3-2 on Thursday.
The Sabres had plenty of energy in their third game in four nights, scoring the first goal and rallying from a 2-1 deficit in the third period. Tyler Ennis and Steve Ott scored, and Girgensons put Buffalo ahead with...

After dropping three of the previous four games, the Sabres found a way to grab a victory. Zemgus Girgensons' shorthanded goal in the third period helped Buffalo defeat the Coyotes by a 3-2 score.
With the victory, Buffalo took the season series (2-0) against Phoenix as they concluded the final meeting.
Like they've been doing as of late, the Sabres' offense was...

Latvia will hope that the fourth time’s the charm for them as they look to avoid placing last in their fourth straight Olympic Games. The figures are on their side though, as many have projected them to finish in a much better position compared to decades before.
It remains a daunting task, however, for the Latvians to gain any ground in the World Rankings as they’ll play in...
There’s no column in the standings for style points.
As such, for the Maple Leafs on Wednesday night at the Air Canada Centre, all that mattered was the end result.
And it was a 4-3 shootout win against the Buffalo Sabres, a victory that came after James van Riemsdyk, Joffrey Lupul and Tyler Bozak all scored on usual Leafs killer Ryan Miller in the game-ending gimmick.
Team Latvia’s 2010 Record: 12th place
We will start off with Team Latvia who is in Group C of the Olympic group. Team Latvia had a disappointing trip back in 2010 as they finished in 12th place. This time around, head coach Ted Nolan will look to improve his team’s performance and return with a much better outcome. Here are the Latvian’s 25 men rosters:

Monday was Sabres’ youngin’ Zemgus Girgensons 20th birthday. So after practice, 20 teammates lined up and Girgensons was sent through for 20 spankings – hockey style.
With the lowest amount of points in the NHL, it’s good to see the Sabres enjoying themselves in some fashion. Ryan Miller took out a bit of frustration on his turn.
[Thanks Buffalo Don]
The Sabres did not have a morning skate today due to the weather.
The Sabres will be sending a few more to the Olympics. Ted Nolan and Zemgus Girgensons will be on Team Latvia, while Henrik Tallinder and Jhonas Enroth will play for Sweden.

Jonathan Bernier stopped all three Sabres in the shootout to give the Toronto Maple Leafs a 4-3 win over Buffalo on Friday night.
Matt Moulson, Tyler Ennis and Zemgus Girgensons all failed to beat Bernier.
Ryan Miller stopped Phil Kessel and James van Riemsdyk in the tiebreaker, but Joffrey Lupul beat him on a nifty backhand.

Since before the beginning of this season, everything that the Sabres have had to say about their young players has been tagged with the #Blueprint hashtag. It’s on all of their tweets. It’s on the banner of the team’s official website sabres.nhl.com. Every time that one of the wonder kids from the last two draft years did anything of note, or anyone under the age of twenty...
