Dare I disrespect the Legend of Doyle Brunson

If you're a poker fan then I must warn you this post may be hard to swallow.

As I'm sitting here watching the WSOP replay for the 90th time. I watched as Doyle caught a bad break to get eliminated from the tourney. Doyle's AQ both paired the board while his opponent held pocket Q's and hit his trips on the board. One of the announcers mentioned that Doyle hasn't won a WSOP in 30 years.

Now I can understand that in the past 10 years or so, Holdem, particularly No Limit has steam rolled in popularity. So I won't hold that against him. However, what about the majesty of his name, his legend. The great Doyle was 0 - 20 and hasn't won a WSOP main event title since 1977. In which case he won both Main Event titles with 10 - 2 offsuit. One could make an arguement for luck.

Granted he has 11 WSOP bracelets, but only 2 main event titles.

I'm not trying to dis Doyle, just had a thought and wanted to put it out there to get some feedback.

I can kind of understand where you're coming from with this, but I think you're taking some things out of context.
When Doyle won both of his WSOP titles there was a playing field of 22 and 34 respectively. Those numbers have increased tenfold since then. Also, Doyle has been one of the most consistent cash game winners of the last 50 years. And come on, you don't win 11 bracelets if you're not amazing at poker, hands down, every single game.
I like that you put this out there for some feedback, hope I brought a little insight lol.
And about the luck thing, absolutely luck played a part, but I'm sure his chip stack and skill had just as much to do with it.

Yeah - thanks for the comment. I know Doyle is the man. Just had a crazy thought while watching WSOP replay. I think he is certainly in the twilight of his career and is nothing more than a figure head at this point. Having said that, he is and always has been what good poker is all about.

POKER,poker is a excellent thing.I think that all of we can enjoy with it
