Tells
In addition to some understanding of mathematics and odds, position, starting hand strength, effective betting and so on, a successful poker player must also possess a degree of psychological perspicacity; that is to say, an ability to "read" his or her opponents. Some of the best poker players in the world possess an almost telekinetic ability not only to put their opponents on hands but to also gauge their emotional and mental states in the event of a steal attempt or a stone-cold bluff. But for most poker players not gifted with ESP, solid poker play combined with an awareness and exploitation of an opponent's tells will often tip the scales in their favour.
