Fantasy Baseball Morning Update: Price heads to the DL

Let's start today's festivities with a shout-out to David Wells on the 15th anniversary of his perfect game, which remains the best sporting event I've ever attended. Keeping with an annual blog tradition, the excerpt below is from my post on the 10th anniversary of the game.

... it (also) represented what I love most about baseball - you never know when something great is going to happen, or who's going to make it happen. In basketball, if someone is going to have an all-time game, you know it's going to be someone like Kobe or LeBron or D-Wade. In football, the Giants recently pulled a shocker, but it was the Super Bowl - it's supposed to be exciting.
Wells' gem came on a random Sunday afternoon against the Twins. My friend Cogs and his fiancee (now wife) Monica were going to be in town for my cousin's wedding the day before, and he had asked me to pick up tickets. The three of us, along with our friend J.D., got to the game a little late, expecting to sit down fo

Fantasy Baseball Morning Update: Price's early exit

Ouch, Phil Hughes. Your fantasy owners aren't going to forget that outing any time soon.
First pitch: The Mets and Cardinals kick off the National League schedule at 1:45 p.m. ET, while AL action begins at 7:05 with Mariners-Yankees.
Interleague DH issues: None.
Streaming starters: Mike Leake cruised through 6 2/3 shutout innings against the hapless Marlins to raise our record to 26-16 for the season. After the game, Dusty Baker seemed to indicate that Leake will keep his rotation slot when Johnny Cueto returns from the DL. Your move, Tony Cingrani.
Today's pick is Marlins' rookie Jose Fernandez (owned in 18.3 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) versus the Reds, while Friday's selection is the improving Ubaldo Jimenez (9 percent owned) against the Mariners. As I said to Ryan Fowler on Wednesday's Fantasy 15 podcast, I'm not yet sold on Ubaldo's recent success, but I'm willing to stream him in this spot.
On to the news:

Fantasy Baseball Morning Update: Jansen closes door for Dodgers

R.A. Dickey gave up two runs in six innings last night, striking out 10 batters. Maybe he's turning the corner?
First pitch: The Padres and Orioles have an interleague matchup at 12:35 p.m. ET.
Interleague DH issues: The Indians figure to trot out the same lineup as last night against Phillies' lefty Cole Hamels, so don't expect anything interesting there.
Streaming starters: Scott Kazmir wasn't so great last night, so we're down to 25-16 for the season. Today's pick is Mike Leake (owned in 2.4 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) at Miami, while Thursday's selection is Marlins' phenom Jose Fernandez (16.8 percent owned) versus the Reds.
On to the news:

Closer alert! Kenley Jansen got a one-out save last night for the Dodgers. The Los Angeles Times reports that Jansen has "apparently taken over the closer role," but the team website's game story quoted a non-committal Don Mattingly as saying, "I had to go with the guy who's throwing the ball best;

Fantasy Baseball Morning Update: Granderson back tonight?

Looking for an early fantasy MVP? How about Brewers SS Jean Segura, who's batting .368 with six home runs and 13 stolen bases. Based on draft position, he's been killing it.
First pitch: We've got 7:05 p.m. ET starts in both leagues.
Interleague DH issues: The Indians are in Philadelphia, but with Lonnie Chisenhall having been sent to the minors, Mark Reynolds has taken over at third base. Their 1B/OF/DH logjam is less crowded, and Ryan Raburn being the likely odd man out hurts far fewer fantasy owners. The Padres and Giants will use designated hitters to be determined in their visits to AL parks.
Streaming starters: Travis Wood's stellar outing raised our record to 25-15 on the season. Tonight's pick is the resurgent Scott Kazmir (owned in 13.6 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) versus the Phillies, while Wednesday's selection is Cincinnati's Mike Leake (1.7 percent owned) against the Marlins in Miami.

Fantasy Baseball Morning Update: What to do with Zack Greinke?

It sounds like Joba Chamberlain has avoided a guaranteed public relations loss by making up with Mariano Rivera after a Saturday spat. That's good, as Chamberlain would have been better off throwing a sack full of golden retriever puppies off the George Washington Bridge than having Yankee fans think he insulted Rivera.
First pitch: The Yankees and Indians play the first game of their doubleheader at 12:05 p.m. ET to start the AL day. NL action begins at 7:05 with a pair of games.
Interleague DH issues: None today, but starting Tuesday, the Indians will probably sit Mark Reynolds, Nick Swisher or Drew Stubbs (my pick) when they play in Philadelphia.
Streaming starters: Dan Straily struggled Friday, Vance Worley wasn't good outisde of notching a win on Saturday, and Chris Capuano was just fine against the Marlins on Sunday. We're 24-15 on the season.
Today's pick is underrated Cub Travis Wood (owned in 38.4 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) against the Rockies, while Tuesday's selecti

Another day, another save for Heath Bell. He's owned in just 6.5 percent of FOXSports.com leagues - what's everyone waiting for?
First pitch: Both leagues get going shortly after 7 p.m. ET.
Interleague DH issues: The Padres visit the Rays this weekend, so watch for Carlos Quentin to get some DH time. That could give Kyle Blanks some starts in the outfield.
Streaming starters: Way to go, Scott Kazmir! His terrific outing raised our record to 23-13. The weekend selections are Dan Straily (3.3 percent owned) at Seattle tonight, Minnesota's struggling Vance Worley (1.6 percent owned) against the Orioles on Saturday, and Dodger lefty Chris Capuano (1.1 percent owned) versus the Marlins on Sunday.
On to the news:

Michael Bourn has been activated from the DL and will be in the lineup tonight for the Indians, so start him if you've got him. If you recently picked up Ryan Raburn, his playing time is about to be reduced by quite a bit.

First pitch: The A's, Indians and hopefully some new umpires start the American League day at 12:05 p.m. ET, while the Yankees and Rockies get the senior circuit involved at 3:10. The third matinee is Tigers-Nationals at 4:05, so set your lineups early.
Interleague DH issues: Another day in Washington means another day on the bench for Tigers DH Victor Martinez. Travis Hafner can expect another day off for the Yankees as well.
Streaming starters: Ricky Nolasco's fine outing raised our streaming starter record to 22-13 (Jason Marquis also would have worked out, in case you were wondering). Today's pick is Cleveland's Scott Kazmir (owned in 1.1 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) against the A's, while Friday's selection is A's rookie Dan Straily (2.6 percent owned) versus the Mariners in Seattle.

Get well soon, J.A. Happ. That was a scary moment.
First pitch: Today's schedule has a pair of 12:35 p.m. ET starts that includes teams from both leagues. Get those lineups set early!
Interleague DH issues: Plenty, again. The Mariners, Tigers, Rangers, Yankees and White Sox will play in National League parks today. Victor Martinez, Lance Berkman and Travis Hafner don't figure to be in their teams' lineups. Adam Dunn started in Paul Konerko's place last night, but I doubt we'll see that again today. The Mariners will again choose between Justin Smoak and Kendrys Morales (Smoak played Tuesday).
Streaming starters: Eric Stults shut down - you guessed it - the Marlins to raise our record to 21-13. Today's pick is Ricky Nolasco (owned in 2.2 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) against the Padres, while Thursday's selection is the recently exhumed Scott Kazmir (0.7 percent owned) versus the undermanned A's.
Fantasy Baseball Morning Update: Sox' Hanrahan injured

Clay Buchholz struck out nine more batters in six innings last night. Has anyone checked the video yet for more shiny, gooey stuff on his arm? Seriously, even though he didn't have a particularly good outing otherwise, Buchholz seems like a different guy this season.
First pitch: 7:05 p.m. ET in both leagues.
Interleague DH issues: Lots of 'em. Lance Berkman (Rangers), Victor Martinez (Tigers) and Travis Hafner (Yankees) are expected to see some pinch-hitting duty in NL parks over the next couple of days, while the Mariners don't appear to have tipped their hand yet. They should bench Justin Smoak and let Kendrys Morales start at first base.
Streaming starters: Andrew Cashner's domination of the Marlins wasn't too surprising, right? Should we create a special streaming category for pitching against those guys? We're up to 20-13 for the season, with San Diego's Eric Stults (owned in 1.6 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) going for us tonight versus the hapless Fish. Wednesday&#3

Fantasy Baseball Morning Update: Halladay to DL

Yu Darvish is a strikeout machine. Through Sunday's game, he has 72 whiffs in 45 2/3 innings. My goodness.
First pitch: The White Sox and Royals start the American League day at 2:10 p.m. ET, while Braves-Reds gets the NL underway at 7:10.
Interleague DH issues: With the Rangers visiting the Cubs tonight and the Brewers on Tuesday and Wednesday, Lance Berkman will pinch hit for a few days. Looking ahead, Victor Martinez will also be a pinch-hitter when the Tigers visit the Nationals on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Streaming starters: Mike Leake's win and run prevention helped us Friday, Phil Hughes was terrific on Saturday, and Wandy Rodriguez was good enough in his Sunday loss. We're up to 19-13 for the season.
Let's keep it simple and stream against the Marlins for the next two days, taking Padres' starters Andrew Cashner (owned in 5 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) today and Eric Stults (1.3 percent owned) on Tuesday.

Fantasy Baseball Morning Update: Hot corner comebacks

I wouldn't be doing my duty as a Yankee fan if I didn't link to this article about Clay Buchholz allegedly putting a foreign substance on the baseball while pitching. This one notes that RP Junichi Tazawa may have been doing the same thing.
First pitch: The Reds and Cubs have a 2:20 p.m. ET matinee at Wrigley, while the AL schedule gets underway shortly after 7. Also, remember that MLB ON FOX coverage begins Saturday at 3:30, leading into Orioles-Angels, Cardinals-Brewers and Nationals-Pirates.
Interleague DH issues: The Rays are in Colorado, meaning that the newly activated Luke Scott figures to be a pinch hitter.
Streaming starters: Kyle Kendrick's strong outing raised our record to 16-13 for the season. The weekend picks are Mike Leake (owned in 2.3 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) today, the surging Phil Hughes (12.8 percent owned, two ER in each of his last three starts) against the A's on Saturday, and Wandy Rodriguez (24.7 percent owned) versus the Nats on Sunday.

Fantasy Baseball Morning Update: Nats' Harper day-to-day

Jason Grilli is tied for the major league lead with 11 saves. He was ranked among your top 10 closers, right? Top 15? Top 20?
Who's off: Yankees, Twins, Indians, A's, Mariners, Mets, Reds, Pirates, Giants, Dodgers, Rockies, Diamondbacks
First pitch: The Rays and Royals get the AL schedule underway at 2:10 p.m. ET, while the Padres and Cubs start the NL action in Wrigley at 2:20.
Interleague DH issues: None.
Streaming starters: Andrew Cashner wasn't so good last night, so the record drops to 15-13. Today's pick is Philly's Kyle Kendrick (34.4 percent owned) versus the horrible Marlins, while Friday's selection is Mike Leake (2 percent owned) against the Cubs. Also, as I noted on Wednesday's Fantasy 15 podcast, I picked up Phillies' rookie Jonathan Pettibone (0.2 percent owned) for Friday in the FOX Sports Experts League as part of an anybody-against-the-Marlins strategy. You don't have to join me, but I'm giving it a try.
