NCAA Football 14 Presentation Upgrade Trailer

EA Sports' presentation upgrade trailer for NCAA Football 14. The decision has been made to go toward a more realistic TV style experience in the presentation. I'm not sure it's the best idea. I wrote at length about this topic yesterday at Crystal Ball Run (where I'll be contributing on occasion).

NCAA Football 14 First Look

It's that time of year again. The first gameplay video is out from EA Sports on the latest game in the NCAA Football series. NCAA Football 14 will include things like the ability to use real cuts in running. Acceleration burst is also on the game as is "real-time physics." The latter of which shows what looks like it will likely be a gamer frustration, super power trucking, while using the same trucking animation no matter the size of the running back.
I've bought the game for x years in a row now and I'm not sure I will buy this one. I'm waiting to see more for now.

Robert Griffin III Wins 2012 NFL Positive Impact Factor MVP

Robert Griffin III helped the Washington Redskins win the NFC East for the first time since 1999 this year with his dynamic play at the quarterback position. Griffin led the league as a rookie in both pass yards per attempt (8.14, only player over 8) and rush yards per attempt (6.8, Adrian Peterson & C.J. Spiller were the only other players with at least 6 yards per attempt at 6.0). Griffin also won the Positive Impact Factor (PIF) MVP with a PIF of 62.3, which shatters Cam Newton's rookie PIF record of 49.9 in 2011.
Here's the full standings (min. 224 touches, rookies in bold):

Keenan Reynolds is 2012 FBS Regular Season Positive Impact Factor MVP

Navy freshman quarterback Keenan Reynolds is the 2012 Positive Impact Factor (PIF) regular season MVP. Reynolds is also the PIF Freshman of the Year. Reynolds posted a 72.1 PIF during the season for Navy, not far off the pace Ricky Dobbs had for Navy with a 73.9 in 2009. Reynolds had 18 TD and just 5 turnovers for Navy this season while throwing an interception on just 2.4% of his incompletions and losing just under 3% of his fumbles.
Before we get to the top performers this season, it's important to remember that these ratings have not yet been adjusted for schedule strength yet as that will happen after the bowl season.
Here's the Top Ten from this season (min. 168 touches, TD % in brackets):
1. Keenan Reynolds, Navy, 72.1 (7.6)
2. Trent Steelman, Army, 72 (5.4)
3. Jordan Lynch, NIU, 71.1 (6.9)
4. Collin Klein, Kansas State, 69.8 (7.9)
5. Eric Soza, UTSA, 67.6 (7.4)
6. Tevin Washington, Georgia Tech, 67 (9)
7. Johnny Manziel, Texas A&M, 66.6 (7.4)
8. Colby Cameron, Louisiana Tech, 65.9

2012 NFL Positive Impact Factor, Week 14

Tom Brady stayed at the top of the list with a great outing against the Texans on Monday Night Football. Brady has been the leader since Week 10 and has been able to hold off Redskins rookie QB Robert Griffin III. However, both are within striking distance of the all-time PIF (since 1992) season mark set by Aaron Rodgers last season (67.2).
The Top 5 did not see any changes since Week 12 but Cam Newton has started to get back on track and has made his way back into the Top 10 (he finished 5th as a rookie in 2011). Josh Freeman remained safely in the Top 10 this week and is approaching his 2010 PIF of 50.8 which was good for 4th that season.
Here's the updated standings (movement in brackets, rookies in bold):
1. Tom Brady, NE, 64.4 (unchanged)
2. Robert Griffin III, WAS, 63.3 (unchanged)
3. Matt Schaub, HOU, 54.3 (unchanged)
4. Aaron Rodgers, GB, 51.8 (unchanged)
5. Alex Smith, SF, 51.2 (unchanged)
6. Peyton Manning, DEN, 50 (up 2)
7. Cam Newton, CAR, 49 (up 7)
8. Russell Wilson, SEA, 47.8 (up

2012 Ty Detmer Award, Week 1 Ballot

The Detmer Award is back for a second season and the Week 1 voting results have been posted at the Award's host site, Saturday Blitz.com.
Here's my Week 1 Ballot:
1. Andrew Manley, QB, New Mexico State
2. Dri Archer, RB, Kent State
3. Austin Franklin, WR, New Mexico State
4. Cory James, LB, Colorado State
5. Johnnie Simon, S, Western Michigan
The Top Five from all the ballots turned out to be (1st place votes in brackets):
1. Tyler Tettleton, QB, Ohio (6)
2. Austin Franklin, WR, New Mexico State (2)
3t. Shawn Southward, WR, Troy
3t. Robert Herron, WR, Wyoming
5. Andrew Manley, QB, New Mexico State (1)
While Ohio's win over Penn State was impressive, it was not an upset from where I'm standing. I fully expected Ohio to win the game and march toward a 12-0 record this year. If Tettleton can guide the Bobcats in that direction, he'll have the stats to win the Detmer Award and he'll be getting my vote.
In the meantime, I was impressed by the players on my ballot for the reaso

New LSU Football 2012 Hype Video, DB Tyrann Mathieu Dismissed, Headed to McNeese State?

Here's a new LSU football hype video for the 2012 season.
Obviously, the big news today that I wrote about at Yahoo is that junior All-American cornerback and 2011 Heisman Trophy finalist Tyrann Mathieu has been dismissed for violating team policy.
Former LSU kicker and Mathieu teammate Josh Jasper said on Twitter that that Mathieu is transferring to in-state FCS school, McNeese State.
I hope Mathieu can straighten things out and wish him the best if he ends up at McNeese or some other school.

Aaron Rodgers Top Rated Quarterback In Madden NFL 13

The NFL quarterback ratings in Madden 13 are out. Green Bay Packer quarterback Aaron Rodgers is No. 1 with a 99 overall.
The game also have plenty of love for New York Giants QB Eli Manning coming off a Super Bowl winning season with a 97 overall (4th on the game). Eli Manning's brother, Peyton Manning, is rated at a 93 overall for the Denver Broncos. All of the QBs in the top 10 have at least an 89 overall. The top 5 are all rated 95 or higher which I think is giving out ratings too easily. I'm sure people will be adjusting these scores down when they get the game.
The complete Madden 13 quarterback ratings from EA Sports are also available (/ht Operation Sports).
Former LSU Tiger quarterbacks on the game:
Matt Flynn, Seattle Seahawks, 79 (29th overall)
Jarrett Lee, San Diego Chargers, 63 (98th overall)
Ryan Perrilloux, New York Giants, 56 (lowest rated QB on the game)

Big Ten Network's Top Ten Quarterbacks of the 1990s

Big Ten Network has been helping us pass the long offseason by airing their lists of the Top Ten quarterbacks of past decades. The most recent installment I saw was the 1990s. The 1980s and 2000s (2000-2009) have already aired (check the lists out here). To make the list a quarterback had to play at least two seasons in the decade.
As you can see Purdue quarterback Drew Brees topped the list of 1990s QBs. And, is there really any room for argument? Tom Brady may have been the third Michigan QB on this list, but things have turned out much differently in the NFL for that group.
Here's a fun fact from the show: Trent Green rushed for three scores against Auburn in the 1990 Peach Bowl. It's actually a record against Auburn, tied with Jack Mildren of Oklahoma from the 1972 Sugar Bowl. Auburn still won that game against Green and Indiana, 27-23.
Would you re-rank this list in some way based on their performance in college? Did any Big Ten quarterback from the 1990s get snubbed here?
