The rationale is that if you can handle shortstop you can probably handle second or third base pretty easily. So, shortstops usually represent the very best of what teams have to offer in terms of athleticism and fielding ability. If he can put it together this season and play with some consistency, there is a chance he can be a regular contributor for the Giants and actually strike it rich next offseason.
