Both players were coming

Neal Huntington says the Pirates might consider non-tendering Matt Capps:

"That's an awfully tough question to answer because I'm in a no-win situation by addressing it. Matt's shown the signs to be a major league closer, and we've seen it here and there. The blown saves aren't nearly as bad as the ERA and the hits per inning...

Lidge however, returns the favor as a single, wild pitch and error ties the game, then Andrew McCutchen homers to win the contest 6-3. Capps blew [...]

Andrew McCutchen's Walk-Off Homer Defeats Phillies

Wow. Just when I was about to write a pithy two-sentence post about how awful Matt Capps is, that happened. After Capps allowed two runs to blow a save in the top of the ninth (aided by a ball McCutchen misread in the outfield), Brad Lidge came into the game, gave up a single to Luis Cruz, allowed Cruz to get to second on a wild pitch, and had Brian Bixler (who pinch-ran for Cruz) score when Jayson Werth dropped a ball after Brandon Moss singled to right. Then McCutchen hit a two-run home...

News Roundup: Pirates Sign Player From Lithuania

-P- The Pirates have signed two more international players: 18-year-old catcher Dylan Child, from Australia, and 16-year-old pitcher Dovydas Neverauskas, from Lithuania. I have never, ever before heard of a major league team signing a player out of Lithuania.
-P- I missed the game today--I was actually watching the Cubs and Cardinals at Wrigley--but I gather Matt Capps didn't pitch too well. I suppose it's nice to see all those homers. Anyway, Capps now has a ...
