My oh My! Top play of the week for the Seattle Mariners

Morse breaks slump
What’s better than the Mariners finally winning a series this year?
The Mariners winning a series against the Angels, that’s what!
I think the fact that the M’s have really sucked it up so far this year made this series win that much sweeter. That and the fact that they picked up such a big win off of former Mariners pitcher Jason Vargas.
A couple of come from behind wins against a fierce and hated rival like the Angels just adds to it.
Now if these guys can string a few more of these sorts of games together, we just may be on to something finally.
The pitch
After suffering through a set back that lasted a lot longer than most would have thought after breaking his pinkie finger, Michael Morse finally got that home run trot working again.
Jason Vargas had been pretty sharp all game long. With the exception of the long ball given up to Jason Bay the previous inning to tie the game, he had his change up working pretty well today.
Big Mike Morse came up huge with the go-ahead HR Sunday.

Seattle Mariners split with A’s to open 2013

Before the season started, a split against the defending A.L. West champions in Oakland might have been a best-case scenario for the Seattle Mariners in their opening series. However, after masterfully taking the first two games of the series, it seemed like a little bit of a letdown as the Mariners now find themselves at 2-2 and heading to the Windy City for three with the White Sox. The Mariners got off to a blazing start holding the A’s to one run in the first two games but Oakland’s bats turned the tables in Games 3 and 4 winning 6-2 and 8-2.
That New 1-2 Punch. The beginning of your rotation is never in doubt if you send a Cy Young winner in his prime to the mound. Felix Hernandez guided the Mariners to an Opening Day victory with a 2-0 shutout of Oakland on Monday. Hernandez went 7.2 innings before turning it over to the bullpen allowing three hits and striking out eight. The question was the new No. 2 starter replacing Jason Vargas, Hisashi Iwakuma. Iwakuma, who wasn’t...

Seattle Mariners - Examining Mike Morse

Mike Morse debuted with Seattle at shortstop during the 2005 season. Four seasons after leaving the Northwest, Morse returns all of 50 pounds heavier, regarded as one of the top sluggers in baseball.

A sarcastic reponse to the Mariners Mike Morse trade

Team Jaso
It was reported that the Seattle Mariners have added another first baseman/DH by acquiring Mike Morse from the Washington Nationals for catcher John Jaso.
There was also something else about it being a three-way trade, but no one seems to care about that.
Who cares about the Athletics? After all, they only won the division last year. It’s not like we sent our best everyday catching option to them or anything. Inner division trades sometimes hurt the most.
Here are three things that I admire about the trade:
More Power
What I love about this trade is that Mike Morse actually knows how to hit. In limited at bats, he outperformed most of the Mariners’ offensive staff.
Seattle hit just about every social media platform telling us that Morse hit .291 with 18 home runs in only 108 games. As a former Mariner, it seems like Morse is even happy about coming to Seattle, which is not the norm these days.
Of course, last year John Jaso was happy to come to the Mariners.
See what that got him?
Consistency

Nats' Mike Morse has a sweet car

Since we are clearly in the last days of the Mike Morse Era in DC, we should probably savor each Tweet like it could be his last (as a Nat). And so, let us savor the photos Mike Morse Tweeted of his car parked in his driveway in Florida on Monday night after he spent the weekend in Washington for Ryan Zimmerman's wedding. Now head on over to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe's mail bag to read some some of the trades Red Sox fans have concocted for Morse...
Morse strongly opposes being a DH

There is a problem for any American League team that intends to acquire Nationals left fielder Mike Morse and use him often as a designated hitter.

Morse strongly opposes being a DH, according to major-league sources.

The issue, sources say, will carry weight for some AL clubs. Morse is "not a very gifted defender" and would better fit certain teams as a DH, according to one rival executive who leans heavily on advanced metrics.

Trades sometimes turn on such details.

And Morse, 30, is likely to be traded now that the Nationals have reached agreement with free-agent first baseman Adam LaRoche on a two-year, $24 million contract.

Jayson Werth, Denard Span and Bryce Harper will be the Nationals' outfielders. Morse, who would have replaced LaRoche at first, is without a starting role.

Teams value Morse's right-handed power; his OPS in the past four seasons is .857. But his lack of durability is a concern for some -- he has appeared in more than 102 games in a season only once in his career

Orioles Rumors: Baltimore a Fit for Nationals’ Mike Morse?

The Orioles and Nationals could potentially match up for a
trade that would send slugger Mike Morse from Washington to Baltimore in
exchange for a package built around a left-handed reliever, reports Dan Kolko
of MASN Sports.

The Orioles strike me as one team that could be a good
match, given their need for a middle-of-the-order bat and Morse's ability to
play left field, first base or DH. Baltimore's roster is stocked with
left-handed relief types (Brian Matusz, Troy Patton and Rule 5 pick T.J.
McFarland are currently on the 40-man), giving Rizzo and Orioles executive vice
president of baseball operations Dan Duquette some options in negotiations.

Morse would become expendable if the Nationals are able to
re-sign first baseman Adam LaRoche. Washington would then be able to shop the
first baseman/outfielder to help fill other areas of need, most noticeably
left-handed relief help.

The Orioles have several lefties in the bullpen, while they...

Where Michael Morse's home run crash-landed tonight in Arizona

Another game, another monster home run in a dome by Mike Morse. Last night, it was a 430+ foot bomb at Minute Maid Park. Tonight, that's what, a 425 foot opposite field bomb up there to that concourse? We're just disappointed Morse didn't plop that one into the pool.
More importantly: Morse has a 1 game hitting streak. Thanks Cole Hamels, you a-hole.

Still trying to verify, but the pro-Heat Tweets seem to be a dead giveaway.

And in other crucial Michael Morse news, via his Facebook page, Morse has selected Pat Benatar's "Shadows of the Night" as one of his walkup songs for the upcoming year. Does this mean no more "Take on Me"?:

When we last checked in on Michael Morse in this post-Bryce-Harper-Twitter world, Morse revealed to the world that Davey Johnson knows more about electronics than he does. In an interview with CSN Washington's Kelli Johnson (see below) on Wednesday, Morse talked about his long road to success, his reaction to the arrival of Jayson Werth, and most importantly, how his pre-AB Cobra Snake Technique makes him feel:

"It's called the samurai cobra snake...when I hit I want to feel like I'm a snake coiling up. ... It's like Mike Tyson before he's gonna punch somebody, it's just a real, real strong feel."

Iron Mike Morse. Hope he isn't planning on a face tattoo.

The Cool Story of Michael Morse

Close your eyes if you will and picture Michael Morse in your head. Got it? Okay, does that look like a shortstop? No, right? But that's what he was drafted as way back in 2000 (third round by the White Sox) and that's where he played his first six years of his ten-year minor league career. The easiest thing to state in this entire piece will be that Michael Morse doesn't fit anywhere on the diamond. He was too big as a shortstop. He played some third base. He's played first. He's played in the outfield. In 2006, Morse got a cup of coffee with the Mariners. He played six different positions (if you include DH). There's no real way to hide him. But boy can he mash a baseball! His story is fascinating. He comes from Fort Lauderdale, one of this writer's favorite places on earth. He played for the Davie, Florida high school team, one of the best Florida towns on earth. He was drafted by the White Sox, traded to the Mariners and traded to the Nationals strai...
