On a day when AN played like the A's did (AN is back up now; after some SB Nation tweaking), it was a small wonder that a loss was the ultimate outcome. This was not the A's best game of the year, and I understand that it's hard to play in September for a club that is out of the race, but we deserve better than what the team gave...

Great Scott! Hairston Slams Mariners As Much As We've Slammed Him

The recap itself is pretty simple: Scott Hairston, AN's favorite whipping boy lately, endeared himself to the faithful with a towering grand slam in the 7th inning that turned a 2-1 deficit into a 5-2 win. The grand slam came off a right-hander, reliever Shawn Kelley, and made a winner out of Gio Gonzalez, who had just finished 7 IP and left the game trailing -- only to be returned the winning pitcher. Other observations on the game:

Open Thread: Game 128 - A's at Angels (Cont.)

After three full innings, the A's lead 5-1 over the Angels, on the back of a 2-run home run by Scott Hairston, a 2-run single through the infield by Kurt Suzuki, and a sacrifice fly by Mr. Jack Cust. Meanwhile, Brett Tomko gave up his alloted solo home run, and is hoping to keep his streak going as a member of the green and gold.

Scott Hairston Traded to Oakland A's for Two Minor League Pitchers and a PTBNL

The A's always seem to try and get a jump on the trading deadline. Today is no different. The A's decided to acquire Scott Hairston from the San Diego Padres today for Ryan Webb, Craig Italiano and a PTBNL.

I like this deal a lot. It gives the A's a very good outfielder under control until 2011. It also affords the A's the flexibility to move Matt Holliday when the time and the right deal comes along. And if it doesn't come along, ...

In return, the Padres received minor league pitchers Ryan Webb and Craig Italiano in addition to a player to be named later. Hairston is expected to join the A's Monday in Boston.
