Fall/Winter League Update for 11/9/2009

It's been a week since I did one of these, so all stats are from November 2-8, unless otherwise noted.
In Arizona:

Lorenzo Cain went 5-for-12 with two walks, scored twice, drove in two runs and stole three bases, raising his AFL line to .259/.403/.296. He still has just two extra base hits in 66 PAs.
Taylor Green went 1-for-3 with a walk and scored a run. He's hitting .200/.364/.200 in 43 PAs.
Jonathan Lucroy went 2-for-7 with a double and drove in two runs. He's hitting...

The Dodgers and Short-Term Panic

For 22 years, the Giants have been able to say, "if not us, then at least not them." It’s usually of little consolation, but it’s better than being inconsolable. For a couple of decades, the Giants haven’t had to watch a parade down Sunset Boulevard. Or do they call it "The Sunset Boulevard?" No matter. We haven’t had to watch Tommy Lasorda gurgle something vile while holding a trophy above his head. That’s…something, at least.
And...

Giants claim Castillo off waivers

According to the Sun-Sentinel, the San Francisco Giants have claimed Jose Castillo off waivers and that the Florida Marlins have decided not to pull him back. The non-move of pulling Castillo back, to me is not to much of a surprise. Castillo has never been the greatest with his bat .256 career average with 33 homers and 181 homers over 4 seasons. His strength has always been his defense at the hot corner, which is something the Giants are looking for.

Report: Jorge Cantu to Sign With Marlins

It appears the Marlins are set on stockpiling 3B talent to replace Miguel Cabrera's power. The Marlins inked Jose Castillo to a contract in December and now have inked Jorge Cantu to a deal as well to compete for the starting gig. MLB is reporting?

MLB.com has learned from a Major League Baseball Players Association source that the Marlins reached agreement on Thursday with Cantu on a one-year contract worth $500,000, plus incentives that could tack on another $100,000 based on plate ...

Transaction Matter: Marlins Sign Jose Castillo

While no one is going to come in and replace Miguel Cabrera's offensive production, the Marlins have begun the search of finding his replacement. At this point it looks like any warm body who can somewhat play is going to get a chance. After reading about a rumor of the Marlins signing both Jose Castillo and Jorge Cantu from a reader on MB.com, I became skeptical. As of yesterday, it was official. The Marlins signed ex Pittsburgh Pirate utility infielder Jose Castillo to a one year contra...
