The Phillies are losing the third-highest total of veteran minor leaguers to free agency, according to Baseball America. We also look ahead to possible players exposed to the Rule 5 draft. Recently-promoted Joe Savery won his second start for Lehigh Valley (AAA), improving to 2-0, with a 2.45 ERA, at that level. Don't get overly excited by those gaudy stats. A Small Sample Size Alert is necessary when looking at any numbers, here, as the rest of the stats indicate that Savery hasn't been very effective. The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (AAA) beat the Columbus Clippers on Tuesday, 4-2. Gustavo Chacin (the Machine?) had a strong start, improving to 6-3, with a 3.45 ERA. Chacin (pictured, in 2006 WBC!) went six innings, allowing one run, on four hits (three walks/two strikeouts). Jason Donald returned to the lineup, at SS, and was 2 for 4, with a double. (Hopefully, that helped Donald's trade value.) The Reading Phillies (AA) imploded in the late innings, losing 12-1, to the Portland Sea Dogs....

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (AAA) avoided a series sweep by the Charlotte Knights, with a 4-3 victory, on Thursday. Starter Gustavo Chacin surrendered six hits and three walks, over six innings, but allowed only a pair runs. Michael Taylor, in his eighth game at the AAA level, went 3 for 4, with a pair of singles, and a solo homer. Taylor has a .946 OPS, in 28 ABs for the FeHogs. The Venezuelan southpaw spent spring training with the Washington Nationals and was released March 31. Prior to the start of the 2007 season, the GNUru identified the Top 10 Pitchers (http://www.thegnuru.com/content/view/39/27/) that were being touted by the big boys of fantasy baseball (CBS Sportsline, Yahoo, ESPN, etc.) as sleeper and breakout picks. These players were thought to be "Sexy Picks" and many were draft higher than expected due to their perceived value. Now that the season is at the midpoint, the GNUru is here to look back and grade himself with either a thumbs up or a thumbs down. You're not going to get that kind of evaluation over at the big boys!

Here at Sportable, an athlete getting a DUI earns them an automatic article, no questions asked. This week's moron is Gustavo Chacin, pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays. Chacin was arrested early Friday morning in Tampa Bay and charged with a DUI after registering a blood-alcohol content of .15. He posted his $500 bond and stumbled on his way.
