Seahawk Talk - Midweek Report - Roster Shuffle

The feeling around the Hawks is a little somber it was announced yesterday the starting guard Rob Sims would be placed on the injured reserve and would miss the remainder of the season after tearing a pectoral muscle in Sunday's loss against the Bills.
The Coach's were in no mood to let these injuries be an excuse for this team to allow loses to pile up:
"In talking to the team, I emphasized that you haven't earned a spot for life," Holmgren said Monday, referring to the fluidity of the 53-man roster. "You have to earn it every week."
Mike Holmgren followed up this comment with action yesterday releasing punter Ryan Plackemeier and replacing him with former Packers punter Jon Ryan.
In my Week 1 Recap, I singled out his performance saying "Ryan was nothing short of awful, three terrible punts handed the Bills a short field and he missed a key tackle on Parrish that cost the Hawks a punt return Touchdown. He just has to be more consistent than that, big plays like opposing teams returning punts are going to happen but an NFL punter, punting three times short of thirty yards shanking punts out of bounds before any return should and can not!"
Then to make room for the return from suspension of Rocky Bernard and Jordan Kent, fan favorite rooke running back Justin Forsett and Jordan Kent were released, both may be signed to the practice roster assuming they clear waivers. Not a surprise for Jordan who had a very bad outing against the Bills "he looked outright lost, practice roster material". But it is a bit of a surprise for Jordan who many thought had done enough in pre-season to get a shot if only on special teams.
Also, the team agreed to contract terms with wide receiver Billy McMullen, this is not yet official expect a press release spme time today. The 6 foot 4 inch Mcmullen beat out 5 others the Hawks brought in for workouts: Samie Parker, Mark Bradford, Davale Ellis, Mike Haas and Michael Gasperson. Billy has caught 45 passes in four seasons and was out of the league last season but did tryout for the Skins this year.
"It's not the best way to do it, but we haven't got much of a choice right now," Holmgren said Monday, when asked about a newly signed receiver. "It's possible if you get a veteran that's played a little bit."
It's also quite possible after Kent failed miserably with his shot that Micheal Bumpus may get his, he looked very good against the Raiders in pre-season but this is really the only action he has seen, thus far.
I will continue to keep you posted as more develops…

Seahawks defeat Redskins due to Marcus Trufant's two INT's late in 4th

The Seattle Seahawks spent most of the opening round of the playoffs trailing the inspired Washington Redskins. While trailing 13-0, the Seahawks finally got on the board quickly and scored 14 straight to take the lead, and then relied on their defense and Marcus Trufant to seal the victory. Trufant picked off Todd Collins twice and returned both of them for touchdowns, and then Jordan Babineaux picked off Collins' third INT and returned it for a TD. The Seahawks will now travel to Lambeau Field to face the Green Bay Packers and the resurgent Brett Favre.
