Which Schools’ Alumni Got The Most Technical Fouls In The 2012-2013 NBA Season?

Every year, it seems like it’s the same guys getting called for technical fouls in the NBA. Dwight Howard and Rasheed Wallace come to mind as perennial favorites to lead the league in technical fouls assessed, as they often can’t control themselves when talking to officials.
But are there any trends regarding which schools produce players with anger problems? We ran a quick set of statistics to determine which colleges’ alumni were given the most technical fouls during the 2012-2013 season. Without further ado, here are the findings:
First, a few notes – then we’ll get to the top ten.

Four of the top ten players leading the league in technical fouls assessed did not go to college.
Alumni of 87 schools were given at least one tech in the 2012-2013 season.
Kentucky’s DeMarcus Cousins led the league this year with 17 techs total.
We realize that the more players a program has in the NBA, the more likely they are to be on this list. Fully acknowledged.

10. Xavier – 18 technical fouls...

Kentucky Wildcats 2013 recruiting class will face enormous expectations

With six McDonald’s All-Americans on their way to Lexington, it is pretty obvious as to why the Kentucky Wildcats have the number one recruiting class in 2013. In fact, you can make an argument that the group of Julius Randle, Andrew and Aaron Harrison, Dakari Johnson, James Young, and Marcus Lee might be the best recruiting class of all time. Wherever they rank on that list, one thing is for certain; this freshmen class will face an incredible amount of pressure with such high expectations placed upon this group.

“Sure, there’s pressure,” point guard recruit Andrew Harrison confessed when I asked him about it at the McDonald’s All-American Game media day.
“When you’re a great player and you have a bunch of great teammates at a great basketball tradition school, there’s going to be pressure but we look forward to that. That’s why we went to Kentucky.”
Andrew’s twin brother Aaron added, “We just want to go out there and prove that we’re the best. Everybody’s saying we’re

Kentucky Players Continue To Give Back To Reese’s Resources

It is always great to hear about college basketball players who volunteer at local schools, visit children in hospitals, and participate in other fantastic community events. At the University of Kentucky, these good deeds are passed down the line and the Wildcats continue to make differences in the lives of children for years.

Kentucky is not only rich in basketball tradition, but has a great history of community service as well. The latest example involves a special 16 year-old boy from Nicholasville, Kentucky, who dreams of becoming Kentucky’s next walk-on. He’s also the heart of a foundation that hits home for him and his family.
When he was two years-old, Reese Kemp was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, around the same time he lost his father. Cystic fibrosis is a disease that causes buildup of mucus in the lungs and digestive system — this disease is life-threatening and currently has no cure.

Hardwood Paroxysm’s and friend of Red’s Army Ananth Pandian caught-up with Antoine Walker aka “Employee #8″ at Concepts’ Adidas “Real Deal” release on Tuesday night. AP talked with ‘Toine about Adidas bringing the shoe back, the recent success of the UK Wildcats and how he was received by fans in Boston:
So adidas brought back your shoe, the Real Deal. How do you feel about your shoe coming back into the market?
I love it because it was my favorite adidas shoe that I ever played in throughout my career. I thought it was the best looking, lightest shoe that I ever wore and also, I had my best statistical year wearing the Real Deal. (Ed Note: I believe Walker is referring to his 2000-2001 season where he averaged 23.4 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 5.5 apg, and shot 41% from the field) So it was real good to me and I’m happy it got re-released.
It was great to see the warm reception from the Antoine Walker fans tonight. How is it being back in Boston?

Blake Griffin nearly triple-doubles; Eric Bledsoe fills stat sheet (video)

Blake Griffin just missed Saturday's triple-double club: 24 points (10-19 FG, 4-5 FT), eight rebounds and 10 assists. He added four steals in his 38 minutes -- and, of course, some highlight-reel dunks.

Eric Bledsoe continued his strong play in Chris Paul's absence. The ex-Kentucky Wildcat scored 11 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished five dimes (including a gem to Griffin) to go with two assists and a block in 34 minutes.

Bledsoe (26 percent owned) should be owned in all leagues as long as Chris Paul (kneecap) is out.

Our Epic Fantasy College Hoops Tournament Continues: Working Our Way Towards The Final Four

What started out as a brief post analyzing which college hoops programs have produced the best current talent has morphed into a crazy tournament.
In this post, we go through the first round matchups on the way to our epic fantasy Final Four.
Once again, thanks so much for your comments, tweets, and e-mails that have helped us to completely fill out this tournament and not leave anyone out.

If you need a refresher of the rosters, click here.
A few quick comments before we get to the game-by-game analysis:
Marquette – In or Out?
A few of you noted that Marquette could field a pretty decent seven-man squad that would definitely compete with the bottom seeds. While this is true, and Dwyane Wade would definitely be an exciting entry into the tournament, they still only fielded seven players, four of which were pretty downright weak (Wake Forest only had seven as well…but they had two all-time greats.)
So, Marquette misses the tournament by a hair. Even if they had been a low seed, they...

Samford coach disparages UK team

Kentucky basketball has had its success under John Calipari, reaching the Elite 8, Final Four and winning a National Championship in his three seasons as head coach. The 2012-’13 Kentucky team, however, is not playing up to the level of Calipari’s previous Kentucky teamsThe Wildcats are currently unranked after losing three games (Duke, Notre Dame and Baylor). A consensus top 5 preseason team, Kentucky was clearly over-hyped from the get-go having not a single returning starter from last season’s National Championship team.Tuesday night’s match-up with Samford was not supposed to be a tough contest, which is wasn’t, Kentucky who won by 32 points.
Kentucky may have historic draft class

Kentucky will travel to New Orleans with one acceptable outcome; cut down the nets, or bust. But even if they go bust during the Final Four, they're likely to make history a few months later.

That's because all five starters for the Wildcats are ticketed for the first round in June's NBA draft. Freshman phenoms Anthony Davis and Michael-Kidd Gilchrist could be the first teammates to be selected 1-2 in draft history. Kentucky also has an outside chance of topping its own 2009 team and producing six first-rounders. In terms of overall talent level and athleticism, this Kentucky roster is breathing rare air.

Who are these sensational six?

The journey of 6-foot-2 freshman Marquis Teague has been inundated with peaks and valleys, but his ever-improving polish at the controls has propelled Kentucky to another level. A 23-point-per-game scorer in high school, Teague arrived at UK with a shoot-first mindset. He struggled to find the appropriate balance between running the show, finding his own offense

Georgia-Kentucky Preview

Kentucky will honor its two seniors before the final game at Rupp Arena this season. Whether several underclassmen, including freshman standout Anthony Davis, are playing their last game in Lexington remains to be seen.

Davis and the top-ranked Wildcats will look to win their 21st straight when they host Georgia on Thursday night.

Having clinched the SEC regular-season title, Kentucky is setting its sights on securing the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA tournament. The Wildcats (28-1, 14-0), who have been No. 1 in the AP poll for six straight weeks, haven't lost since a one-point defeat at Indiana on Dec. 10.

Davis scored a career-high 28 points on 10-of-11 shooting in Kentucky's 83-74 win over Vanderbilt on Saturday. Davis also had 11 rebounds and five blocked shots, helping Kentucky claim its 45th SEC regular-season championship.

A Six-Pack Of Thoughts On Saturday's North Carolina-Kentucky Game

One of the biggest complaints about my college basketball coverage here at Aaron Torres Sports goes a little something like this: Geez Aaron, all you ever do is talk about Kentucky!! You love them. You’re a closet fan. Why don’t you and John Calipari just go get married or something!
Ok, so maybe no one has actually called me out on that last one. But the first three are definitely in play.
But with that, let’s get one thing straight: I’m not a Kentucky fan, I’m a UConn fan. A big one actually. As a matter of fact, when UConn and Kentucky get on the court together (which has happened a lot recently), I root for UConn. Every…single…time. Promise.
Of course with that said, it doesn’t mean that I can’t have respect for Kentucky, because frankly, I do. The truth is, I find the program and the fans fascinating, and most importantly, I actually like John Calipari a lot. I know that sounds blasphemous, but to quote every 16-year-old girl in America, "Whatever, I don't care what...

The Top 10 Non-Conference Games In Rupp Arena History

The above image is from Kentucky’s inaugural game at Rupp Arena. The Wildcats hosted the Wisconsin Badgers on November 27th, 1976 and the UK came away with a 72-64 victory to kick off what would be one of the nation’s best homecourt advantages. Tomorrow at noon Kentucky will play North Carolina in their 222nd non-conference game at Rupp Arena. And with both teams being ranked in the top 5 of the AP Poll, the game is being hyped to be one of the best in the Rupp Arena era. So that got me to thinking about past great game at Rupp Arena.
