FSU loses 2 transfers, Wiggins decision on the horizon

What’a happening down in Tallahassee? Suddenly it’s the place not to be.
Shooting guard Terry Whisnant II is taking his talents elsewhere and is leaving Florida State. This comes on the heels of small forward Terrance Shannon bolting for VCU.
From Tallahassee.com:

“I’m transferring because I feel like I need to be in a better situation as far as playing time,” Whisnant said. “I want to go somewhere where I can showcase my skills in an up-tempo style of game.”

Known as a three-point specialist, Whisnant started 15 games as a sophomore this past season, but was benched after an embarrassing loss to Wake Forest. He barely sniffed the court after the benching. On the season, he averaged just 5.2 points per game, connecting on 36-percent of his threes.
The Cherryhill, North Carolina native is choosing between Coastal Carolina and East Carolina.
For Seminoles fans, this will continue the “Andrew Wiggins is coming” rumors. Both Shannon and Whisnant’s playing time would have been effective by

Terrance Shannon leaves the FSU basketball program

According to CBS Sports’ Jeff Goodman, power forward Terrance Shannon is leaving Florida State and headed to VCU. Since he has graduated, he will be allow to play this coming season.
This comes as a bit of a surprise. I didn’t even know Shannon was considering leaving the Seminoles.
A long, athletic big man, Shannon has struggled to stay healthy while in Tallahassee. This past season, he missed 14 games and never cracked the starting lineup, averaging 8.3 PPG.
At the very least, because of his athleticism and length, he should fit nicely into Shaka Smart’s full-court press.
As for Florida State, I’m not sure I’m willing to call this a big loss, but certainly surprising. As of now, he was going to have a legit shot to start his senior season.
Of course, this departure is going to led a lot of people to speculate regarding Andrew Wiggins. Think about it, Shannon has no reason to stay if he thinks (knows) Wiggins is coming to Florida State, thus taking some of his playing time.

Report: FSU forward Terrance Shannon transferring to VCU

One of Florida States top forwards is transferring.

Terrance Shannon will transfer to VCU, according to CBSSports.com. Shannon has missed significant playing time the past two seasons with shoulder and neck injuries, but when healthy he is a physical, aggressive player in the low post that can rebound and play defense well.

Shannon averaged 7.9 points and 5.6 rebounds last season, playing 20 games before suffering a neck injury that kept him out for all but a few minutes the rest of the season. He played in just seven games in 2011-12 before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury.

The 6-foot-8, 240-pound Shannon graduated from Florida State last weekend, allowing for a transfer without penalty. Shannon will have one year of eligibility at VCU, which went 27-9 last season and lost to Michigan in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Florida State, which went 18-16 last season and lost in the first round of the NIT, will miss Shannons presence inside. But the Seminoles have been working to develop a t

For 'Noles, ACC tourney is only way to Dance

TALLAHASSEE, Fla A year ago, Florida State was the darling of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament -- the team that broke the Duke-North Carolina stranglehold and brought home Florida States first ACC basketball title.
As the ACC tourney starts Tuesday, the Seminoles are clearly the longshot. FSU has few veterans, with just one scholarship senior in Michael Snaer. One junior, guard Ian Miller, is playing through a severe foot injury. Another junior, forward Terrance Shannon, suffered a neck injury and coach Leonard Hamilton has held him out of the past two games for precautionary reasons.
This is far from the senior-filled roster of 2011-12. The Seminoles (17-14, 9-9 ACC) will go as far as their freshmen will take them this time when they open ACC tournament play on at 9 p.m. against Clemson (13-17, 5-13), which has lost nine of its last 10 games.
The more games we play the better its going to be for our team, Hamilton said. We just dont want to give up on the idea that we can be one of those stories. We

FSU's Shannon returns at UNC from neck injury

Florida State forward Terrance Shannon returned to the lineup Sunday against North Carolina after being out since January with a neck injury.

Shannon was hurt Jan. 19 when he appeared to hit his head against the leg of Virginia's Nick Nolte during a scramble under the basket. He was carried off the court on a stretcher and taken to a hospital that night, and coach Leonard Hamilton said last month the 6-foot-8 redshirt junior could be out for the year.

Shannon made his return in the opening half against the Tar Heels after missing 11 straight games. He was still the team's leading rebounder at 6.3 boards per game coming into Sunday.

FSU's Terrance Shannon could be out a while

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. Terrance Shannon is very sore after he suffered a neck sprain in Saturdays loss at Virginia, Florida State assistant coach Stan Jones said.

Shannon fell to the floor after hitting his head on Evan Noltes hip while going for a loose ball late in the game. The junior was placed on a backboard and then a stretcher.

A 6-foot-8 forward who is the teams leading rebounder, Shannon stayed in a hospital in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday night with Florida State assistant coach Corey Williams, but doctors allowed Shannon to make the trip back to Tallahassee on Sunday afternoon.

Theyre still doing some tests to see if there was any bruising to the spinal cord, Jones said. In regards to his playing status, that still remains to be seen.

Jones said that Shannon has a lot of pain but has full mobility. But he later admitted that Shannon could be out for what looks like an extended period of time.

Florida State player taken off basketball court on stretcher

via Tallahassee :

Florida State forward Terrance Shannon is carried off on a stretcher after being injured in the second half. Shannon averages 8.9 points and 6.5 rebounds for 10-7 FSU. It’s scary and unusual to see college basketball players get wheeled off the court like this — then head straight to the nearest hospital for more testing.
It was a scary sight for players, coaches and fans.
With 3:59 left to play in Saturday’s 56-36 loss to Virginia, Florida State forward Terrance Shannon jammed his head into the side of Cavaliers forward Evan Nolte’s body and fell to the floor.
After laying motionless for nearly 10 minutes, Shannon was placed on a stretcher and transported to the University of Virginia Medical Center.
“He has a neck sprain,” Dr. Bill Thompson, FSU’s team doctor, told the Democrat on Saturday night. “And he has improved since the time of the game to the time we got to the hospital. And I’ll know further in the morning.”

Florida State player carried off on stretcher

Florida State's Terrance Shannon was carried off on a stretcher late in the Seminoles' game at Virginia on Saturday.

Shannon went down with 3:58 remaining after appearing to hit his head against the thigh or hip of Virginia's Evan Nolte during a scramble under the Florida State basket. He remained on the floor motionless for nearly 10 minutes as first trainers and then paramedics attended to him.

He eventually was loaded onto a stabilizing backboard and then onto a stretcher and taken to the hospital.

Seminoles trainer Stan Lunt said it appeared that Shannon had a ''burner in the neck area, and he has some tingling and numbness in his extremities,'' prompting doctors to recommend he be taken to the hospital and checked out as a precaution. Lunt left shortly thereafter for the hospital.
