Mini-Camp Ends; Optimism Abounds

The Packers wrapped up their last offseason workout yesterday before the start of training camp, and guess what?
They're thinking Super Bowl.

Nick Barnett:
"We definitely feel that it's a realistic achievement for us with the guys we have in the locker room and what we achieved last year."
"I'm actually looking forward to training camp. I'm tired of this mini-camp, going out there practicing with no pads on, everybody's trying to be tough with no pads on. I'd rather just get the pads on so we can play."
"I think we've made a lot of improvements this offseason. The biggest thing is we've got the same guys, but a year of experience for us, the attendance level and the participation while the guys were here, I think we've really grown. People say what is a year of experience? Well, it's a year of the same scheme under our belts, able to improve on that scheme and then add more tweaks to it."

Mark Tauscher:
"We have a good football team here. There's more talent here than I think at any point since I've been here. This is a very talented football team."
"I think you want to have high expectations. I think it's good to have that added pressure on you. So am I going to say we need the Super Bowl or bust? I just think we need to come out and play good football and let everything fall into where it's going to fall."
"We're a talented team, and it really just comes down to performance. We have a lot of third-year guys, second-year guys. We have a pretty good thing going here. I don't think it's a situation where we need to sit there and explain everything. Guys understand the magnitude of getting ready for a season. Once you get past that first year, you understand what's expected of you and what's needed to be done."

Head coach Mike McCarthy:
"Our roster, this is the best it's looked since I've been here as far as the names and the talent and the type of people on the board. So I'm very happy with that, the depth of it."
"It's Super Bowl for me every day. I don't operate that way as far as trying to build up a bunch of what I would refer to as false confidence and trying to sell tickets. Fortunately we don't have that problem here. Our tickets are sold out forever. As far as our roster, with the names on the board, the talent level on our depth chart board, it's the best that it has looked since I've been here, especially at this time of year. The amount of work that we were able to get done from March until today has been the most productive that we've been able to get done in my three years. What does that lead to? We're trying to win every game, so I don't believe in predictions. I don't really get caught up in them. Once again, we're trying to win every single football game, and this team has a team that has the ability to be something special and we felt that way coming off our offseason last year. We felt good about the direction we were going. I think our challenges are going to be a lot different this year. The obstacles that we're going to have to get over are going to be a lot different. We just have to go out week in and week out and find ways to win games. That will be our focus. That's the one thing I can promise you."
"I'll say this; really this time of year is about improvement. It's a teaching and learning environment, so as far as getting up and saying something that needs to be said in an important time, those are things in my experiences that happens more in season. So the opportunities really haven't presented themselves for that. The fact that the veterans that have not been here in the past have been here, so you can take that as a sign of them trying to lead by example in participating. I'm sure there are signs of it but nothing that just jumps out at you that you can say this particular veteran is doing more than he has in the past."

Donald Driver:
"We want to win, which is why you see the guys doing what they're doing. Most of us are in here every day. Off-season workout program. (Organized team activities). Lifting. Getting treatment. Guys are doing everything they can do to prepare for this season."
"My confidence is better this season that it was last year. It gets better and better, and I think that's what you have to say. We have a very talented team, it's just a matter of everybody going out there and doing their jobs. If everybody does their job, then we'll be OK."
I've got to say this: I really like their tone. Things are looking up for training camp and 2008.

Packer Dad Finds New Use For Duct Tape

It's been well documented that I'm a Packers fan, and with the success they've enjoyed this season it's been a fun ride. But every year, someone has to do something to reinforce the redneck, backwoods, hillbilly stereotype that hovers over every Packer Backer.

OK, I think Jim Quirk deserves to be docked a game check for trying to choke out the Packers Nick Barnett.

Whatever...

What I am pissed about is why do these guys make $8,150 per game?!?!? I am sure 80% of us could do just as good a job as those clowns.
