Monday Morning Hangover: Bengals Camp Opens Without Rivers

The holdout of LB Keith Rivers could last for more than a few days if the issue is the percentage increase versus last year at the slot. LB Jerod Mayo at 10 got just a 6% hike, but some above the 9 spot have gotten as much as a 20% kick. The two slots above [...]

Thursday Reads: Rivers Signing Closer?

The New England Patriots have signed LB Jerod Mayo, the 10th overall selection in the 2008 draft, and the guy taken right after Bengals first round pick LB Keith Rivers. That helps to establish the slot and raises hopes that Rivers will get into camp on time.

NFL All-Food Team

With the appearance of about 300 Jerod Mayo jokes lately, some funny, some not, we've decided to make the best team possible using just players whose name contain a food word. We were tempted to use old-time players like OJ Simpson, but we limited it to current players only. Please let us know how we can improve the team by dropping us an email or leaving a comment.

Meet the Parents: Mayo Style

May 1st marked the day when Jerod Mayo was formally introduced to the Patriot family. Sort of like meeting your girlfriend's parents for the first time, first impressions are incredibly important. A careless word or two in your first few days as a Patriot can earn you the scorn of an entire locker room of veterans.

Patriots Bread and Butter: Wheat-ley and Mayo

To go with the linebacker they drafted at number ten, Jerod Mayo, the Patriots selected Terrence Wheatley (S, Colorado). Wheatley is a quick-twitch athlete that is in the in the same mold as former Patriot Asasnte Samuel -- small, agile, great ballskills and an average tackler. That being said, Wheatley has some durability issues with his wrist, as he has had multiple surgeries. His size and strength will probably relegate him to nickel coverage, at least to start his career.

Patriots D: Extra Mayo Please

With the 10th pick, the Patriots picked Jerod Mayo (6-2/230) from the University of Tennessee. Mayo combines athletecism with good football instincts, and should be able to start for a starting job inside right away. He has shown fluidness in coverage that will be a welcome addition to the linebacking corps. He struggles at times to fight off guards in the running game, but Vince Wilfork should be able to protect him. He can and will deliver the big hit, as well as being a very reliable tackler.
