The Seattle Mariners signed infielder Alex Cintron, who was designated for assignment by the Nationals on May 20, to a minor league contract today. Cintron will join Triple-A Tacoma.
Cintron, played in 21 games before getting designated for assignment. He mainly plays second base, shortstop, and third base. He should serve as a utility man if he gets called up to the big leagues.
He only hit .077 as a member of the Washington Nationals.
This should mean 2B/SS Josh Wilson will be leavi...

2009 MLB Preview: #29 Washington Nationals

Offseason Movement: Perhaps the Nats’ biggest addition was 1B/OF Adam Dunn, who will add some pop to the lineup, as well as a fair amount of strikeouts. Washington also acquired OF Josh Willingham and LHP Scott Olsen in a trade with the Marlins and signed free agents Daniel Cabrera, Alex Cintron and Javier Valentin. In the deal to land Willingham and Olsen, the Nationals agreed to send 2B Emilio Bonifaci, INF Jake Smolinski and RHP P.J. Dean to Florida.

Top Prospect: Jordan Zimme...

Peter Schmuck and Rock Kubatko had posts on their respective blogs on how many ex-Orioles have found a home 40 miles south on the Parkway in Washington, D.C. As most fans know, the Washington Nationals are a team that lost 102 games last year and are trying to find a way to the top in the ...

All Points Bulletin For A Shortstop...

In watching the Orioles this season, it was fairly evident to everyone that the shortstop position was nothing short of a black hole at the plate and at times in the field (depending who was there at the time). When Andy MacPhail traded Miguel Tejada last off-season for five players from the ...

Give Jose a break.....

No, this isn't a post about how the rest of the NL east plays the Mets every night like a playoff game because they've been outraged by Jose Reyes antics. I only have one thing to say about that situation, if you're going to bring that type of heat on yourself and team, then you better be able to shut them up. Otherwise, tone it down and not because anyone tells you too but for your own good..... This is a post about the make-up of the bench, I believe it has been mis-constructed ...

Giles no show in Vegas

After a whole off-season of talk about Marcus Giles becoming a Los Angeles Dodgers, it isn't happening. Giles was recently released by the Colorado Rockies after refusing a minor league assignment. The Dodgers, who almost traded for him agreed to a minor league deal with the third baseman earlier today. The plan was for Giles to spend 10 days at AAA-Las Vegas to reacquaint himself with third base and get some more at-bats, then come up to the majors and split time with Rookie Blake DeWitt...

Cubs surprising demotion

The Chicago Cubs finalized their roster today, with a surprising demotion. First, Ronny Cedeno beat out Alex Cintron for the back-up shortstop job. Second, Mike Fontenot beat out Matt Murton for the final outfield spot. Murton is a surprise to myself as he was in constant trade talk with the Texas Rangers and was just an all out solid player for last years NL Central division winners. Lets look at both of these spring battles and why each made the team.

While The Yankees were pounded the Tampa Bay pitching staff into the ground, the Red Sox bats have gotten hot as well with the White Sox in town.

The Sox with RISP the final three games of series were 13-31 with 28 rbi's, that's getting the job done.
