Kelly Pavlik Announces Retirement From Boxing

Kelly Pavlik escaped the rough streets of Youngstown, Ohio to lead a nice, productive life. Pavlik would like to continue living that life in a healthy manner, so according to ESPN, Pavlik has announced his retirement from the sport of boxing.
Pavlik is quoted as saying that he is concerned about the long-term medical impact of continuing to fight and no longer motivated to get in the ring.
“When you stay in the sport too long you have health problems. That’s a big, big thing for me,” Pavlik said. “I’m not talking about now. I’m talking about in the future. I’m talking about when I’m 55 or 60. What’s gonna happen to me then? Why take any more chances, especially in that sport. It’s a brutal sport and you never know what can happen.
“I won the world title, I defended my title, I was champ for three years and I made good money. Why take the chance of medical problems? That’s a big part of it. I also don’t think the drive is there anymore. I’m moving on to a new chapter in my life

Kelly Pavlik improved his record to 40 (34) - 2 with a Unanimous Decision win against Will Rosisnky, who falls to 16-2. Pavlik sent Rosinsky down in the 2nd round with a short right hand to the point of the chin, but Rosinsky recovered, and continued coming on for the duration. However, Pavlik's size and superior skill and power were more than enough to control the bout.
Official scorecards read 97-92 and 98-92 twice, all for the former middleweight champion. Pavlik suffered a cut over hi...

Kelly Pavlik vs. Will Rosinsky: Round By Round

Boxing After Dark is live on HBO tonight from the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. It's a Top Rank show in store for us, headlined by the Filipino Flash, Nonito Donaire. The co-feature is interesting in its own right, as it pits the comebacking Kelly Pavlik against Will Rosinsky. Bob Papa, Max Kellerman and Roy Jones Jr. are the announce team on hand.Papa takes us through some of Pavlik's roller coaster ride of a career, beginning with his victory over Jermain Taylor and running through his in-ring losses and his personal demons. We also see Kellerman's pre-taped interview with The Ghost, where he answers questions about some of the poor decisions he's made over the past four years or so. He owns up to some of the choices he made, admitting that the things he was doing got out of hand. Pavlik says his family was the driving force in getting him into rehab, though he did not fight it.Kelly also discusses what it's like training in the Robert Garcia camp. He says it's taken him o

Live Kelly Pavlik-Will Rosinsky and (Maybe) Nonito Donaire-Jeffrey Mathebula Round By Round ...

It's freaking hot out there today. But the action in the ring tonight on HBO could be even hotter. Bazinga!Okay, maybe not. There are, however, a couple of good reasons to tune in to Boxing After Dark tonight at 10 pm Eastern time. The first is to see if Kelly Pavlik can keep advancing down the comeback trail by defeating Will Rosinsky. The other is to watch the Filipino Flash, Nonito Donaire, who was approaching must-watch status, then slid back a step, and now is vowing to get back up there again. Follow all that? He'll face off with Jeffrey Mathebula in the main event.Yes, there is some other fights going on tonight too. So if you are occupied with those or perhaps submerged in a pool somewhere trying to beat the heat, you can follow along with us. I'll be liveblogging the Pavlik-Rosinsky fight for sure, and hopefully the Donaire-Mathebula bout too if the first fight ends in a decently short time (hint, hint, Kelly!).All you have to do is visit our home page from your internet-enabled device, fi

Kelly Pavlik crushes 'Jedi' Jaco

Former undisputed middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (38-2, 33 KOs) barely broke a sweat in stopping horribly overmatched Aaron "Jedi" Jaco (15-3, 5 KOs) in the second round of their scheduled 10-round light heavyweight bout.

Jaco, who had only logged one in-ring round in the last 64 months (five years, four months) was hurt by every punch landed, beginning with the first jab from Pavlik. The native of Sarasota, Fla., tried to move, but was clearly just cannon fodder and would hit the canvas at the end of the first round, following a short left hook from the former world titlist.

Pavlik, in his first fight under the guidance of new trainer Robert Garcia, would end the farce with the first punch landed in the second round, a sweeping left hand high up on the head of Jaco.

The battered, semi-retired club fighter would beat the count, but was in no condition to continue. Truthfully, the commission could've saved everyone's time and energy by waving off the contest at the contract signing.

Kelly Pavlik faces 'Jedi' Jaco Saturday

Now based in Oxnard, California and working under new trainer Robert Garcia, Kelly Pavlik (37-2, 32 KOs), version 2.0, will return to the ring this Saturday at the Illusions Theater in San Antonio, Texas as part of the untelevised portion of the Top Rank Live telecast on the Azteca America network.

Pavlik, who has dealt with a variety of personal issues ranging from alcohol addiction to a staph infection, has only fought once in two years and looked flat in his last bout, a majority-decision win, over Alfonso Lopez last May. This will be his first contest under the tutelage of Garcia.

"I'm not nervous, but I do want to look good, so there's a good amount of pressure from that," the former undisputed middleweight champ told Vindy.com. "I know it's just my second fight in two years so I really shouldn't feel that way, but I do."

And if Pavlik wants to look good, he will definitely be up against the right guy on Saturday night.

The Sad Ballad of Kelly Pavlik, Part Whatever - Plus Shoe Shining

Remember back when Kelly Pavlik's trainer and manager got all bent out of shape because evil internet sites were reporting that the Pride of Youngstown needed rehab for substance abuse issues? Despite their indignant stance, the rumors were eventually proven to be correct when Pavlik did, in fact, enter rehab.Sad as it is, Pavlik may not have won the battle with his demons just yet. He was charged with misdemeanor drunken driving earlier this week following a one-car accident near his home in Youngstown. As an isolated incident it may not be smart to read too much into it, but this is now just the latest in a pattern of self-destructive behavior from the former middleweight champ.

Boxing can grant an almost unlimited amount of "second" chances, so Pavlik can't be written off. Maybe the change of scenery from a planned trip out West to train with Robert Garcia will be what he needs to get his head straight. Still, you can't help but wonder if former trainer Jack Loew saw sticking with

Pavlik pleads not guilty to drunken driving

Former middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik has pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor count charging him with driving an all-terrain vehicle while drunk.

The Vindicator newspaper in Youngstown reports Pavlik's attorney, Damian Billak, entered the plea on his behalf in a Mahoning County court. Billak says they look forward to addressing the issues in court.

Deputies say the 29-year-old Pavlik was arrested Wednesday night at his home outside Youngstown after a neighbor reported he crashed the ATV into a telephone pole and lamppost.

Pavlik in January finished two months of alcoholism treatment at the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Earlier this month, trainer Jack Loew announced they had split ways.

Billak says Kelly plans to relocate to California.

A pre-trial hearing is set for Jan. 13.

Pavlik arrested on charge of DUI on ATV

Former middleweight boxing champion Kelly Pavlik was arrested Wednesday night for allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated after he and a friend crashed two ATVs near the boxer's Ohio home.

Pavlik, 29, was nabbed after a neighbor called police and reported that a lamp post on his property and a telephone pole were struck by two men riding large ATVs. The neighbor identified one of the men as Pavlik, according to the report from the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office.

Pavlik acted belligerently while officers interviewed his friend, Daniel Ferreri, about the incident.

The deputy said Pavlik appeared "very intoxicated," and was swearing at him and slurring his words.

The boxer was placed under arrest after refusing a field sobriety test, and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, failure to control a vehicle, and failure to stop after an accident. He also refused to take a Breathalyzer test at the police station, according to police.

He was released on bond early Thursda

Pavlik In Trouble Again, Arrested For DUI

After reports recently of a brand new start for Kelly Pavlik after battling alcoholism, he is once again in trouble as he continues to battle the disease. Pavlik was arrested this morning at his home in Canfield, Ohio and booked on charges of driving under the influence, failing to stop after an accident and failing to maintain control of his vehicle. He was released on bond around 2:00 am.

There has been a bitter split between Pavlik and his long time trainer Jack Loew. It has reported that Pavlik will relocate to California and work with Trainer Of The Year Candidate, Robert Garcia.

Jack Loew has been criticized on more than one occasion and blamed for the former Middleweight Champion's short comings in the ring. Loew went public this week and said that he could no longer defend Pavlik's actions. He said that now that he is no longer part of the team he doesn't have to cover anything up anymore. Loew said that Pavlik's out of the ring antics and alcohol problems are the reasons

Kelly Pavlik Arrested on DUI Charges

In today's rendition of "big name boxers in trouble with the law", former middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik takes center stage. Pavlik was arrested late Wednesday night after crashing an ATV into a lamp post and telephone pole near a neighbor's property, and was brought into the station with several charges including the DUI, failure to control vehicle, and leaving the scene of an accident.

Credit: Tom Casino / Showtime

In Ohio, a DUI charge is actually an OVI, or Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence. The way it went down was that Pavlik and his friend were spotted crashing into the post and pole by the neighbor, who then called the police.
They fled the scene, and police showed up to Pavlik's house, where the damaged ATV was parked out front, and a piece of the lamp post was in the front seat of the ATV! The friend initially tried to claim he drove the vehicle, but eventually it was determined that Pavlik did. Pavlik refused to take the on-site sobriety...

Kelly Pavlik Busted for DUI After ATV Accident & Hitting a Neighbor’s Lamp Post

Put a fork in Kelly Pavlik’s career he is done.
Every time he says he is clean this happens. He had such a promising career, but he simply can’t say sober.
Former middleweight boxing champion Kelly Pavlik bonded out of the Mahoning County jail overnight, facing charges of operating a vehicle while impaired, failure to control and leaving the scene of an accident.
Pavlik, 29, of Canfield, was arrested Wednesday night at his Sugarbush Drive home following an ATV accident. Police say Pavlik smelled of alcohol and was belligerent toward officers investigating the accident. He hit a neighbor’s lamp post, police said.
Police reports say additional charges may be filed.

Kelly Pavlik arrested for DUI, released on bond

Don't call it a comeback! No really, don't.Kelly Pavlik has been in the news recently because of his bitter split with his long time trainer Jack Loew. Well he made headlines again this morning after being arrested at his home in Canfield, Ohio and booked on charges of driving under the influence, failing to stop after an accident and failing to maintain control of his vehicle.Pavlik was released on bond around 2:00 am. There aren't any more details available at this time but looking at the charges I would say that Pavlik was drunk, hit something and didn't bother to stop, hence getting arrest at his house. Just a guess though. This arrest comes just weeks after Jack Loew cut ties with Pavlik after he said he couldn't control the fighter outside of the ring.If you're really quiet you can hear Jack Loew laughing his ass off right now.
