Charles Woodson should forget about returning to ‘The Town’ as a Raider and become a king in the ‘Queen City of the West’ as a Bronco

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports unemployed Future Hall of Famer Charles Woodson is “intrigued” by the idea of returning to Oakland to play for the Raiders. Clipped by the Green Bay Packers in February, the 36-year-old Woodson was taken by Oakland out of the University of Michigan fourth overall in the 1998 draft. Coming off a 4-12 finish in the AFC West, Oakland will struggle again in 2013 and Woodson should avoid reuniting with the Raiders like a plague. On the contrary, receiving a “fair offer” from the Broncos, the 6-foot-1, 202 pound Woodson should quickly relocate to Denver. Although graying … Continue reading →

Report: NFL Considering Pushing NFL Draft Back Until May

ESPN.com via Adam Schefter is reporting that the NFL is set to push the NFL Draft back until at least May 15 for future dates, and moving up the start of the league year to before the Indianapolis scouting combine, according to league and union sources.
NFL and NFLPA are on verge of pushing back draft to May and moving up start of league year to before combine, per sources.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) May 20, 2013

According to reports, the NFLPA is close to allowing the NFL to move the draft to May from April for at least the next three years, according to sources.
Under the current collective bargaining agreement, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell can set the date of the draft without the NFLPA’s approval, although he would prefer to have the union’s blessing to maintain league harmony.
Reports also suggest a conflict in schedule with Radio City Music Hall also led to the switch.

Report: NFL Planning to Move Draft, Begin Free Agency Before Combine in 2014

The NFL schedule is about to change in a big way. Well, the offseason anyway.
The NFL and NFL Players Association are on the verge of changing the timing of the NFL draft and moving the start of the league year, and free agency, ahead of the combine, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
With the new layout, the draft, which is now held annually in the last weekend of April, will move to the middle of May for each of the next three seasons. The initial reasoning behind the move is to avoid a conflict with Easter, which will fall on the final weekend of April in 2014, but it seems the NFL has been hoping to move the draft back for some time now.
The other big change in the NFL offseason calendar would be for the league year and NFL free agency to begin ahead of the scouting combine. The scouting combine took place in the final week of February this offseason with free agency beginning in the second week of March. It’s more likely that the combine will move, along with the draft, into th...

Draft likely moving to May

The NFL draft is about to be moved. At least that's what ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. According to Schefter, the NFL and NFLPA are close to a deal that would move the NFL draft from it's current time in April to May.

The NFLPA will also be getting a carrot of incentive. The start of the league year, and thus free agency, will likely be moved to begin before the scouting combine.

The by-product of the move of the beginning of the league year would occur at the scouting combine. Teams would also use the event as a way to strike deals since the league year would have officially started. That's a big change from the current state of the combine in which teams talk with each other over hypothetical deals that later become reality once the new league year starts.

The overarching idea of re-arranging the league year is simple. Give fans a better opportunity to follow the NFL year round. By bumping the draft later into the offseason, the dead period between the ...

Report: NFL, NFLPA Considering League Calendar Changes

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Twitter, the NFL and NFL Players Association are strongly considering altering the league’s offseason calendar, which will directly affect free agency and the draft.
The current league year, which usually begins around mid-March with free agency and trades, is rumored to be moved up prior to the NFL Combine, generally held in late February. In contrast, the NFL Draft would be pushed back a month to May.
The proposed moves would be done for the fans, so that there is a different headlining event each month of the offseason to help keep fans’ attention up over a longer period of time, as well as create additional revenue.
Schefter also adds the NFL and NFLPA would make these changes for the next three seasons, should they be approved.

Back surgery considered to be minor for Rob Gronkowski

There’s still a chance Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski won’t need to undergo back surgery. But if he does, it will be a minor procedure, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Rob Gronkowski’s back issue considered minor, per source. If he needs surgery it’d be during time frame that he’d be out with arm surgery.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) May 17, 2013

It’s makes me laugh when people consider any type of surgery is minor. I don’t buy that at all. Surgery is never a good thing.
The fact of the matter is that the Pats should be concerned that their young start tight end is falling apart.

Dolphins talk with Adam Schefter

I had the pleasure of doing a little Q&A session with my friend Adam Schefter. Schefter as everyone knows is the ESPN’s top insider and quite frankly the best in the bizz.

Q1) What have you been hearing around the Dolphins stadium upgrade project?

Schefter: The NFL is very use to getting what it wants, it generally finds whatever solution it has to but they do not take no as an answer very often. The Dolphins will make the best viable business decision for the franchise, if that means moving the team to Palm Beach then so be it but if they feel that decision is best for the organization they will find a solution. I believe the Dolphins will find a way to get what they want in the end.

Q2) Will Jonathan Martin be the week 1 starter at LT?

Schefter: I think that is the plan right but it might be a mistake to put it in ink. The thing is with Martin is that you don’t know if he will succeed at the position or not. Does he have pro bowl potential sure but...

Chicago Bears longsnapper and special teams captain Patrick Mannelly got left out today when Adam Schefter reported this fact. It’s tough to blame Schefter for forgetting about a longsnapper from the 1998 draft, but you have to feel bad for Mannelly. Longsnappers are easily the most under-appreciated players in the NFL. For those of you wondering, Mannelly was drafted out of Duke in the 6th round, 189th overall by the Bears.

The Cleveland Browns making calls trying to trade back in Thursday’s NFL Draft.

According to ESPN’s NFL Insider Adam Schefter, The Cleveland Browns are making calls trying to trade back in this years, NFL draft. It depends on what team’s do that are looking for offensive tackles. The Chiefs are reportedly looking at picking, Texas A&M’s Luke Joeckel or Central Michigan’s Eric Fisher with the first overall pick. Then it is up to Philadelphia Eagles or Detroit Lions could take a second tackle (the one who isn’t picked by the Chiefs) in the top five, according to Schefter. If the Miami Dolphins or the San Diego Chargers, see Oklahoma’s Lane Johnson, at the 6th pick, then the Cleveland Browns could hear their phone ring. The Browns may not hear the phone ringing if those tackles are taken with the first 5 picks of the draft. Cleveland is in need of a few quality defensive players. They have a huge hole to fill in their defensive secondary and they are in need of a couple of good line-backers that can help them transition to the 3-4 defense they are turning to t...

Prospects who trashed room ID'd

It was reported that two players at the NFL Combine had trashed a hotel. The report spoke on feces, urine and uneaten food being spread all across the room. Until now, the players hadn’t been identified, but only a week before the draft, the info has leaked. A trashed hotel room at Indy scouting combine that Yahoo reported on belonged to Clemson WR DeAndre Hopkins and Rutgers WR Mark Harrison. — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) April 18, 2013 Very irresponsible by these young men. It may or may not affect their draft stock, but it is something that will be on teams radar.
