Jim Boeheim Rips Knicks Players, Defends Carmelo Anthony

Jim Boeheim loves Carmelo Anthony like a son, so it’s not shock that Boeheim feels the need to stick up for his former Syracuse star anytime he feels like Anthony is wrong criticized.
The New York Post is reporting that Boeheim took to the Syracuse Post-Standard to blast almost every Knicks player except Anthony.
, Boeheim ripped Tyson Chandler, point guards Raymond Felton and Pablo Prigioni and even coach Mike Woodson while trying to defend Anthony.
Boeheim was asked if Anthony can lead the Knicks as constructed to an NBA title, and Boeheim told the paper.
“Not on that team.He did what he can do. He played very well the final game. Everybody’s killing him but Tyson Chandler just didn’t try to catch the ball. He threw him the ball and Tyson Chandler went like this” and the paper said Boeheim dodged in his chair.
[Tyson] was wide open,’’ Boeheim added. “He should have been looking for the ball right here. Kenyon Martin should have been looking for the ball. They both went like this [Boeheim d

Jim Boeheim rips Knicks, defends Carmelo Anthony

After an impressive showing against the Boston Celtics in the opening round of the NBA playoffs, the New York Knicks barely put up a fight against the Indiana Pacers. The team was ice cold offensively throughout most of the series and lost Game 6 on Saturday by a score of 106-99, despite Carmelo Anthony’s 39 points on 15 of 29 shooting.
Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim, who coached Anthony during the Orange’s national championship season in 2003, is not surprised the Knicks were bounced from the playoffs. Simply put, he feels that Carmelo was doing everything by himself.
“Not on that team,” Boeheim told the Syracuse Post-Standard when asked if Anthony can win an NBA title. “He did what he can do. He played very well the final game. Everybody’s killing him but Tyson Chandler just didn’t try to catch the ball. He threw him the ball and Tyson Chandler (dodged it).
Jim Boeheim Thinks Knicks Need to Re-Tool Roster

The end is near for the Knicks. With game five approaching, the Knicks are on the brink of being eliminated in what will be a disappointing end for the second ranked team in the East.
Many thought this was the year for New York. However, Syracuse coaching legend Jim Boeheim thinks that the Knicks need to make roster changes no matter how their season ends.
Boeheim has watched almost every game this year and although Carmelo Anthony was able to put his Syracuse team on his shoulders and carry them to an NCAA Championship in 2003, he thinks this team needs more help than just Anthony.
“I think they’re gonna have to do something down the road to change the roster,” Boeheim said Thursday. “I’m sure there will be a lot of changes for next year. They have a lot of guys that I’m sure are not going to be back. And how they fit guys in and replace those guys is gonna be key I think.”
Boeheim, who knows a thing or two about winning games, thinks that the Knicks need three guys to score in order

Could The ACC Move Its Men’s Basketball Tournament To Madison Square Garden?

Flickr/hutchike
The ACC may not be finished insulting the Big East. The conference began its spring meetings yesterday, and one of the items on the table was the men’s basketball conference tournament – currently being held in Greensboro, North Carolina.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim and Pittsburgh coach Jamie Dixon were both lobbying for the conference to consider Madison Square Garden for its future tournaments.

“Obviously, coach Boeheim and I are excited about New York, but I also know that Greensboro has a strong, strong presence here at these meetings,” Dixon said. “I think [Madison Square Garden] would be the best thing for the conference. I hope that’s the way they’re headed, but I don’t know that it is.”

Today, ESPN’s Brett McMurphy reported that momentum is gaining for the potential move.

Jim Boeheim: The Sappiest Of Saps

The City of Syracuse's first couple, Jim and Juli Boeheim, were spotlighted Wednesday evening at Turning Stone with an event, sponsored by 40 Below, to celebrate Boeheim's 50 years in Central New York.
According to 40 Below's website, the object of the event was to have the Boeheims share stories about their history in Syracuse and where the region is going in the future.
In reality, the event was a way to make James Arthur Boeheim -- know nationally as the biggest curmudgeon in all of college basketball -- out to be a tall, old softy that cares dearly about his wife, the city of Syracuse and the Syracuse basketball program.
Luckily for you, Kim Brown, the Assistant Director for Alumni Programs, Career Services at Syracuse University, was there and Tweeted a lot of it.
Below is the best sample of what Kim and the official 40 Below Twitter account shared of the event, which included Boeheim admitting he's working on a book; queue the: "this might be the final year

Syracuse comedy troupe creates parody song of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ (video)

A sketch comedy troupe based out of Syracuse called “Humor Whore” has done an outstanding job of creating a parody version of the Queen classic “Bohemian Rhapsody” featuring lyrics crafted to address all things related to Syracuse Orange basketball. Fittingly, the song is entitled, “Boeheimian Rhapsody,” a nod to head basketball coach Jim Boeheim’s name. Very clever.
The video for the parody song also attempts to capture the spirit and style of the original video for “Bohemian Rhapsody”:

The Syracuse Post-Standard reports that the entire project took Nick Ferreiro, 19, Samii Ruddy, 21, and Matt Del Greco, 22, about five weeks to create and complete, from writing the lyrics to filming the video. Well done, gents.

Video: Jim Boeheim snaps again

After Syracuse lost to Michigan Saturday night, Jim Boeheim snapped at CBSSports.com's Gregg Doyel in the post-game press conference and, well, the exchange was interesting.

For what it's worth, Doyel admitted the question of whether or not Boeheim was returning next year didn't need to be asked first. (Boeheim also later apologized to Doyel.) That being said, this is not the first time Boeheim has had it out with a sportswriter - if you will recall, he called ESPN's Andy Katz an "idiot" and "disloyal" earlier this season. It turned out that Boeheim was angry at Katz for questioning him about the Bernie Fine investigation. Why is that relevant? I'm glad you asked!

Immediately after the Fine story broke, Doyel wrote that Boeheim should lose his job over comments he made about the accusers.

So, does Boeheim have it in for anyone who covered the Fine story? Or was he just pissed off after a devastating loss and unleashed his wr...

Jim Boeheim Unloads on Reporter Gregg Doyel Over Question About Returning Next Season (Video)

Perhaps Jim Boeheim was testy after a tough loss to Michigan or maybe he’s just sensitive about his age, but the Syracuse coach was not happy about a question regarding possible retirement.
CBSSports.com’s Gregg Doyel asked Boeheim “When do you think you’ll decide, announce, whatever whether or not you’re coming back next year or do you already know?” Boeheim was not happy with the question and said he wouldn’t answer it unless every coach had to answer it.
Doyel mentioned that the same question is posed to college players and that “they handle it better than you.” The 68-year-old coach responded with snark saying, “You ask a 19-year-old if he’s going to retire? If you’re going to say something smart at least be smart.”
Check out the back and forth between Boeheim and Doyel below.

Boeheim’s Bank Sheet: It’s Crazy the Coaches Who Top Syracuse’s Salary

As we prepare for Jim Boeheim’s fourth Final Four, it’s hard to believe where he ranks in compensation compared to peers. USA Today ran a list of all the coaches in this year’s NCAA tourney and their income. Where do you think The Per’fesser ranked? Top 5? Nope. Top 10? Uh uh. Top 15. Sorry.

Follow The Fizz on Twitter for the latest from Atlanta as D.A. covers the Final Four

Boeheim came in at 17th overall while pulling in $1.9 M per year from Syracuse. No one is shaking a can in front of the Salvation Army for JB, but to see some of his inferiors rank ahead of him is a joke.
Understandably, Coach K is the top dawg earning over $7 M a year. But let’s go down the rest of the coaches in front of Jim:

Coach K. No one can argue he’s the class of coaches with those titles and Final Fours (even if he has some head scratching early exits).
Pitino. Fine. He’s always got a contender, never loses in the Sweet 16. Could be looking at another title this year.
Self. Again, can’t argue. Has m...

Jim Boeheim hints at retirement

Rumors have been swirling about the prospects of Syracuse men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim retiring at season's end.On Thursday, a tweet sent out by the school's official Twitter account included a link to a report that suggested Boeheim was soon to retire. That tweet has since been deleted and the school offered an explanation by Friday morning. But the longtime Orange coach made some comments following his team's 61-39 loss at Georgetown Saturday that might stir up the retirement rumors once again.A reporter asked Boeheim if he would miss being in the Big East Conference during a post-game news conference. Syracuse is set to join the ACC after this school year is over."Well, you know, I'm pretty much ready to go play golf somewhere," Boeheim said. "If was 40 years old, I'd be real upset. I'm not 40 years old. That should be obvious, though."Boeheim then continued to discuss some of the other things about the job he would miss if he ...

Syracuse University Twitter account mistakenly shares link article about Jim Boeheim retiring

Syracuse had to do some damage control after a tweet sent from the university’s official Twitter account suggsted that basketball coach Jim Boeheim would be retiring. Here’s the tweet sent following Syracuse’s 78-57 home win over DePaul Wednesday that caused the confusion: The tweet links to a post on a Syracuse blog that was written by a Florida community college student, who says the longtime coach was asked by the school to retire. The tweet was later deleted, and the school moved quickly to clarify: #OrangeNation: Earlier tonight a tweet was mistakenly sent. Nothing in the tweet was true or accurate and we apologize for the confusion. — Syracuse University (@SyracuseU) March 7, 2013 Boeheim has been the school’s basketball coach since the 1976-77 season. He has won one national championship and reached three Final Fours. Syracuse’s last regular season game is Saturday at Georgetown.
Boeheim goes off on 'idiot' reporter

Syracuse head basketball coach Jim Boeheim has launched an astonishing assault against ESPN college basketball reporter Andy Katz Wednesday night. At Boeheim's press conference after the #6 Orange were upset by Connecticut, Katz asked the coach a question about the Syracuse-UConn series and Boeheim responded by saying he wasn't going to answer it. He also included these choice words about Katz recorded by WAER: "I'll answer anyone's question but yours because you're an idiot and really a disloyal person. And a few other things I can add, but I'm not gonna go there." Let me pick up mouth on the floor! That's an attack you will rarely ever see from a coach to a well-known national reporter... and seemingly out of the blue as well. Although Boeheim may still hold a grudge against ESPN and Katz for reporting that goes all the way back to the Bernie Fine case, it's more likely Katz's recent reporting on ineligible Orange player J...
